next years superbowl is in Jacksonville.....I was wondering, seeing as how my local team will have a good shot again next year....what is closer; Hilton Head or Disneyworld???....what would the driving distances be from each?....If I make a reservation for next year, what happens if I cancel the reservation 2 weeks out?

I think Jacksonville is closer to Disney. If you cancel 2 weeks out, your points will go into a "holding" account for 30 days. After that, you lose them.

Don't worry, the Pats will be there next year too. That way Tom Brady will only have to drive to Disney after he wins the Superbowl :)

If I cancel two weeks out could i make a reservation for the following summer if my use year is march????.....or do i need to make a ressie with those points within the 30 days fo a time before march?

You have to use those points you cancelled within 30 days. Your best bet is to book it 2 weeks before you go. You might have a better shot of just booking it then. It's not a very busy time of year and it's about 2 hours (I think) from Jacksonville. Call MS tomorrow and see if there is any availabilty for this weekend to give you an idea of how busy it is.

"Holding Account" points may be reserved 60 days or less before you want to travel. They cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the Use Year if not used.

Originally the "holding account" time frame was 30 days, but was changed to the present 60 a few years ago.

I, too, would try to make the reservation 2 weeks prior rather than deal with the uncertainty of the holding account. WDW would be a little closer, but HH would be within 3 hours of Jacksonville (and would most likely have no prblem with availability).

Enjoy!

Would you consider going even if your Pats don't make it? If so reserve it. Housing at the Super Bowl is very tough to find.

We went to the Super Bowl in New Orleans 2 yrs ago. We bought the tickets through a broker (I can give you his name if you PM me) many months ahead. Lodging and air are very difficult to find, and we booked in June, and still had to stay outside of the city. Of course, we would have had a much better time if YOUR Pats hadn't beat MY Steelers in the AFC Championship, but, despite the heartbreak, it was a great experience. We are also thinking of going next year and have considered going to WDW as well. Unless something drastically changes, I won't be wearing black and gold at that game!

"GO PATS"

Would't it be better watching the Super Bowl at the ESPN Club than it is here in the frozen Baystate. If the Pats made it next year or not I would still rather be "Home" than here.

Living in Jacksonville, I'm sure I could be persuaded to help in lodging for a felow DVC'er. Odds aren't that good that my team will be there.

yeah...we beat your jags up here in the snow a few weeks back...My season ticket partner booked a trip to disney the week of the AFC championship game (by accident)...and watched the game at ESPN. I called on the cell phone after each score...the only problem with the espn club is space. I was down there for the cleveland game in october, and had to line up at 11am just to get a seat, and the line was looooong!!!....but I am contemplating going regardless of the teams or tickets.

Mapquest does put Jacksonville at about midway. 171 miles from HHI and 158 miles from Lake Buena Vista. I think I'd stick with a WDW resort to be sure that the roads and weather are better.

I agree that you might want to just go ahead and plan a trip for this time period and then see whether the SuperBowl works out. I'm sure rooms will be at a premium as people combine SuperBowl and Disney.

You do face the one time when Use Year matters. If you cancel in January, you will still have to use those points by February 28 -- the end of the Use Year. You will be past your banking deadline and you also can't make non-DVC reservations during the last 60 days of your Use Year.
