I know this was discussed last year and would like a heads up on how Super Wal-marts "do" their hours since they are open 24 hours. How do they handle the BF merchandise? Is it "off limits" before the posted sale hours? Or can you go in, put it in your cart and check out anytime after the posted sale starts?

TIA!

At our store last year, they had the pallets out on the floor shrinked wrapped and they annouced it over the intercom when you could open it. I really enjoyed it b/c the doors were already open...we just had to find the stuff we wanted the most and stand next to it til they annouced to open the skids. Were heading there Friday. There is a little more on my list so I dont' know if we will get everything but I'm going for the most important first.

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the info! Super Wal-mart opened in our town last January, so this is my first experience with a store that's open 24 hours. I need to check out their ad more thoroughly to see what's on my list. :)

Our Walmart at the lake (where I do my Black Friday shopping) is a 24 hour store. They leave the pallet wrapped up until the sale starts. Then at the right time there is a store announcement and a worker unwraps the pallet. We just line up at the thing we want the most and wait until they unwrap them. It actually works pretty well.

EXCEPT...in our walmart the pallet can be ANYWHERE in the store... they never keep they near the department the SHOULD be near:headache:

At our Walmart, there is a line for the larger/more popular items (especially electronics). They have employees at the back of the grocery area with all the stuff. The line weaves through all of the grocery aisles. When it's your turn you tell them what you want, they put it all in your cart, and you're all set to do more shopping or head to the check out. It's nice because you can line up at any time, but you're inside a warm store and they put the items in your cart so no one is fighting for the item they want.

That "somewhere" would very likely be TENIA's Black Friday thread right here on the Budget Board. There's one post for the actual Walmart prices, and an earlier - but not much - post with the rumored sale items and where the items should be located.

You might want to check out how the 'lines' are forming at your SWM before actually deciding to brave it. I've heard many reports of broken bones, fist fights, etc because most ppl do the hand on type of line up. They have their hands ON the pallet the whole time and as soon as the employee starts to cut the plastic it's pretty much only the strongest survive! LOL

I'd never have the will to do it but if you are going to brave Walmart just be aware it can be very rough.

What about smaller things like the clothes or the $5 Barbies? Can I pput those in my cart early? I would assume only big and/or expensive things are on the wrapped pallets...:confused3

We have a super walmart near us, but they close down on Thanksgiving night and reopen on Friday morning and they are normally a 24 hour store.:confused3 Why would some stay open and some close?

Ours does that too (the shrink wrap and all), and it made everyone less grouchy and pushy!

Might be local zoning. If stores in your town/city/state are required to be closed on Thanksgiving (think Massachusetts :)), it's not unreasonable that, to avoid the scenario described above - the fighting/survival of the strongest - that stores required to close on/for the holiday would choose to open at the time designated for the Black Friday start chainwide.

Plus, it means the employees don't have to miss celebrating Thanksgiving with their families, as they might if they were required to start work at midnight.

BF at our Walmart is so crazy that I don't even go there. People are rude, pushy, cut in line and managers don't even do anything about it. A couple of years ago, the first year they had the real cheap laptops, we actually witnessed an EMPLOYEE hide one behind the counter. When we were told they were all gone, we asked about the one behind the counter and he told us, "sorry, that's mine". People were not happy! So I don't go to walmart on BF.

However, our Circuit City does BF wonderfully. People line up early (like the night before) and about 1-1/2 to 2 hours before the store opens, employees come out w/ vouchers. They start at the front of the line and work their way to the back. Say they have 15 of the discounted laptops for sale - they have 15 vouchers and so on. When the vouchers are gone, they are gone. If you want something, you HAVE to have one of the vouchers. Last year, we were about #30 in line, but by the time the vouchers got to us, the item we wanted was all sold out. It was really nice of them to do that, because we were still able to go to our next store (Target) and stand in line there.
