We are finally getting a super target near us ! I was their last night, as they were stocking shelves, and I was unimpressed with their prices. How do others who have both stores feel the prices compare walmart vs target? I was surprised that Target wasn't trying to compete with Walmart's prices these two stores are located with in 1/2 mile of each other!

I couldn't tell you that.

We have a Target & Walmart within a half-mile of each other, but they get very different customers. I don't go near the Walmart. Those people are scary in there!! :scared1:

I love my Target & will shop there no matter how cheap Walmarts prices ever go.

We have a Super Walmart and Super Target within 1/4 mile of each other. I prefer the Walmart for prices, much lower than Target.

I don't see why Walmart gets such a low opinion, I've never found it "scary". Its lackluster, somewhat dim inside, Target does have a nicer overall atmosphere, but I'd hardly call Walmart "scary". Unless, of course, you shop at 3 am, that's when all the weirdos come out!

Just IMO, I think Target overall is more expensive than Walmart.Especially for OTC medicines, you can't beat the Walmart Equate line. Much cheaper for things like cough syrup, tylenol, etc. They do have a stores own brand for OTC products at Target, but I found it not to be as extensive as Walmart's Equate and more expensive.

However, I refuse to use the bathrooms at Walmart. that's the scary part:scared1: go before you shop, I tell my kids, they're not using that filthy bathroom. Once we needed to do some shopping, all of had to use the bathroom, so I chose Target over Walmart, knowing I'd spend more at Target, but the clean restrooms was worth the price difference!

Oh, and I won't buy meat from Walmart. Too many bad experiences, their ground beef tastes like a string mop! Also, I saw something on tv about their meat, seems it comes from a processing plant I think in Iowa or Idaho:confused3 then they package it with dyes to look fresh. Well, I'm sure its legal or they wouldn't be doing it, but I still don't like the idea of it. I do like Target's meat, especially their roasts, a little more expensive but very good.

Walmart is better for clothes. Got some great sleeveless shirts for $6.47, wash up well, don't wrinkle or shrink, like the $30 shirts I boutght from JCP (and took back!). Also found some nice purses on sale at Walmart for ~ $5-$8.

The scariness factor depends on your area. We have a large percentage of low class people in our town and they all live at Walmart. It's like their night out or something.

There are filthy half naked children running around knocking down old ladies, and 250lb women in short shorts and belly shirts (to show off their navel rings) with their childrens names tatooed on their necks making out with the stock boy (their baby's daddy) etc. I am not kidding. It is human debri heaven.

I will pay more and go to Target just to avoid breathing the same air as these people. If that is not a problem in your area maybe you should stick with Walmart.

Target is more expensive but they have better clearance. I never buy clothes at Walmart because everything I've looked at there is garbage. Target stuff isn't high quality but it is good enough for a boy to play in and I could usually get pants on clearance for $3-4 when DS still wore kids sizes.

The trick to Target is NEVER pay full price. Also Targets schtick is that they're discount "trendy" so they have much more intresting home goods etc..Good luck.

I have always heard that Target doesn't want to compete with Wal-Mart. They are looking for a "higher class" customer so their overall prices are higher.
I don't know if thats true or not but I do know you can find a bazillion dirty butts at any hour of the day or night at Wal-Mart (Wal-MarK for the truly trashy).

I don't even compare SuperTarget to SuperWalmart. They aren't competing for the same shoppers.

SuperTarget has upscale "cafe/bistro" type foods, more organic, usually a Starbucks. SuperTarget is competing against your local upscale grocery store.

SuperWalmart is like the worst grocery store with the best prices.

The trick it to shop SuperTarget's sales and use their coupons too.

I love SuperTarget, they have TONS of samples too, LOL!!

Hey Heartsy! I'm in the Binghamton area as well and I am glad to see that Target is finally stocking the shelves! I was in there Friday and the coolers were just about empty!

Are you aware of the coupons on the Target.com site? They make some items fairly reasonable, if not downright cheap!

I'm not sure what we're getting is a true SuperTarget though. I didn't see a bakery, deli or produce section at all. :confused3

They are building a new Super Walmart about 1.5 miles from my home. However, I am a HUGE Target fan. unfortunately, we don't have a Super Target near us.

I doubt I'll frequent this Super Walmart much, but I'll probably give it a try when it opens. I'm more curious about the customers than the store itself.

We'll see.

We have both and walmart is a little lower BUT I am with some of you... It is worth the extra little bit to NOT shop at walmart :) It is funny, this is an secluded wealthy area. The avarage income in the zip code is 200K, yet this walmart draws a HUGE crowd from far away. There are probably way over 5 walmarts in a 10 mile area and yet they drive past all of those to come to ours! As far as walmarts go we have a really nice one, I still do go there when I need to buy certain things. I have been to other walmats in small towns and I have seen seriously nasty people. The big thing for me about walmart is that they have little customer service, if you need help you may be out of luck. At our target they are falling aver to help you and they actually know where things are in their store.

A few months ago we had our MTG go op over $1000 and I did shop at walmart a few times, now I am back at safeway or super Target (I do like ST the most). Timing is everything at walmart. If you shop there you will be less angry shopping if you shop early am and during the week. And if you need no help from the staff :)

We have Tarjay here but not Super Tarjay. I love Tarjay and never shop at Wal-Mart! I would be on :cloud9: if they decided to bring in a Super Tarjay!

I absolutely love super target and wish we had one here. The deals are still better than a typical grocery store, however they have a large amount of gourmet and organic foods also - you can find things there that you can't find anywhere else...and at a good price. Definitely use their coupons too. True, walmart is still cheaper on many things, but I prefer the more pleasant shopping experience of super target. Maybe it depends on where you live, but in our millions (ok, I exaggerate a little) of moves, target has always been the better store for us. Why can't we have super target here, why oh why??? Enjoy! :wizard:

While Walmart may be less expensive, their stores tend to be less organized, dirtier and more less well staffed. Their philosophy seems to be that their prices are lower so people won't care about the other stuff and it does seem to work for them. I also have concerns about some of Walmart's business practices and the strong arm tactics they use with some of their vendors. It doesn't completely stop me from shopping at Walmart, especially with a brand new store so close to home but in most cases I will still take the longer trip to Target.

OTOH, Target/SuperTarget stores tend to be very well organized, well stocked, clean and staffed by friendly and helpful associates. Things cost a little bit more but the overall shopping experience definitely makes it worth the tiny bit extra that I'll spend there. And if you learn the art of the "endcap sweep" you can get amazing values. :)

The closest target to me is in between a regular target and a super target. It has an expanded grocery section, but not the same as a super target with the deli, produce, bakery, etc.

We do also have a super target abot 35 minutes from me. I get there on occasion. The super walmart nearest me is actually clean and organized, I like going in there.

If the only game in town is a Walmart, then everyone shops there and it usually isn't too bad. When you get both a Superwalmart and a Super Target, then the split happens and the difference in clientele is more noticible.

when our Super Target opened, they interviewed the manager in the paper, and one of the question's was about being head to head with SuperWalmart. The quote was something about how SuperTarget goes after a different demographic and there would be plenty of business for both stores. Both are going strong. I shop Walmart 3-4 times a year and always come out of there vowing never to go back. I'm a devoted Super Target shopper!

Our Target doesn't have to compete with Walmart on pricing because they bring in people just by being clean and organized. I'll pay more at Target in a heartbeat rather than shop at Walmart. Don't get me started on the types of people I see in our Walmart vs. Target.

I will not spend my money at a Walmart!!! I do not consider Walmart (the big box store) good for America. When I was a young we had a variety of stores in our small town and in the other small towns surrounding us. "Walmart" came in, offered "sucker prices" (low prices on certain crowd drawing items) and basically, ran all the other stores out of business - bad karma. If you keep a total of your spending (Walmart vs other stores), you will find out that your overall spending is not less at Walmart - only the "sale" items are cheaper. If you watch your newspapers/websites for specials or coupons, you can save money almost anywhere. I shop Target, Macy's, etc and save "mega-bucks" - because I buy off-season or from the clearance items. By the way, I too agree that Walmart tends to be dirty, unorganized and attracts people who make me wish I had gone elsewhere.

I shop at both depending on coupons prices and what I"m looking for. Walmart is just like every place else. Some stores are better and some are worse. The old CEO or Target now works at Walmart. If you look at their newer stores you will find a nicer brighter cleaner store with employees in tan pants and navy shirts :lmao: They are trying to upscale thier image. I have no problem shopping at either place. Target has better produce and meat, Walmart has better prices on staples and cleaning products, and health and beauty.

I'm not wasting money just so I can shop in a store for it's status. I judge each store on it's own merits. That doesn't include the bathrooms or whoever else is shopping there. I base it on price, my schedule for the day (what I'm close to), and if I'm looking for a particular item. So I shop at both.

Personally I've seen some skanky targets and some impressive walmarts. I only avoid stores if I think I'm going to be in physical danger. (One regular target and superwalmart are in a really bad neighboorhood and even if I'm near it and looking at deals I don't go to them.)

The Super Target in my suburb is great but about 8 miles away is a Supertarget that borders a very high dollar neighboorhood and the prices are worse (higher on same products as mine) the clearence is non existant and it may be the cleanest store in town but its not somewhere I shop regulary.
Across the steet from the high dollar STarget is a Super Walmart, it's older and more run down, while about 3 miles from my house is a new (built with in a year) store. The one by my house is the more expensive. The opposite of the Targets.

Amen! I feel the exact same way. Super Wal-Mart happens to be closer to my house and more convenient for me than Target. It's also in a very affluent town, so the clientelle isn't too bad (although it's obvious on certain days that many of them travel a good distance just to shop at our Wal-Mart). I just know when to shop to avoid the crowds. Why would I pay more for the exact same item and have to drive farther away just to go to Target? Not worth it IMO - but que sera sera.

The Top Ten ways Wal Mart is like a public restroom:
10) The smell
9) They're always out of toilet paper when you need it the most.
8) There's always a puddle on the floor
7) You really don't want to go in there, but some times you just have to.
6) When you enter, you tell your kids: "Don't touch anything!"
5) The floor looks like it hasn't been cleaned since Reagan was in office
4) Public restroom: You enter with too much crap...
Wal Mart: You leave with too much crap.
3) Did I mention the smell?
2) When you're in there, it's best to keep your eyes looking straight ahead, rather than looking side to side.
1) The old guy at the door who smiles and says "Hi" gives you the creeps!

Actually, I totally judge a business by how it keeps its restroom!! If they can't manage a restroom I don't want to know the level of cleaniness in the bakery, the deli, the meat department.

I'm not talking about crazy busy times, I've been in a Target when their bathrooms were dirty (during the crazy weekends before the holidays) but overall I can count on clean stores and restrooms, lol!
