Super Target vs Super Walmart

Well, we had just had a SuperTarget open here. Thought I would give it a try to buy my nephew's birthday present. Asked a worker who was in toys if they had any Thomas the Train tables.

"I don't know. I guess it would be somewhere in toys."

Really? No kidding!

I'm sorry, but if that's the level of customer service when it's brand new and trying to attract customers, there's no way I'm shopping there in a year or two when it's established.

Our closest Wally World is 30 minutes away. The closest Target is over an hour. If I have time, I choose Target hands down. NO comparison as far as selection, reliability of items being in stock, and cleanliness.

Unfortunately many times I am in a big hurry, and shop at Walmart. Lately though I have started going to the "upscale" grocery store instead. Paying the higher price is worth it, IMO to avoid the "low end" shoppers.

Different strokes for different folks. :)

We live within 2 minutes of both. ST is closer but even before we moved, I'd drive the extra 5 minutes from our old place to Target. The checkouts at SW are always horrendous imo. I have issues with some of SW business practices and on a personal note, don't like the store layout. If I'm buying groceries, I also usually need dog food & toiletries. Our SW is laid out so you have to schlep to the entire other side of the store for those items. I don't have the time or energy for that kind of work out just to get groceries, then the walk back over to the other side just to get back to the car!

Target is clean, friendly and the produce & sales are great!

I guess I was wrong i as someone from my area pointed out it is not a Super Target but one that carried most groceries:mad: . I was really hoping for an alternative to Walmart. I guess I would have to agree I would shop any wear the prices were best and I felt the safe. Our Walmart is OK so as is are Target as far as cleanliness goes ( I try not to use public bathroom unless it a dire emergency anyway); you do tend to see some weirdos at Walmart but this is Upstate NY their are lots of them here! I wish this new Target would give Walmart a run I would switch their in a heart beat because the Super Walmart is always so busy!

I live in a small town with a superwalmart in it. There's a target about 25 min. away near my job. They sell some food there but it's not a true supertarget. I love the superwalmart near me and shop there all the time. I go to target once in a while but prefer walmart for most things. There are many other superwalmarts anywhere from 25-45 minutes away and although I do not always agree with some of the other customers' clothing choices, child raising choices, random piercing, etc I sure am not going to judge them or decide I'm better then someone and not go onto those stores.

Wow this post saddens me by how stuck some people seem to be, they won't shop at Wal-mart do the "low end " shoppers

America is paying a very high price for those low prices you like at Walmart.

Walmart is one of the sleaziest companies around for how they treat their workers, and what they do to communities.

That's why we don't shop there.

The way I see it, I'm on a budget and our SW has the best prices on what I nee, then that's where I'm going.

There are area's in Canada where the cities have actually faught legally to keep Walmart out of thier towns. Guelph, ON is one of them, its a small university town with a great downtown with lots and lots of small shops. While it has a Zellers ( Canada's attempt at Target and I say attempt because its not that great) is there, Walmart was faught tooth and nail.

We try not to go to Walmart if we can. While the ones in Canada are faaar cleaner than any US one I have ever been to, we would rather not give them our money. We just drove through the states and when we stopped and needed supplies, we would actually look for Target's and go there if we can.

We went to Super Target in Grand Forks, ND. It was clean and had a starbucks and organic food. The Superwalmart ( We went there for something for my sister) was poorly lit and the floors were dirty and sticky. Complete and total opposites

While I agree that Walmart is not necessarily good for our economy one of my friends, whom is now my kids middle school English teacher, worked at the very SW I am speaking of she said they encouraged her, practically begged her to take management positions while she worked their. She said their was opportunites for you to further your career with Walmart and they pay for management wasn't bad. She didn't get into specifics but I was blown away when she told me that! Obviously my friend had more education than most low level employees but still I believe that their are jobs for every education and skill level. I myself shop their for two reasons: convenience and cost. I have 4 of my own kids, 7 daycare kids to feed three meals and snacks a day so budget is my top priority !

I think there is only one Walmart in the city of Chicago and many Targets. So I am a Target shopper.

But I do not shop exclusively on price - I also look at the company, reputation, how it treats employees, etc. So I would never shop Walmart.

I do not shop Walmart for many reasons - the shoppers, I believe they have taken magazines off the shelves (too risque), will not carry certain movies or music.

When traveling, I admit to going in to one or two when necesssary, but I have not found them to be pleasant experiences.

Did you know that Target has the exact same policy as far as wages, insurance and benefits as Walmart.

I believe it was MSNBC who did the story and the Wall Street Journal who wrote the article. It was in Yahoo news so you might be able to search their news for the story. Target looks pretty on the outside but they absolutly are the same as Walmart as far as internal policy.

Walmart as the largest retailer tends to get the brunt of the exposure.

And personally I've worked at both stores (target as an undergraduate and walmart during my grad school) they treat you the same at both. The only thing I can tell you the difference is that Walmart actually gives employees cash rewards if your store comes in under a certain percentage for shrinkage and loss, they also give you an extra percentage off at christmas that can be used on anything in the store. Target treated you like an idiot and never offered any incentives, promotions or anything good to their employees.

we don't have a Super Target close but there is a SWM....I have found though their grocery prices on many items are higher than Publix, so it really isn't worth it to me.

I think it depends on where you live. The Walmart closest to our home is clean, well-lit, organized, and has clean bathrooms. It also has a family bathroom which I appreciate.

I buy "Great Value" brand everything, and our walmart has a better selection of baby stuff than our Target IMHO. I like shopping at walmart because I can get everything in one stop and save money (and use that savings to pay off debt) and I don't have to spend time clipping coupons (I can use that time to DIS instead :surfweb: ). :)

Plus, I have found lots of cute, cheap, Disney stuff at walmart over the years--purses, bags, tee shirts, watches, and other misc. stuff. :earsboy:

Then why does every Walmart store look like a total fiasco, yet every Target look department store worthy?

They are definitely doing SOMETHING different...

No hits on the stories you mention....

Yes, give the Target a second chance. I wish that we would have a super Target also. I have 2 Target stores within 15 minutes of my house. The one is a regular Target and the new Target has a larger grocery and very small freezer and refrigerated section. The prices are always lower than the local grocery store. I go to Target first and buy everything that is not on sell at the grocery store. Try going to their web site and checking out the coupons. You will be suprised at how much you can save if the item is on sale and you have a web coupon. I typically save atleast half. :cool1:
You can't get savings like that at Walmart. But if you are just going price for price and no coupons than Walmart is cheaper.

I do 90% of my grocery shopping at Super Wal-Mart. Why? Because I save a ton of $$ and it is only a mile away. One day I had decided I was not going to bear the Sunday afternoon parking lot hassles and shopping lines at Wal-Mart so I headed over to Albertson's. When I checked out, my eyes about popped out of my head. My bill for the same groceries was over 35% higher!

So, I swallow my pride and go to Wal-Mart every week. That extra $40 a week savings to me is worth it. I save over $2000 a year by shopping at Super Wal-Mart (not for clothes though), which could be put towards a Disney Vacation. I went this morning at 7:30am after my jog at the high school track across the street. It was empty of people, clean, (I had to use the restroom and it was really clean), and overall really nice. Also, Wal-Mart will price match all competitor ads.

I try to do my shopping during off times to avoid the overcrowding and dirt that collects during the day. We don't have Publix or any other discounted grocery stores here. They are all pretty expensive.

We have a new Super Target opening here at the end of the month. It's an extra 5-10 minutes drive from the Super Wal-Mart, but I'll definitely shop there over Wal-Mart any day and pay the slightly higher prices. Our Wal-Mart always been disorganized, but a month ago they started "re-modeling", apparently to try to compete w/ the new ST and now it takes new meaning to disorganization. Everytime I go in there the entire layout of the store has changed, even if it's just been a couple days. Super Wal-Mart has lost what little business I was giving them over that.

Wal Mart is cleaned by a seperate entity. They have a few people on each shift to do spills and such but most of the cleaning is done by an outside company (deli and snack bar are done by the employees in that department).

I think they don't care as much, but I'm talking about benefits and hiring practices not cleaning.
