We are travelling with a 2 year old and 2-5year olds. Wondering if the 5 year old need to be secured in their booster seats when travelling. Normal in Canada, they are all three in their 5 point harness car seats. What are Califiornia laws regarding car seats.

We are definitely bringing our car seat for dd2, should we bring the boosters for dd1 and ds?

Thanks for any input!

If you are taking Super Shuttle which uses shuttle vans you will need childseats for both.

If you are taking, Grayline's Disneyland Resort Express, they use buses and child seats are not required.

We're taking the Super Shuttle from Hojo to LAX and Gray Line Tours from San Diego to Lego Land and from HoJo to Universal Studios.

Then for the 5yo you will need a childseat for the airport trips. Unless the child is small a booster seat is probably fine rather than a harness style child seat.

For the coach transportation, there are no seatbelts at all. So it's not that carseats aren't required, it's that they aren't allowed.

Be careful where you put the seats on the SuperShuttle van. Can't use the ones with the belts that come from the door, for example.

I'd use whatever seats you normally use. If the 5 year old is in the harness seat (and mine was in a harness until he outgrew it by height in his Nautilus) just use it. Switching things up during vacation isn't always the best idea.

Have you considered renting a car, though? That's a lot of time on the road on someone else's schedule.

We took the Disneyland Express on our most recent trip to save a bit of money and avoid hauling a car seat around, and it was our NEVER AGAIN experience for the trip. In fact, our only bad experience. Our flight arrived at 9:10 am so we had to wait 35 minutes for the bus to pick us up at the airport (that was expected - we knew that it only left every hour at the time that we arrived) and then it left 15 minutes late because another passenger had forgotten one of their suitcases. :confused3 And then we were the last stop on the bus route (staying at the Carousel Inn across Harbor from the park entrance) so it was almost NOON before we got dropped off at our hotel. Yup, that's almost 3 hours from when the flight landed until when we arrived. And with a cranky 16 month old who can't sit still? After he's already been "patient" for a 2.5 hour flight? Pure torture. The poor kid was in hysterics by the time we arrived.

We will always rent a car from now on.

Thanks for the info.

I think we will bring our regular car seat and 2 booster seats. Much better option then trying to carry three car seats and our luggage. we already paid for all ground transportation, so there's no sense in changing it now. I think they will only be used to/from airports. Better be safe than sorry.

Adding to that, the middle seats are typically just lap belts (no shoulder belt), so OP wouldn't be able to use boosters in those positions.
