Super Quick Disney Dollar Question

Thanks- I will be purchasing copious amounts of gift cards online with my 4% upromise savings and then going to TDS to buy Disney Dollars for my vacation. :D:D :D

The gift card I had said that Disney$ were excleded. It was in the small print on the back. I'd call just to make sure.

You can definitely buy Disney Dollars with a gift card. We did it just yesterday and back in May too.

One warning if you're going to buy large amounts of Disney Dollars at the Disney Store: They don't carry that much and they can only sell you about $100-$250 max at one time. If you have more than that you're buying at one time, call ahead to the Disney Store and they will order it for you. This will typically be about 3 weeks for them to get the order in.

This happened to us back in May. We wanted to purchase $1000 worth of DDs and they had to order them from the corporate office. Took about 3 weeks then they called us and we picked them up. OH.. and they can only do 4 gift card transactions at a time.

When I wanted to buy $1000 of Disney Dollars at a local DS, they said the max allowed was $500 a day per corporate policy. They seemed to have a lot more than that in the safe. I was under the impression you could not use gift cards to buy Disney $. It's starting to sound like every store makes up their own rules.

Some stores are confused, because when we first went to the gift card system (vs, the old paper gift certificates) Disney$ WERE excluded, as were passes. Now, the policy has been adapted to allow the purchase of both these items with Disney gift cards. The merchandise credits, that guests receive for returns with no receipt, and for other situations (not having same credit card used for purchase, etc) can only be used for merchandise.

It also is complicated by the fact that we don't often HAVE guests wanting to buy Disney$ with gift cards........... it is pretty rare. And with the cast turnover what it is, there can be some confusion.

It also is possible the gift cards you are speaking of, UPromise, have an exclusion on them for Disney$.

I think it is store to store policy. Some will let you and other will not. Here in St. Louis, I was able to buy Disney dollars using a Disney gift card. So like so many others have written I would call around to local stores and see which ones will let you use the gift card.

I spoke to the mgr at my Disney Store and she said no problem buying DD with Gift cards but can only buy $500 per day. If the gift cards say Disney Dollars excluded I think I better not risk buying all those TDS gift cards. I will have to mull this over.

DH did this in May. He went and bought the gift cards online to get the reward points, then turned around and bought the DDs with the gift card.

We've been doing this since November 03, and we're doing this again for our Sept trip. Actually, we've gone and ordered $1000 worth again and they said it'll take 3-4 weeks to get it.

If this does work (and I'm not sure either since I was turned down by my Disney store last April), then another alternative to upromise rewards is fatwallet (fatwallet.com). They give a 4.4% rebate (called fatcash) on disneystore.com purchases, plus it is easier to get the rebates on fatwallet, they pay via paypal.
