Got an e-mail yesterday from Spirit announcing a 24 hour sale which would have saved me over $230 for my family. Booked my flight May 3rd. They will not let me change or even give me a credit toward future airfare. Is this common? I know the regular carriers in the past have given me a credit for the difference. They told me that they would have to charge me $60 per person to change~That would have eaten up the entire discount. I told them I felt penalized for booking with them ahead. Talked to several supervisors, went round and round with them but to no avail.:( I'll never book with Spirit again.

I know NWA will charge you $60 per ticket, be it for days, prices, changing departure days. I think Airtran charges unless it's a business class seat.

I think Southwest maybe the only one that doesn't charge for changes.

I've always gotten a credit from AirTran for the difference if the fare drops (less a $5 pp phone charge). That's if the fare reduction is the ONLY change, though. Changes to times, dates, etc. are a $60 change fee.

Depends on the airline, depends on the type of airfare- also something worth noting before you buy. I usually buy the cheapest...aka nonrefundable nontransferable ticket. I know going in that if I need to make a change it is going to cost me, regardless if the price went down or up.

This was not a change in any other way then the price, how can they charge me $60 for a change? I wish they have never sent me the darn e-mail, I feel so cheated now.

Why on earth would you feel cheated? You bought tickets with lots of restrictions. It's your responsibility to read the airline policy and any fare rules associated with your purchase BEFORE you buy.

They can charge you the $60 fee because that's what you agreed to when you clicked 'buy' on May 3rd. If you're not comfortable with the restrictions on this particular airline and fare, pick a new carrier next time you fly.

I think it's unreasonable to feel "super pissed" or cheated -- By booking, they are under no obligation to give you a credit if the price goes down. At the same time, they can't charge you more after you book.

Buying a ticket is always gamble. It might go up, it might go down...

It has been that way for years and especially on the big name airlines. The only one who was known to do this was Southwest. I don't know why you are bad mouthing Spirit when they all do this.

Yeah, you guys are right. I shouldn't feel cheated. Spirit is awesome. So glad I'm overpaying. How unreasonable of me to want a lower price like others will receive. Thanks for the support folks. What do you have stock in Spirit or something?

It's not just Spirit, most airlines charge you for changing your ticket if the price goes down. The only when I know off off hand that doesn't charge is SWA.

It's like anything you purchase, eventually the price may go down. We bought a new tv last month, it's now $500 less than we paid. That's life

No I don't and I have never flown Spirit either, but you should read the ticket rules before you buy( I think the only time NWA won't charge you if you change flights because of weather(ie big snowstorm at DTW or tropical stuff at MCO). NWA has a section where you can get your ticket rules and you have to click"Yes I have read and understand the ticket rules" before they let you pay. Sorry I don't know if Spirit has that disclaimer.

In this case, you would bring your receipt in to the store and ask for a price adjustment~it really is that simple. The store will give you the difference or at least give you a store credit.

That's not always the case.

That's not always the case.

Most of the big name stores will honor their sale price within a reasonable amount of time and you should at least try to get them to honor it~especially when you're talking about that kind of money.

And then if you get burned, you feel upset about it and vent, right?!

You don't have to be sarcastic about it... :sad2:

Where on Spirit's website does it say you get credit for if they lower the price? It's not our fault you didn't read the terms and conditions!!!

No, not unless they weren't following ther own policy.

The point I am making with my sarcasm is that it does not feel good to know that I am paying more for a flight then the people sitting in front of me and behind me on the same flight. I'm not saying anything about the fact that it was listed somewhere and I didn't read it, that's beside the point. I don't fly that often and didn't realize the policies have changed. I think the policy sucks and it's just not good business. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it~so there! :rotfl:

For Pete's sakes everyone, she's just venting here, let her VENT away!! I completely feel for you, I know, it totally sucks. You're right, if you see that something went on sale at a store, you simply bring back your receipt and you get the difference. It stinks that airlines don't do the same. So you go ahead and scream all you want, I'm right there with ya.:)

Ooh... Can I vent too? I want to go back to the gas station with my receipt from last week because it's 10 cents less this week!!! I demand a refund!!!! :rotfl2:
