Good morning to the winning team!!! LOL

I decided this was a great way for anyone new to get to know everyone. I had the great pleasure of meeting Kristi1357, MickeyHead, Pungodingy and Cruella de Mom at the half this year. Anyone considering marathon weekend next year, please do not leave yourself out of the Pop meeting on Friday, it is a GREAT way to put faces to all these names and meet some awesome people!!

I live in the beautiful State of Maine in the central portion in a little town with about 3500 people in it. We have 120 acres where we XC ski, horseback ride, play on 4-wheelers, you name it. My DH (Mike) works for himself hauling logs to mills this time of year and creating driveways, digging septics, digging foundations the rest of the year. I have 2 kiddos, Shelby-13 who is a gymnast, softball pitcher, field hockey goalie and anything else she can thing of and David-6 who is as active as his mom but seems to want a motor involved somehow!!! I am a medical transcriptionist for 2 local hospitals and work at home (hence being on the computer all morning). I started running about 3 years ago because I was tired of not feeling good anymore. I used to be a competitive body builder but got caught up in the kiddom of it all and lost my chi. My MIL (66) is a runner and got me going again. I did my first race (5K) in October of 2006 and have not stopped yet. I am a goal-setter however, so this game is exactly what I need. Someone/something has to keep me going!!!

So, how about everyone else......

Thanks for starting this bio thread Lisa!

Okay team, my name is Beth (hence the name Creativebeth!) and I am from PA. I am a wound, ostomy, continence nurse at a hospital and I work with PaDisneyFan (Nancy). I am married with two boys Adam and Alex. Adam is 11 years old and currently into basketball (baseball to come) and Alex too is playing basketball and he is 9 years old.

I had the boys 20 months apart, and spent most of my 30's way overweight. I spent time on a low carb diet and lost 70 pounds. I started walking on the treadmill the first 6 months on the diet, and then started running after that.

My sister talked me into running a 1/2 marathon in 2006 (Lehigh Valley) and I haven't looked back since! I have run 6 1/2 marathons with a PR 2:24:25 and I finished my first marathon in Toronto Sept 2007.

The marathon was great, but I put on 25 pounds during training, so I am in the process of losing that and back on my low carb diet.

I am training for my 3rd Lehigh Valley 1/2 marathon in April. I am logging about 25 miles a week right now.

Looking forward to 'meeting' the rest of the team!

Beth

Hi Everyone

My name is Cecilia and I am a SAHM to 3 active kids. In my free time I "work" as a beta tester testing computer games. Its sounds fun but it usually involves playing the same game over and over again to record glitches. My two girls (Charley,11 and Elle,9) play fastpitch softball and my son (James,7) is into baseball and football.

My husand, Lawson, is an accountant for an international mining company and works insane hours. He is also a triathlete. After years of watching on the sidelines and resenting the women athletes, I finally made up my mind to get in shape.

I started running on January 1,2003. I ran one mile in 14 minutes. Since then I have run numerous 5 & 10Ks, 6 half marathons and 2 full marathons. I am planning on 3 half marathons this spring and one full in the fall. I am also signed up to run Goofy in 2009. I have to get it all in this year, because next year we have a huge trip to Europe that might eat all my race budget and time.

This a picture from this years full marathon. I am the one with no hat.

Great idea!

I live in windy & cold & snowy CO, but attempting a move to NM. I'm a SAHM that homeschools 3 kids, 2 teens & 1 wannabe (12 DD). My DH is a general contractor.

I'm a walker that has consistantly walked for 3 years in May. I decided that I wanted to get "healthy for life" and haven't looked back. Once I started doing races, I haven't had any motivation issues like in the past to keep training.

Although I've tried R/W intervals, I have decided I'm a walker that needs to stay just walking. So I'll help out with the hours for sure. I average about a 13:30 mile when outside. Most of my training has to be indoors on a TM because of the weather here.

My family has expressed interest in doing a 5k with me at Disney, I must be rubbing off on them.

I love the miles game. There are times when I give myself a break by stopping before my goal distance. This is the push I need to keep myself going!

I'm looking forward to visiting with you all & working hard on racking up those miles!

I guess I'm next. Actually, I'll be posting for two of us. :goodvibes Sorry, this may be long.

My name is Susie and I am from the great state of Arkansas! I am currently a computer and information science instructor at a local college. I am married to a fellow teammate - Steve aka nukeman. I doubt he'll post much but I'll help keep track of his mileage and hours.

I've never been the athletic type until recently and if you would have told me two years ago that I would complete a marathon two weeks ago, I would have said you were crazy.

I've gone from being a very overweight couch potato in Aug. 2006 to walking/running in my first half at WDW in 2007. I never ran in my life until I started training. The half just about killed me but being on a finisher’s high, I signed up for the WDW marathon for 2008 within a week after getting home from the half. WHAT WAS I THINKING? I could barely walk after the half. Oh, yeah – it was all about the new, SPECIAL medal.

Five half marathons later, I completed the WDW marathon in Jan., 2008. I still have to look at that medal every now and then to make sure it wasn't a dream. The training had its ups and downs but I did it. I will say, though, that getting the medal for the half was a little more special. It was the first time that I could begin to think of myself as an athlete. :goodvibes

Now for Steve....

Steve is a mechanical engineer at a local nuclear plant - hence the name, nukeman. When he has time, he loves to ride his bike for exercise. It's a little too cold for that now so he walks and works out at the gym, for now.

Steve has two bulging discs in his lower back. Running is out of the question for him. Due to his back problems, walking was becoming a chore...until recently. Luckily, biking is not a problem for him. One of his greatest achievements was completing a century ride - 100 miles at the Hotter 'n Hell bike ride in Texas this past August.

He accompanied me to the 2007 half and it was during this time that he thought about going for the half in 2008. We didn't think he could do it because of his back problems but with some strength training and more walking, his back problems started getting better and he ended up completing the half in 2:58 - pure walking. I have to run some to keep up with him.

Next up: I'm going to stick to halfs this year. I want to lose more weight, get in better shape and get faster. I can do a half with a 13.5 - 14 minute pace now (W3/R1) - and that's pushing it. If all goes well this year, I MIGHT consider doing the Goofy for 2010.

For Steve, he'll stick to halfs for now but may eventually do a full in 2009 or 2010. Just a word of warning, Steve will be involved in 2 major outages with his job this year. That means that there will be periods where he won't be able to exercise as he will be required to work a lot of overtime. Hopefully, this won't drag the team down as he should be able to make up for it when summer comes and he can ride his bike.

You are all so inspirational...group hug :grouphug: I think with all this inspiration and motivation, we should have no problem ROYALLY KICKING SOME SERIOUS BOOTY!!!:yay:

Ok, I am not very good at this, but here goes!
I will also speak for Chad since I am not sure he'll come here to do his own part.

We are both 36 and live in southern NH, just over the MA border. We both commute to Boston & work for the NBC affiliate here. Chad works in Master Control and I do graphics for the morning news. (and no, we did not meet there - just ended up there!) We've been married 8 years and have a 4 year old named Zachary.

Chad had always said he wanted to run a marathon someday. He finally decided to do it (2002) for his 30th birthday. Since we are Disney Freaks, it was the WDW marathon and since then he's been hooked. Chad did the inaugural Goofy and has now finished all 3 Goofys, signed up for next year as well.

I, on the other hand, have never been athletic. I would always be there at the marathon to cheer for Chad, and think 'I could do this.' Then that moment was gone. I always blamed my asthms, bad knees, etc. Finally in 2006, I had decided I was sick of being at a plateau at Weight Watchers and I needed something to kick me in the butt to exercise. That, and my Mom of all people, had just completed her first half with Chad at WDW! Geez - if Mom can start doing this now, I certainly have no excuse. Along came the Minnie 15k that year. Mom & I decided to do it. Since then, I have been hooked. And without a race, or "threat," I don't exercise. So, I have to keep racing! :rotfl:

The picture of me & Zack is a little old, but it's what I have in photobucket already! :rotfl:

Hi Everyone!

My name is Laurie. I am 32 years old, and I live in Northern NJ, just about 10 min. outside of NYC. I teach physical education to grades K-3. In addition to my teaching job, I run an afterschool program 2 days a week, I am a track and field official in New York State, and I am actively involved in the New York State Association for Health and Physical Education. Yes, I am a very busy woman!!

In my spare time, I enjoying running and playing ice hockey. Right now, I am the goalie on a men's league team. Yes, I am the only female..but it is fun! I have played sports and been pretty athletic my whole life, playing basketball, and running track and cross country in high school. After HS, I stopped running, but I always told myself I wanted to run a marathon. Finally, last January I took the plunge and I signed up for the WDW marathon. Along the way last year, I ran a half marathon, and a couple of shorter races. I can definetely say I am hooked on running!!

This year, my plan is to run the New Jersey Marathon in May, then either the NYC marathon or the Philly Marathon in November. Unfortunately, I will not be going down to WDW in 2009, because, I am hoping I will be planning my wedding!!! My DBF and I hopefully will be getting engaged in the next month or two, and I will then not be able to afford going to WDW next Jan.

Can't wait for the challenge...we are going to do AWESOME!!! Just so you know, I am always training, I just don't check in on a daily basis, but rest assured I will be putting a lot miles in this year with the races I have planned.

Hey princessrunner, I missed where to get the smaller clippie for the Super Goofs. Thanks!

Stacey: Here you go:

It is so nice to hear from everyone who has posted. I have to say, I feel slow and way less busy than the rest of you which means, I should NEVER have an excuse to miss a workout.

Laurie: My DD-13 is a field hockey goalie and they are in heavy recruiting for the ice hockey team here (girls) for her to cross over there. We may have to call on you for some pointers!!!!! BTW, you remind me of my MIL, now 66, who taught PE forever at the college level, opened the Health and Fitness Center on campus and coached gymnastics, volleyball and various other activities. She is still going strong and running 2-3 times a week!!!

Kristi: Awesome pics!!!

This is our team listing just in case anyone missed out on anything. We are still needing bios from Pungodingy (Angie), lllovell, SAP1227 and DH. So far, reading the bios, I think we stand to give everyone a run for their money as we have some very dedicated people who put in lots and lots of miles and hours!!! Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Just 2 more days until the start of the game....

I am pretty sure I am going to have to quit my job to keep up with all the posting (ummm, and exercising) around here!

Here are our Bios (mostly a repost from the Bio/Pic sticky thread)

Hi! I'm Christy (just turned 30) and a mostly SAHM to 2 boys (Braden 6 and Brennen 4 Today). I do work part time at a local gym in the childcare area--I get to bring the boys with me and I get a family membership for free, so it is really a win win for us! I am also homeschooling Braden this year for K, which is taking up a lot of my time!

I have never been a runner or even all that athletic, but I was posting on the WISH board in 2004 for losing (baby) weight and saw everyone deciding to do the 1/2 Marathon and I wanted to join. It was then that I ran a mile for the first time EVER! My DH (Steve) joined me in walking the 2007 Half and then ran his first full this year.

Steve is 31 and is a Firefighter/Paramedic. He is more of a natural athlete, playing soccer and running cross country in High School. Where I stuggle to run, it is really easy for him to go out and run 10 miles. I am doing Half at Disney next year and Steve is trying to decide (quickly!!) if he wants to go Goofy.

Here are a couple of pics of us!

This is the boys last year, but Steve still looks pretty much the same.

Well first of all party: :bday: party: to Brennan!!! YAY!!

Okay, here are some of the rules of engagement in case you are not keeping up on the other thread:
1. If you are going on vacation or injured, you have to let either myself or Stacey know so we don't think you just dropped off the planet. If you are going to be away/not exercising/out of commission for an extended period, you will be replaced by a sub until you are back.
2. If you don't post for a month and don't give the captain a good reason or obtain an excuse from your mother :lmao: you will be replaced.
3. Weeks are going to run from Friday to Friday. Stacey, I am going to need your help here. I will be on the computer early Sunday a.m. for work but I really don't get on during the weekends as I am busy, busy, busy. We will need to total up the week and post it in the main thread in order to obtain our due harrassment from the other teams and/or encourage us to persevere in our training.

Anything else that comes up, I will interrupt your wonderful day to post, otherwise, have a terrifically awesome wonderful day!!!!!!!!

Okay, so I fibbed. I guess it does not matter what our week is as long as we do a monthly total which I can do no problem. Whew, off the hook again Stacey!!!

Anyone who only wants to post their miles/hours on a weekly basis, please feel free to do so, just maybe give me a heads up that you are doing this. Also, if the end of the month is mid-week, just to inconvenience you weekly posters, I will need your hours/miles by that date (end of the month) so we can post an accurate total.

HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!!!

Lisa, how would you prefer to get our numbers?? I want to do what will be easiest for you!!

Christy: On Friday (2/1) early a.m. (cuz that's when I am up and on the computer) I will start a thread titled SUPER GOOFS TEAM CHALLENGE and post an inspirational quote for everyone and put it down like this:

MILES TOTAL: 0
HOURS TOTAL: 0

At the end of the day (or week if you prefer) you add your miles and hours to the totals that are there. Now add correctly children, mama dunno math that well. Hey, I am a heck of a typist, just don't ask me to add.

Anyway, it will run kind of like the miles thread that we had going earlier ran. At the end of the week (if we chose to post those on the combined thread) I will post those totals and/or I will tally the monthly totals and keep track of those too so we have an accurate amount on 12/31, you know, when we take home the big prize for being THE BEST OF THE BEST!!

Holy mother of posts that disappear!!! Argh!

Hi everyone! I am Laura, married with 3 young children and 39. I was born and have lived my entire life around the Atlanta area. My children are a boy who is almost 8, another boy who is 6 today :cheer2: and a little princess who is 2. (and any of you with children know that might change to a little devil who is 2 at any given moment :lmao: )

Hubby sells HVAC parts to the guys that would come to your house to fix your heating and air. I do bookkeeping for real estate companies that building and manage strip centers (with a grocery store and then several smaller shops) along with building CVS Pharmacies. I am actually sort of like shared overhead for several companies which works out GREAT for me until year end which is why going to WDW in January to run the 1/2 was simply CRAZY! :scared1: Of course, at this point, it is something I plan on doing many times.

I entered the world of better health due to a number of personal trials. My mother passed away in her early 50s in 2004 from breast cancer. My father has had all sorts of health issues, including a bad heart where he finally received a heart transplant in November of 2006. You could say that my genetic makeup is basically that of a time bomb. If I want to be around for my kids, I have got to do something and do it NOW.

I also found myself on my back in the hospital for almost the entire month of June, 2007. Gall stones got loose and did a "scrubbing bubbles" trick on my pancreas and it was quite the ordeal to get better. When I was finally released, I could not even walk from the car to a store without feeling winded, much less actually do any shopping. I would come out covered in sweat and shaking as if I had run for miles. It was horrible and certainly convinced me that I needed to do something.

It was October before I really felt like myself again. I had signed up for the 1/2 thinking it was a good goal for me BEFORE I got sick and after my illness, it became something I really needed to do for myself. I made it 7 miles before I was swpet for speed and I was thrilled. I wasn't sore! I wasn't overly tired! (except for that 3:15 am wake up call!) I was actually ok and could have gone the whole way, just not at that pace.

So, here I am. Continuing to work on losing weight and getting healthy. Doing races seems to be a good focus for me as it keeps me going until the next one. I try go to Curves 3 times a week and I am definitely eating better. Now I just need to lose more weight and speed up that walking! Both are my immediate goals.

I may not be speedy, but you all can count of me for lots of steady work/hours/miles. I am really looking forward to this competition!

Laura

Laura:  and good for you with all your hard work and determination. We'll keep ya as long as you continue on your healthy path (heck we'll keep ya anyway!!). Oh and Happy Birthday to your little one too. We have 2 birthday shout outs for today!!!
