Super Goofs Ringing in the New Year

Hello Goofs,

I've snagged us a few new members who should be coming over soon to introduce themselves.

Cindy/Cindylou
Megan/poppinspal
Amy/engagedatWDW
Ashleigh/Disney Momma09

Suzanne I go back and forth on WDW for 2011. On the one hand, I could sign up for the half marathon and finally make it the "fun" race that everyone says! Meaning no pressure, enjoy the scenery, take pictures, etc. On the other hand, there are other races to try and if by some chance I am lucky enough to BQ this fall, whatever I do in January would have to support an April race. But onthe other hand if I don't BQ and still want to I could run the marathon.

Wait....I think I ran out of hands!

Maura

Welcome new Goofs! :grouphug:

I won't be doing the WDW Marathon again in 2011 mainly because we will be visiting in September and can only go once each year. I will unfortunately just be missing the Wine & Dine by a week. :sad1:

I am normally a "been there, done that" runner as I'd rather try new races than redo races to try to beat previous times. WDW is different though and I really want to get back to do it again. I may shoot for the Goofy Challenge in 2012 or 2013.

I already completed my first goal for 2010 which was to run a marathon. A new goal I've added is to knock an hour off my WDW Marathon time of 5:51. I'm running a local marathon in October but I don't know that I can cut that much time as it's pretty hilly. That will be my goal anyway.

I also want to run a half marathon in under two hours. My best four times were 2:05, 2:07, 2:07, and 2:08 so I think this one is pretty doable.

My main goal is just to get through the year injury-free. My knee set me too far back this year so I want to make sure I stick to my training plan and not increase mileage or intensity too quickly.

Welcome new Goofs!! :grouphug: Please introduce yourselfs so we can get to know you. Let me know if you have any questions.

Steve
, sounds like some great goals for 2010! I'm sure injury-free is on everyone's list.

Maura, I understand about going back and forth for 2011. I live 20 mins away and am going back and forth.

Welcome new Goofs!

Maura - this is what I posted for my 2010 goals in the other thread:

My exercise/fitness goals for 2010 are:

1) Continue my running streak. I'm almost halfway through my second year, and I would like to keep it going as long as possible.

2) Break 3:30 for a marathon. I ran a 3:36 last year, so it should be doable. (On the other hand, I barely broke 4:30 a couple of weeks ago - fail to train, and you cannot fake a decent marathon.)

3) Try to make weights, rowing, biking, yoga, etc additional parts of my routine.

4) I would like to break 1850 miles (running) for the year. Getting to 2000 would be fantastic, but we'll have to see how things go.

5) Run a 50-mile ultra this fall.

steve - worthy goals, all. And especially remaining injury-free - that's probably the most important one.

Suzanne - DW and I want to go back for marathon weekend at some point, but it won't be in 2011. We might wait until 2013 (I think - whenever the 20th of the Mickey is), and I'll just do the Dopey again then.

You guys have been busy! I have done almost no physical activity since returning from the Artic Adventure 2010. I feel so fat (but have not gained any weight) I have been crazy busy with job searches and interview but the good news is.......
I FOUND MY DREAM JOB!!!!!
I will be providing primary care in a homeless shelter. Spring and summer I will be getting on my bike to do outreach work. Have stethescope will travel!
Feb 21 I have a half marathon- should be interesting with the amount of training I have done!
If any one is interested we are looking for people to join our team for the Reach the Beach Relay. We are down a few and would love to have anyone join us who is able. Feel free to google for more info or contact me.

Hi Goofs! :wave2: I'm a new member and stopping in to introduce myself. My name is Ashleigh. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Dan. Together we are the proud parents of almost 9 month old, Colby. (Check out my PTR for pics!)

Before I got pregnant with Colby, I did the couch 2 5K and then continued building my distance until I was up to about 5 miles a run. The pregnancy and DS's birth, along with life in general, put me back at square one with running. New Years along with discovering the DIS has re-inspired me to start over again. So I am in week 2 of C25K once again. My short term goals are to participate in a few local 5K's this spring and then a 10K in August. Long term, I hope to participate in one of the half marathons at WDW. My first choice is the Princess half next March (2011), as anyone in my family will tell you that I am a princess. If not that, then I would like to do the WDW half next January.

From the looks of it, I will have a great resource and lots of support from you all! I can't believe some of you are going to be running 50 mile races! That is amazing!

Maura-I love your name! Maura was our girls name when I was pregnant last year!

I am looking forward to getting to know you all better!

Hi Super Goofs! I'm Megan and I'm a newly assigned goof. I'm 28 years old and I live just north of Boston. I have a wide range of interests but disney is definitely up there on the list.

I guess I'll share a little about my racing/running/walking history. I was more of a team sports girl. I had let myself go while dating my ex-boyfriend and had put on weight and stopped exercising. One day I saw the something about the first Tower of Terror race and signed up to do the 13k. (I ran it all three years.) But I never trained the way I should, I didn't do enough. But I ran/walked it all three years and have the medals to prove it. I also ran some small local 5ks and last year I ran the Falmouth Road Race (a large, popular local race) for charity. I lost a little weight and have started to get more in shape.

I have two weeks and one run left in the couch to 5k program. I had been spotty with my run/walks and I thought this would get me to a steady place. After that I'm going to begin the Marathoning for Mortals Half Marathon plan because I crazily signed up for a half marathon in Boston that takes place June 27. I am also doing a 5k in March for St. Patrick's Day. (And praying for no snow/freezing temps. New England weather being what it is.)

So I guess my goals for the following year are
-to continue to drop the unwanted pounds
-to successfully run my first half marathon
-to learn more about properly training
-to find more local races that I can enjoy doing

Sorry this was so long, I get started typing and I go with it. I've poked my head in from time to time but was never really active here. But I'm really excited to be a part of a WISH team and to get to know you all.

Hi fellow Goofs, new member here! My name is Amy and I'm really excited to be part of a WISH Team. I've been mostly a lurker on DIS for a few years and have participated in a few of the larger WISH groups before. I found having a place to come and share your workout goals kept me motivated, but I fell off the wagon (or is it on the wagon?? :)) after my wedding and have had a hard time sticking to my plans. The reason I'm here now is that my husband and I were down in WDW for the marathon and we were both completely inspired! I wanted to run right then and there. It was a strange feeling as I've never been a runner but thinking about it gave me chills and just felt like the right thing to start. I've been a walker before, but have used mostly step aerobics and yoga for exercise. As soon as we got home we began researching how to properly start running and picked out a plan for beginners. Unfortunately, I came home with a cold/cough from the crazy weather in FL that week so I had to wait to start my program. Last Saturday I went to a local running store and got properly fitted for shoes and got some education and encouragement and I officially began the C25K program on Monday.

I'm looking for some 5ks to do in the late Spring (that aren't already full) and then some longer races in the summer/fall. My big goal is to walk/run the half in January. I'm hoping that by having these goals, they will keep me motivated throughout the year so that I can lose this extra weight and really challenge myself. My husband is working towards the full - he's already at a great fitness level and used to be a runner.

A little bit about me... well, I'm a Disney nut. My husband and I were engaged and married at WDW and we've been back to celebrate our 3 anniversaries. I like to say that we're those Disney weirdos whose friends talk about behind our backs. Aside from that, I work just outside of D.C. as a government contractor (basically pushing papers) but I'm also in school part-time focusing on becoming a physical therapy assistant. Life in a cubicle is not for me! We also have 2 Italian Greyhounds (our 4 legged kids) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Dave Matthews Band!

There's going to be a lot of changes in my life this year, and I feel like becoming physically fit and running will help me to be mentally stronger and become the person I want to be.

Wow, I just re-read my post and realized how long it was. Hope I didn't lose any of you there! I promise not to ramble on like that all the time. :) I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Amy

:welcome: to our newest members....

Ashleigh Of course, I can't take credit for my name. That would be my mom's doing. I was destined to be an "M" name, since my mother had planned on having 8 kids-4 boys, 4 girls with 2 "M" names and 2 "J" names for each. Well, she ended up having 6, but we do follow the pattern! Also, if you're Irish-American, and from Boston, then Maura is not totally uncommon. My 6th grade teacher's daughter was Maura.

Megan Where abouts are you from? I am originally from Danvers, went to school in Medford and Cambridge and reluctantly moved to Michigan 25 years ago.

Amy Looks like we'll have our own in-house PT person to talk to! That will come in handy, since it seems we all end up with aches/pains.

Good luck to all of you as you begin/ramp-up your training. Please ask us whatever questions you have and let us know how things are going.

Joanne:cool1:Congratulations on your new job! It sounds very fulfilling.

Steve Seems like we have pretty similar goals--although I am looking at just trying to knock a few minutes off of my marathon time. Also looking at one in the fall, but at least the Free Press marathon is flat. It is cool in that you get to run in two countries at once (Canada/US)and have an underwater mile!

Rich Wow...3:30 is a great goal. I hope you make it. And I hear you on the other XT. My goal is to incorporate more yoga into my week and not slack off on weight training. I think I just need to find a small set of good exercises rather than feel like I have to do a whole huge set of them.

Anyway, still doing just XT this week. Yesterday I did a weight class that nearly wiped me out. Today, my abs are letting me know they exist.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Maura

Maura- I am from Winchester, not too far from Danvers. I have a lot of family in Beverly. What bright you out to Michigan?

Joanne - Congratulations on finding your dream job. I'm really happy for you. That will be great to travel and get exercise while at it.

Welcome new Goofs! We're happy to have you on the team.

Ashleigh - Great job getting back into running. You were smart to set some short and long term goals as they are great motivators to get out and train. You will have so much fun at a Disney race. Where in PA are you? I've only been there once. We did an 8-day, 6-state, 13-park road trip back in 2003 and visited Kennywood and Conneaut Lake Park. There was some beautiful country out there. I'm still trying to get back and visit the eastern part of the state and visit Knoebel's, Hershey Park and Dorney Park.

Megan - I had great luck with the Marathoning for Mortals run/walk plans. I think you will really like them. You will definitely be ready for the Boston race in June.

Amy - I'm glad the WDW Marathon inspired you. It really was an incredible experience and I know you will love it. It must have been amazing getting engaged and married at WDW. You definitely sound like a Disney weirdo but you fit in great with us!

Maura - Thanks for bringing some nice new teammates. My goal of cutting an hour off my marathon time sounds like a lot but I really didn't know what to expect and started (and continued) much slower than I normally would because I was so paranoid about burning out too soon and getting injured or swept. And this time, I'll actually do my 15, 18, and 20 mile training runs! :scared:

Have a great weekend everyone!

-steve

Hi new Goofs! :yay:

Suzanne, thanks for being our captain! :thumbsup2

Lisa, we'll miss you. Thanks for being our captain and I hope you still drop in and say hello!

I'm feeling a little sad so many WISHers aren't going for Marathon Weekend in 2011. I finally signed up for a full and it sounds like many on this board aren't going back! :sad1: :confused3

I would love to go in 2011, but it just probably is not going to happen. :sad2:

Maybe I should start buying lottery tickets and wishing really, really hard or something. ;)

Joanne-congrats on finding your dream job!! I am still looking for mine!

Welcome Amy to the Goofs!!

Congrats on signing up for the full Shan!! So many have said they are not coming for 2011, maybe that will change? I am 99% sure I will do the 1/2 again to make it 3 years in a row but that might be it for me also. We'll see.

Can you believe its almost February?

Suzanne Cute names aren't my thing! Maybe we can do like Team Ohana and just do one year-long thread.

Megan I moved out to Michigan when my DH accepted a job here. When you get your PhD with a focus on Thermodynamics/combustion as he did, then inevitably you head to the midwest!

Shan I haven't totally ruled it out, but I'm not making plans for it right now-probably cause I'm still trying to decide on the DLR alf.

Rich Now that a lot of states are selling both MegaMillions and Powerball, I heard that the jackpots won't get as big. But I'd settle for $100M ;) (Asif!)

Since the New Goofs introduced themselves, I thought maybe we could introduce ourselves back. So I'm Maura, age 51, running for two years. Never really like running and couldn't go for more than 2 miles, but somehow decided to shake up my fitness routine and train for the 2008 Minnie 15k (RIP). Flash forward 2 years and I have done a half, and just did my first full, along with other 5k, 10k. Turns out, I'm not that bad a runner!

Speaking of which....took time off from running to recover after the full (some nagging aches/pains), but now it's time to start back. Don't even care if it feels like I'm starting at square one--will just ramp back up slowly.

Maura

Congrats on 2011 Shan! I W.I.S.H. I could be there too. Maybe it will be a sweltering 50 degrees for you which is way too hot for us 2010'ers.

We went over to our friends' house last night, with whom we ran the 2010 Marathon. We talked about how much fun we had and were already getting the itch to go back. We all decided we would go back in 2012 and go for Goofy! :cool1: Now off to pay some bills and eat Top Ramen for the next 23 months to make this possible.

I took my first swimming lesson today. I'm glad I did as I am so nervous about my super sprint triathlon coming up in March. I was not getting any better in the pool and felt like my lungs were going to collapse after every 25 meters.

She is working with four other people training for triathlons right now (I admit I was a little worried I was her only client over the age of 5) and had great advice for me. She told me so many things I was doing wrong, it was hard to try to keep track of everything as I was swimming. My legs were too far under the water, partially sinking because my head was coming up too far out of the water to take breaths. I was also relying on my arms too much and not my back which was wearing me out quickly

My laps came a lot easier by the end of class and I'm so eager to get back out there tomorrow. She will check my progress next week and show me a new stroke.
