Super Goofs on Parade: Foward...MARCH!

Hey team!

Quick check in from WDW! Saw Maura at the expo today along with other WISHers. Have done a bit of walking around but don't like wearing the Garmin all day so no idea how far. On the upside, Sunday's mileage will be doubled. Looking forward to having fun with friends.

Hopefully between the time change and improving weather, I'll be able to get new bike out to ride soon.

Check in again either Sunday or Monday.
Have a great weekend!

Well, I'm going to overtrain, and treat yesterday's ride like a bonus.

I've got 90 minutes on tap on the bike, and then 40 minutes running (elliptical, since I still can't run from the knee surgery).

Steve, glad you found us! A little over 18 months ago, I couldn't swim 150 yards without stopping...just takes training, time and commitment...and I'd strongly recommend swim lessons from a triathlete or tri-coach...definitely money well spent!

Cecelia, hey, I live for the laughs :)

Joanne: I'm sorry for your working this weekend...and I thought I worked in a negative environment!

Liz, have a great time at the world...its raining buckets here now, so yesterday appears to be the only nice day weather wise here.

Keep it up Goofs!

Cecilia, I'll still have one in elementary school. Matter of fact, this is the last year they'll be together for awhile. They'll get one year in high school together, but that is it. I guess I should be enjoying this year cause our schedules are going to be whacked for awhile after this. :scared:

I agree with everyone about the warmer weather. I feel so much better mentally come spring. It is amazing. Same thing with the time change - I think I'm very sensitive to the light. :lmao: Seriously, when the time change happens in the fall and it gets dark really early I'm in a good funk for several months. :confused3

UGH! I just wrote this huge post and my computer did something weird and I lost it before it was posted.

Suzanne, can I get your advice?
My Dad has connections in the hotel industry and got us a room at Holiday Inn Maingate East the night before we arrive at BCV. We'll be driving in very late. What do you think is the fastest route? (We'll be driving down 75.)

Google directions -
Florida Turnpike @ exit 328
FL-429 @ exit 267A
US-192 @ exit 6
(Looks like we have 6 miles once we turn off onto 192.)

Florida Turnpike @ exit 328
US-27 @ exit 289
US-192 (Not sure how far down 192 we'll have to drive, I'm assuming past the WDW turnoff since it is on the east side?)

Holiday Inn's directions -
I-95S TO I-4W TO EXIT 64A (US 192 EAST) GO STRAIGHT. HTL IS 1.5 MILES ON THE LEFT

Hi Shan, sorry I almost missed this post. I am terrible with directions but I would take the turnpike to the 429 to 192. The turnpike exit onto 27 is about 40 mins north of 192. The 429 is a toll road but worth it.

Quick drive by, I need a nap.

Did the Princess 5K this morning, loved that race. My goal was to jog the first 1/2 mile without stopping and I DID!! Finished right at 41 mins so just over 13 min/mile. I'll take it! Heard there were a few Wish shirts around but only saw Matt near the finish and the 2nd Princess Runner from Miami who came running over to introduce herself. Very nice lady though! Not sure I will make it to the meet today but am planning on cheering the morning for the 1/2. I'll post pictures later.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Thanks Suzanne and I'm glad you had fun this morning! Congrats on the race!
Ya, I was thinking 429. We've been taking that route to WDW last few trips anyway.

Hi goofs,

So sorry I missed the last week of February. The month was going great for me as a whole. Work has been crazy as well as other things around the house, the ground in starting to thaw and there was a lot of rain along with one of the smaller rivers not to far from our house, had a ice jam and flooded a lot of low-lying areas. Well then as a result of that the water table rose a lot and well a long story short we have some water in our basement. DH has been keeping on top of it with the shop vac, but all the exercise stuff is down there. Poor excuse I know. Hopefully the 2-3" of rain forecasted for the weekend will not be too bad on DH and the basement with the shop vac.

I did 45 minutes on the TM for 3 miles.

Hang in there everyone and I see that some are at WDW, lucky you!

I am SO READY for spring to come, this has been a long winter with lots of snow here in MI.

Lynn

Good Morning everyone!
Daylight savings today- love it!

Lisa- Goofy- 90% full (hint, hint, hint)

Good super early morning Joanne. I know. I know. I just cannot justify the cost this year I guess. I am having slight anxiety with the economy and losing nearly everything in DD's college fund, not to mention my retirement. Nashville and VAB are it for us this year and possibly WDW in February for field hockey. I will definitely be with you all in spirit though.

Today is 12 miles for me and I am just dreading it. I dread my LR every weekend. It just takes so much time out of my day! I have decided though that when I run I will just pretend I am doing the Princess half today. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts!

I took DD14 prom dress shopping yesterday. It is just heartbreaking and lifting at the same time. She is so beautiful and all the dresses looked great on her. She settled on a long light blue very plain but yet with a little bling dress. Daddy got tears when he saw her in it.

I also bought myself new jeans and got a "mmmeh" from DH. Nice. Thanks. So much hard work and that's all I get. Such is life!!!

Have a great day Goofs!!

Good morning Goofs. I am up (barely) and off to meet Maura soon to cheer for the Princess 1/2, whose idea was daylight savings time anyways?!? I promise to post my pictures from the 5K when I get home. I posted them on facebook and then had all kinds of trouble with them. Oh well. Have a great day everyone!!!

Sorry about the water in the basement Lynn.

Lisa, wow - prom dresses. I bet that was fun, but bitter sweet!

I had the usual water issues in my garage...I'm afraid to fix the leak in the garage, cause then the water will just work its way around the foundation to the living space :(

Got in 60 minutes on the elliptical for 7+ miles, and have 40 on tap on my bike trainer.

Don't know how I will do that with DW at work.

Just have to figure out a time, I guess...

have a goofy day!

A couple of pictures from the Princess 5K yesterday. I had alot of fun with this race and never thought I would say that!! My goal was to jog for the first 1/2 mile without walking or stopping and I did it!!

One gripe. Didn't make it to the expo so did packet pick up at the start. It was awesome, no line at all and very nice people working. After the race, saw the tent with the big sign "official merchandise". I was willing to spend $$ to get a nice shirt and maybe a pin or two. Lots of ESPN shirts, lots of softball and soccer shirts. Only thing Princess were a few hats, baby sweatshirts and a tiara comb thing for your hair. No racks were empty so its not like they sold out. Oh well, saved my money and I'll spend it elsewhere.

My daughter Lindsey and me before the race.

Mental Health Day

We all know that our mental-health days are just as important as our workouts, recovery days, and proper fueling. So, Monday's question for the 'Ohana mixer, which starts here on the team thread, is....

If you had an unexpected free day--no work or other obligations--and $20 to spend just on you, what would you do?

So please share those small indulgences that are essential to your mental well-being. Hopefully, we'll get new ideas and find kindred souls.

There are three little rules. Just because.

  1. You have to spend at least part of the $20 on you. No giving it away, no saving it for a rainy day, and no spending the $20 entirely on your beloved partner, cute kidlets, or BFF. You can spend time with these folks, of course, and some of the money. But the focus is on YOU and what you want to do.
  2. You can choose to work out, if you wish, or your mental health day can coincide with a recovery day.
  3. What you do on your mental health day has to reflect your everyday, local life. No "I just happened to be in Paris..." :rotfl2: You can imagine, however, that you have perfect weather.

As usual, full stories that are related to your mental-health day are welcome. Not to mention the odd digression! And you're always welcome to bring drinks, goodies, and profound thoughts on the meaning of life.

Suzanne, I am just loving your wall! How inspiring it must be to look at all your bling when you're on the treadmill.

I'm needing to get back on the workout wagon. I did two miles on Wednesday (can't remember if I posted then or not) and then promptly came down with "the crud" (as we call it in Alabama) Thursday morning. I was so achy I barely got out of bed yesterday, but I'm getting back to normal slowly but surely. My sleep schedule is out of whack, though, as you can tell by my post time! Too much work to do; I'm trying to make up for my 2 sick days last week and this is my last work week before my vacation, so I'm going to be burning the candle at both ends. I just hope I don't get sick again before our trip.

Have any of you done the Castaway Cay 5K while on a Disney Cruise? There was talk of it being discontinued, but someone posted a February Navigator from the Wonder and it was on there. I read that, let out a "woo hoo" and then gasped in astonishment at my little outburst. Just one short year ago, I would not have believed you if you'd told me that not only would I be capable of running 3.1 miles but that I'd actually be excited to do so while on a cruise vacation. Thanks, Goofs, for helping me turn into one of "those" people!

Checking in.

2300 in teh pool on tap, and then a makeup of yesterday's missed spin :(

Just too busy with DW working both weekend days.

I have a superbusy travel schedule coming up the next two weeks, which means missed training, and missed time with the goofs

I'll check in as I can, but given the current work environment, I'd just as soon not check the boards with my work laptop...

Mike

Morning Goofs!!

What...no Mikey in the morning?????? :scared1:

Kim, sorry to hear you got the crud. I still have it in my nose and chest a little. Hope you are well soon.

I got my 12 miles done. It was colder than I anticipated and I was a little on the cool side my entire run. I averaged 11:08 which is okay. These longer runs are just boring by myself I have to say. I am kinda looking forward to having lots of other people around me (and Patrick alongside) for the full. I had to stop and readjust my iPod a few times to get the right music. I ended up buying a Touch (can't remember if I reported that) and I am really not that happy with it. In the armband, unless it is upside down, I cannot read it and it takes forever to get a song changed. Also, it locks itself and you have to unlock it, find your song, etcetera. It is kind of a pain. DD14 bought a new nano with her babysitting money from last vacation and I wish I had just bought the nano replacement. I know she would LOVE to swap but I cannot justify that either. *sigh*

I have 4 miles on for today, chiropractor appointment and then home for the night. Any good ideas for dinner?

Hi Goofs!

I ended up accidentally running an extra two miles on Saturday so I was actually SORE from an 8 mile run. Bummer. I told you guys I was out of shape but now I am ashamed at exactly how bad I have been. Pathetic.

Meanwhile, dh has cranked up his tri training into full gear and is losing weight while eating everything in sight. Now I remember why I got in the habit of eating while cooking dinner - he inhales his food then sits like a buzzard waiting to finish off my meal as well. And do I lose weight when he eats my dinner? no. I swear his fat cells are migrating to my side of the bed at night.

Seriously, when the time change happens in the fall and it gets dark really early I'm in a good funk for several months. :confused3
Shan - What you are describing is called SAD (Seasonal Affect Disorder) the rememdy for this is to spend as much time as possible out doors during daylight. Open your blinds and let as much light in as you can etc etc. Running actually helps me with this problem since it gets me outside in the winter.

Lisa - way to go getting those long runs in. they can be boring but they can also be a good time to get some random thinking in. Does your ipod allow you to program it to play songs in a certain order? You might try setting up a specific playllist simply for long runs. I do this with my shuffle. I have separate playlist for regular runs and long runs. The long run play list has slower songs and also songs that I don't hear all the time. Helps keep me from getting bored with the same old songs.

Kim - I hope you feel better. And I bet that run on Castaway Island is amazing. I love that place. If I didn't have kids, I would apply to be the caretaker there.

Suzanne - great job on the race and nice pictures too! I love the inspiration wall. I should do that, all my medals are hidden in a drawer - not very inspiring at all.

Well, Have a great day everyone! I am off to tackle the laundry (aka weight lifting)

Hi Kim,

Hey, we've got a "crud" in our neck of the woods. Locals usually don't get it. It's folks who come to visit seem to go home with it. Most people pick up postcards or t-shirts while traveling but people return with the crud from here! I hope you feel better soon.

I'm excited about the Castaway Cay 5K as well. I was really bummed about it leaving too but am thrilled to see it back. I saw it on the Magic from a recent Navigator. I hear it's not timed or anything but you do get a certificate for completing it. That will look nice in my runnin' shrine!

Our cruise is in May. I too was one those people who looked at the freaks who exercised while on vacation but I am really excited about doing laps around deck on sea days. Would I get any funny looks if I filled my sports bottle with margaritas?

Suzanne, I love your wall. Having something like that look at would certainly inspire me to get on the treadmill a lot more. Great job on the Princess run!

I just ran the Foggy Bottom Milk Run 10-mile race yesterday. This event will always hold a special place for me as last year's run was my very first race. I've been so proud how far I've come this year as I struggled so much to finish the 2-mile race 12 months and 30 pounds ago.

The course starts on Main St of our little famous Victorian town of Ferndale, CA which was featured in several movies. After around two miles, it ventures off into the rural cow fields. There were some fun sights out there but not the best aroma of any race I've run! :scared:

My training hasn't been going that well lately and I was a bit nervous about how I would do. I've run a half marathon before but this would be my second-longest race. My goal was to beat the 9:44 pace I ran in my half back in October.

Everything went great until just before the 3-mile mark. The road was completely flooded for 100' or so and I had to walk across a steep, grassy bank. When I was pretty much past the water, I tried to jump across the small stream that was left and landed on a patch of mud with my right foot and slipped and fell hard on my left knee.

I blurted out a very un-Disney like expletive as I went down but quickly got up (yeah, like no one would notice :rolleyes1 ). I hobbled on for another minute or two while trying to scrape the mud off my hands and then resumed running. On my next walk break I assessed the damage and my knee was covered in blood and mud. Only 7 miles to go!

The rest of the race went really well. I actually felt stronger later in the race which I never do. I ended up shattering my 9:44 goal by finishing at 8:55! This was only the third time I've run sub-9:00 and my second-fastest pace ever, behind only a 2-mile from December.

Of the 1200+ runners, only 83 competed in the 10-mile length. I finished 40th overall and 2nd in my age bracket.

My knee didn't start bothering me until I cleaned it up after the race. It started swelling up so I spent the night with it elevated and on ice. I'm taking it easy today and will see how I feel tomorrow. I've got a 15k in two weeks so I need to make sure I'm ready to go! :3dglasses
