New month already! I'm glad, because May has been a roller coaster (although I do like roller coasters in real life!). So, I did manage to do 3 miles on Friday (29 min) with another 20 minutes of stretching--so 50 minutes. But I don't appear to have shaken my left knee pain (and I have only run about 6-7 total miles since Minnie) so I've decided to go see a doctor about it. I expect he won't find anything serious and will recommend all the things I've already been doing, but I really want to resolve this.
Yesterday did a nice walk with the dog-2 miles in 35 minutes--looks slow, but the walking parts were actually brisk--it's all the stopping ans smelling and peeing and barking that adds the extra time.
Without a good run, I'm not likely to do the triathlon, so I'm re-assessing my training. My DH says I should become a cyclist!

....and on the bio front. I'm Maura, live in SE Michigan (go Wings!), originally from north of Boston (go Sox & Celtics!) I'm turning the big 5-0 this year (no worries--yet!), married with 2 children-DD, 18 and DS, 16. Both my DH and I work for GM--I'm in R&D, he works on Powertrains. I'm a new, and still learning, runner. We have an energetic, troublemaking Lab Mix named Buddy who causes me much grief (but is cute when he snuggles)--he ate my glasses earlier this week! Looking forward to meeting more WISHers at the WDW 1/2 in January

Hey, remember me?

I am a team member too, but not that active.

Sorry - was sick and busy this week, so not a lot of activity.

BUT.. had a very good outing at the gym for a couple of hours yesterday and plan to return today for an hour.

I decided I really need to focus on stamina and conditioning for the next couple of weeks.

I figure I could crawl up to 10k at this point without too much difficulty if I had a week! - seriously, my biggest problem at my last race was that I stopped to rest too much.

I am going to link up with a trainer at the gym this week too.

So off on the June challenge...

Linda:tinker: :donald: :mickeyjum

Oops- it's June. Duplicate post from May!

Well I just finished the Pack Monadnock Road Race. I came in third- third from last! The course was brutal and I am super glad its over. I will never do this race again and I am so grateful now that I did not get into the Mount Washington lottery. My goal was 2 hours but I really was not anticipating how steep the last 2 miles were.

10 miles in 2:17. This is the course description-

This course was designed to give runners a hill-climb challenge and to test strength and endurance. The race starts on Highland St near Wilton Lnydeborough High School. It runs uphill for the first mile. At the first mile marker, the course flattens out as it turns onto Sand Hill Road (gravel) and remains flat for about one half mile. There will be a rolling uphill grade as Sand Hill road ends and merges onto Davisville Road (paved) through mile three.

Next, the course turns left onto Burton Highway with gradual uphill and rolling terrain. At approximately 5.5 miles, there is steep 1/4 mile climb. The course bears left onto Webster Highway for 1.5 miles of relatively flat, rolling paved road.

At mile 7, the course bears right onto Old Revolutionary Rd. (gravel) and goes uphill for one-half mile and flattens out for one-half mile. Just before mile 8 the course turns onto Rt. 101 (paved) and climbs a steep hill grade for 1/2 mile. The course becomes relatively flat for 2/10 mile as it passes Temple Mountains Ski Area.

The last 1.3 miles of the course climb the paved switch-back road in Miller State Park to the summit of Pack Monadnock Mountain. The last 1.3 miles are as steep or steeper than Mt Washington.

Hope this helps the team! I am not sore and I actually am pretty proud of myself! DLF beats DNS!

Welcome to all the new team members...SuperGoofs is no doubt the best team to be a part of.

My name is Shannon (a.k.a. FloridaGirl). I'm a 33 yo mom of two (DS-8 and DD-3). I've been married to my husband for 9 yrs..we met as college freshmen and dated for 7 yrs before marrying. We're both active duty Air Force, currently stationed in Panama City, FL. We're being transferred in July to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. I'm looking forward to the move, but I'm dreading being so far away from Disney. I learned about the Disney races from a co-worker last year and have since completed the Half last Jan. and the Minnie 15K a few weeks ago...Disney races are a blast! Unfortunately, I probably won't be back to compete until Marathon Weekend 2010, but I plan on trying to find some races in Oklahoma City to build up my miles. I was always very athletic growing up, but I've never been a distance runner. I got into running as a way to get healthier...I don't have the best eating habits, and I could stand to lose about 15-20 lbs, so I'm using running to help me reach my goal. Plus, Disney races are a good excuse to go back to Disney, as my husband sometimes needs coaxing since he is not as big of a fan as I am

I don't post as often as some of the other SuperGoofs, but I lurk when I can and do enjoy being part of such a great team.

Lisa...please see May thread for May miles I submitted late.

45 minute swim, 95 minute 8.5 mile run.

Yuck...today was a "character building" workout...

I'll be gone for two weeks starting on Wednesday...I'll post numbers when I get back.

Go Go GOOFS!!!

Happy June everyone! Well, I sure got a work out in today!!! I spent 3 hours in the backyard with DH digging holes for our deck. Oh yeah, 3 hours of hard work... calories a burnin'!:cool1:

it's all the stopping ans smelling and peeing and barking that adds the extra time
Maura, you really need to try to go for a walk some time without doing all that! :rotfl2: If the Tag Fairy is a Super Goof, you're bound to have a new tag before the day is over.

I did Week 5 Day 2 of Couch to 5K today. The dreaded 20-minute run will be on Tuesday, and I am SO nervous! But I did 2.05 miles today in 31.5 minutes. Still slower than that 15-minute mile I'm striving for. Thank goodness I have loads of time to work on improving my speed before RftT.

Good morning, good morning, my Super Goofs. You all were out there working away at fitness this weekend I see. Good for all of you!!! :thumbsup2

I had a 7.79 mile run yesterday in 1:28:00 which is about a 10:45 pace. I took it easy and did a 4r/1w so that hammy and I were still talking at the end of the run. It was a hot one but a good one. I was very happy to see my miles back in the range I want them to be in. Today is XT and supposed to be strength but I won't make it to the gym today. Tomorrow is another 5 miler and I will add the strength on there.

We were given the word that we have a softball tourney this weekend (our first of the summer) and that the State competition is the 28/29 which is the same weekend DD13 was supposed to play field hockey in the Maine Games. Decisions, decisions.....:confused3

Joanne: WTG on that killer hilly course. Wow, you should have just done Great Bay with us and called those hills good!!!! I am learning to embrace hill work, I don't like it, but consider it a necessary evil...:lmao:

Beth: Where do you usually stay for RnR VA Beach? I was looking at this year's hotel choices and they seem pretty reasonable. Do you stay at the host hotel or further down the beach? The Atlantic Sands looked to be about halfway-ish. Anal planner, remember. Done planning WDW in October so I have to move on to next year......:hyper:

Morning Goofs!

I am back from my whirlwind weekend. Everyone is graduated, married and showered. whew. The whole family dropped into bed at 9pm last night.

Today my inlaws arrive. I like them, I swear I do. sorta. I just really need a couple days of quiet before getting hit with guests.

Off to the gym...

Lisa: I actually stayed at a place last year right along the boardwalk and straight up from the expo center. It was a great location ((((I will have to look up the name for you)))) but we paid for it!! I am not sure which one we will pick this year. We have ressies at about 5 places right now! :faint: I will scope it all out for you when I am down this year.

I did get 3 miles in on Sunday.....didn't feel like it, but did it anyway, without much enthuasiam! :( Time was 35 minutes, and again.....:(

Thanks Lisa- I was feeling sorry for myself that none my team mates congratulated me on my effort! Boo Hoo- I'll pat myself on my back, I guess :)

Two hours riding today. No running.
Fingers and toes crossed for me- tomorrow is the beast's vet check/prepurchase exam!

Oh yes, GO DETROIT RED WINGS!!! I will be glued to the TV this evening. I splurged and went to the local "cookies by design" as they advertised decorated cookies shaped like octopi ~~ complete with purple frosting! Also the bengal tiger statue outside Comerica Park is dressed with a huge Red Wings Jersey!

Keep up the good work, You can do it and be persistent. I was where you are now just about weeks ago or so. I am oh so close to the 15 minute mile, in fact I think I have been on about a 13 minute mile pace.

I went for a short walk this evening ++

30 minutes for 1.2 miles. Hope to get back at the running soon. My body wants to, really!

So I spent the weekend at camp.

Saturday I led hikes and scavenger hunts all over camp for 5-6 hours. I should have worn a pedometer, I know I walked a bunch.

Sunday I helped the belayer stay on the ground and boost the kids up the wall for 3 hours at the climbing wall.

Today I moved boxes and furniture at work for about 3 hours.

I do need to start my exercise routine again.

I've been a slacker lately...its been really busy at work so when I get home at midnight after being on my feet for 5 hours, the last thing I want to do is get on the treadmill.

Monday...30 mins treadmill/1.33 miles

Good morning my Super Goofs. No slackers around here, just the hardest working group on the boards!!! Suzanne not wanting to be on the TM at midnight is like me not wanting to be on the computer after I get done working. I promise to update the spreadsheet soon.....:rolleyes1 I'm just laying in wait for the other teams to think they are way ahead and then....wham...:surfweb: :faint: :thumbsup2

Yesterday was overcast and raining off and on and, since it was XT day, I hauled out the trusty bike and went for a 7+ mile ride. It started raining during the ride but the beauty of slightly overcast and raining on a bike is the helmet, sunglasses and wind jacket. I had none of the above on my last soaking run. :headache: Today is 5-ish miles. I will have to talk with hammy and see what she thinks about 5 miles today and whether we tackle the hill or take the flatter out and back route.

Mike, have a great trip. There is no jealous smilie (along with the proud parent smilie) so you will just have to imagine the green-faced jealous looking smilie here...( ). Enjoy the beautiful weather and soak up some healing sun.

Have a great day Super Goofs!!! :yay:

Yesterday it was 40 minutes of biking and 10 miles (on the trainer). Today it was 40 minutes of stretch and weights--still feeling it from the class I took on Sunday!

OT....for all you NH/NE folks (Of which I still count myself as one)....any suggestions on a dog-friendly place to spend a few days of vacation. We're going home in July (north of Boston) and I'd like to be able to go somewhere. We're checking out the Cape, maybe Maine, but it has to be dog-firiendly. The whole point of the trip is to have my mother see her "great-grand-dog", who she misses a bunch!
