Cute thread name, Suzanne!

Welcome to our newest Super Goofs. I look forward to getting to know you.

So have we decided how we're tracking miles and minutes? I guess today is the first official day of the team challenge, so I guess we need to start doing that. Good thing it starts today, because yesterday's attempt at a run was really awful. I'd hate to have it count for the team. Better luck today, although with a brand-new Dunkin Donuts opening nearby -- the only one in a 3-hour radius -- I predict my diet will be worse than usual!

Good morning Goofs.

Got the month off to a good start, when I convinced myself to do a workout I really did not want to do: intervals. I managed to get through 12 x 400s, with 400s inbetween for recovery. I probably should have either done more, shortened the recovery, or run the hard part faster, but I am just getting back into speedwork, so I would rather err on the side of caution.

I don't know what we are doing as far as miles & minutes go, but I did think that maybe we could figure out how far everyone is from Disney, add up the total distance, and then everyone contributes to it.

For example, we have 14 Goofs, and our total distance from WDW is 18900 miles. But everyone counts their miles toward this goal, so at the end of the month, all the Goofs together have gone 1043.24 miles, leaving 17856.76 miles to go.

I have a question I hope (know) someone here can answer...

When starting a training schedule, do I start with week one mileage even if I am currently doing more than week one calls for? Or do I start it at week XX that my mileage is at?

Did I say that right? I hope someone understands what I'm trying to ask and can help me out!

TIA

Rich, love the idea, if everyone wants to post how far they are from WDW and then how many miles they've logged each week, I will track it! I am 18 miles from the Wilderness Lodge.

Angie, can't help you with your training question but I'm sure someone else here can, how's the weather in NH?

Happy Groundhog Day!!

Good Morning Goofs.

I am new to the SuperGoofs, but have been around WISH for 3 years now. My name is Cindy and I'm a 40 something mother of 3 (DS8, DD5 & DD5). I work 30 hrs a week at a biotech company which gives me a few hours during the week in which to run. I have run 7 marathons the latest being WDW 2010 while doing Goofy for the first time. I so thoroughly enjoyed Goofy, I'd do it again in a heart beat. Unfortunately it might not be in the budget (I am also playing the lottery). I'm thinking maybe the 20th anniversary for Mickey (2013) or 10th anniv for Goofy (2015) may be the next trip. I'd love to do the Wine and Dine Half, but not sure I'll manage that either. Currently I am training for the Boston Marathon in April which I qualified for last October. I'm in week 2 of training. So far so good. I did have to skip one of my runs already because of life being too busy, but that happens a lot. I hope to minimize it over the next 11 weeks. I'm still trying to come up with a list of goals for this year. Right now I can't think beyond April. I look forward to getting to know you all better.

Suzanne: Thanks for being the captain.

Angie: I usually start at week XX that coincides with my current mileage.

Rich: I'm incredibly impressed with your running streak. Good luck in continuing it. I like your idea, let's run to Disney. I am 1312 miles away.

Kim: Being in Massachusetts, I cannot go more than 3 miles without seeing a Dunkin Donuts. Love the flatbread sandwiches, and the muffins, and the glazed sticks..... Yummmmm.

Ashleigh: Good luck with the C25K. You having been through it before should make it easier, although everything changes once you’ve had a baby.

Megan: I just got something in the mail about the half in Boston on June 27th. I’m going to have to look into that a bit more. Good luck with your training. I’m hoping the rest of this winter takes it easy on us.

Amy: Glad you’ve recovered from your cold and were able to start the C25K. Good luck with your training. Signing up for a race is a great motivator to get your runs in.

Maura: I have no doubt that you will be able to BQ and even go sub 4 hr. Your time for your first marathon was fabulous. Just rest those pesky aches and pains so you can get into training feeling strong.

Steve: Cutting an hour off your time is lofty, but certainly not out of reach. Training runs are key. Include just a few and that should help. :rolleyes1 I’m glad the swim lessons have helped.

Shan: There will still be plenty of great WISHers to run with in 2011. Don’t even be sad about it.

Joanne: Congratulations on your new job. I hope it turns out to be everything you think it will be. I think of you as I drive thru the Concord rotary although I had seen that you were no longer there. Hope your knee is recovered since that’s the last news I had heard from you.

This turned into quite a long post. Can't guarantee I'll be this wordy in the future. Dis time cuts into training time - I have to balance the two.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Angie - If you are starting, for example, the penguins 16-week half-marathon program, and you are currently at, say ,the mileage for week six, but it is only week one, I would hold at where you are, rather than step back or move forward along the program. The former is unnecessary, but the latter would have you ready for race day weeks or months early.

If you are following one of the training cycles (where you work on distance for 12 weeks, then speed for 12 weeks, then frequency for 12 weeks), then just progress along the cycle.

Suzanne - According to the gmaps pedometer, from my front door to the front door of Wilderness Lodge, I would have to run 1123 miles.

Rich I like that idea! It sort of reminds me of what I do training for a Disney race--as my long run increases, I imagine where I am on the course. We could do it as a team (for those who want to participate) and/or each person could do it individually. According to Google maps, I am 1179 miles from Old Key West. I pick that resort because it's the place I have stayed most often when at WDW (thanks to my sister's DVC points!)

Angie If you have been training steadily, I would say it is okay to jump into a new plan at the mileage you're already up to, instead of starting from scratch. As long as you are not exceeding your previous weekly mileage by 10%, and the individual runs/walks are ones you can do. I have done that myself before.

Cindy Welcome! I have to admit, I had read your blog before assigning you to a team, and brough you over here on purpose. I will follow your training and race with interest--that, plus you're from MA, which is always a plus in my book!

All Goofs We will be having a nother new member join us, so welcome "jeanigor".

As for me.....today will be only my second run since the marathon. I took some time off, XT'ed and am hoping I have given my legs a well deserved rest. Regardless, I am starting back runnning! I expect to only do a few miles today--I hope I can make it through. The first run a week or so ago was ugly!

Happy Groundhog day. I am ready for winter to end now. I should go wake up the one that lives somewhere in the corner of my yard--it's cloudy, so he won't see his shadow!

Maura

Welcome Cindy! Wow, a BQer on the team. I love it. That would mean a 3:30 for me and I'd be thrilled to finish a marathon in under 5 hours. I could never imagine it. Great job finishing your first Goofy! :worship:

I love the idea of contributing miles to WDW. I live 3123 from my second home at AKL. Sorry, I'm really putting you to work with that many miles! Do we want to start as of 2/1? Is it just running and walking or do we want to include biking, elliptical, moonwalking, swimming, etc?

I'll type a re-intro for myself but I'll need to block out some time to do so as I'm so wordy I tend to write novels. :rolleyes1

Hi Goofs!! :goodvibes

Look at you all just chugging along!! I am so proud of every one of you just keeping on with all that you do. Thanks for all your kind words. Captaining was just getting to be too much for me. Suzanne is an awesome selection for captain!! Anyone who does not know her should, she is a spectacular person.

Good news, I am back in training! Not for anything in particular but just training. Happy to be back running and clear-headed again!

Shelby is still playing elite softball on the 18U team out of Portland. We should be in both Mass and NH throughout the summer. I will try and let you all know when I am close by so maybe I can sneak a hug in here and there. David is hot into hockey...:upsidedow I should be thankful I have active kids right??

I will try to pop in once in awhile just to check on all you wonderful peeps! Mike, miss you much man. Friend me on FB for cripes sake....:flower3: Anyone else who wants to friend me, please do. If you need my info, just zip me a PM!

Welcome Cindy!!

Lisa, thanks for the kind words. I learned from the best and will try to follow in your footsteps and make you proud!! I'm glad things are going well for you, Mike and the kids. Please stop by when you can, we all miss you!!

I will start adding up everyone's miles from home to WDW and then subtracting as you post. Anyone want to guess how long it will take us to get there?

Thanks for all the answers, since they are all pretty much the same, I will start at my current level week and go from there!

I am 1395 miles from my happy place....

Our weather has been pretty good, meaning avg of about 20-30 degrees during the day, very cold at night, but not a lot of snow (knock on wood!) Our race season starts (for me anyways) on Super Bowl Sunday

Hi, my name is Todd. I'll be thirty this year. I am a newbie to running/racing. I am also new to the WISH part of the DIS.
I planned on doing the Donald last month, but things fell through. I ended up being a spectator/cheer guy on the side lines. Last year, I participated in the Muddy Buddy event in Orlando and plan on doing it again this May as well. I have already registered for the Wine and Dine Dash in October. It will be my first official race. I am kind of nervous, but mostly excited. I am also planning on registering this month for the Mickey 2011.
I look forward to getting to know you.

Oh, and I am 1197 miles from my happy place.

Hi again all, I know twice in a week even...:scared1:

I just wanted to calculate out my miles for fun to see who was farther away than me....
1509 miles

Just too much....:sad1:

Welcome all new members!:cheer2:
Lisa- Are you back on our team (fingers crossed)
Cindy- way to go BQ! Was it Bay State your BQ? I am going to try for October this year with a flat course in Hampton, NH. Since I will be another year older I get to get into a different age group. My BQ is 4 hours. I can do it is I really buckle down, loose some weight and not drink so much medicinal beer or wine:rolleyes1

I have no idea on my miles to Disney. I think Suzanne will be the closest!

I have been taking a fitness bootcamp twice a week. It is killing me- I feel like I am doing 'Last chance workouts' Today the instructor drew cards and depending on the suit and number you had to do the exercise. Jacks were 100.
100 situps and 100 squats were not fun- we even had to do it more than once!
It is an hour of torture and I love every minute of it!

Good morning Goofs!

I am 1125 miles away from my happy place. (Technically, it's a smidge less, something like 1124.8949573761263 or something, but really, that extra little bit is probably a rounding error or something.) That would get me from my front door to the front door of AKL - and some year, when the kids are older, maybe I will run that route.

Personally, my guess is that we won't get everyone to the World until sometime in September or October, but as long as we get there before the end of the year, it's all good, right?

Welcome Todd!!

Lisa, 2 days in a row, do you want your old job back???!!!

Joanne, I remember you are from NH, what city? I will figure out the mileage for you.

Rich, you are right, as long as we arrive by the end of the year, it will be a success!

Angie, no snow here either except for marathon weekend  but we've had lots of rain lately and its not even rainy season. Not to rub it in but its sunny and 68 today, want to come visit?!

Random thoughts on the Run to Disney idea:

1) Do we start with Feb 1, or backdate to Jan 1?

2) Races, organized events, etc still count as double miles?

3) Should we establish a set speed (so that an hour of gardening counts as 4 or 5 miles or something)?

Yes, these occured to me while I was running today.
