Super easy ice cream cake-great for the 4th!

Hi. I made this cake yesterday for a bbq and it got rave reviews. Thought I'd share. It's really so easy it's embarassing



Use a 9x13 tin(the deep one-about 2-3 inches)

Spread a layer of cool whip, then put a layer of ice cream sandwiches, top that with another layer of cool whip, more ice cream sandwiches-top with another layer of cool whip and then pour a bottle of chocolate fudge Magic Shell over the top. Freeze overnight. It was a huge hit!

how many boxes of ice cream sandwiches did you need to use?...I am thinking of trying this..our store has their own brand on sale this week..and they have regular ice cream sandwiches with vanilla..some with chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, and mint chocolate chip..thinking of alternating the layers and using all the flavors!..

I make one similar to this, but I chop up peanut butter cups and Heath bars and mix it in with the Cool Whip. You could use any kind of chocolate candy bar you like. I like the Magic Shell idea, I might have to try that next time. I usually just sprinkle with chopped pecans and drizzle with chocolate syrup. BTW, the one I make is called Frozen Heaven.

I used almost 2 boxes of 12 each, maybe 21 or 22 sandwiches? I also used about a tub and a half of Cool Whip. I'm telling you it was so simple and people were going nuts over it-the whole thing was gone in minutes I used only the vanilla sandwiches but the mix would probably be great!!


Oh and for those on a diet-years ago at weight watchers, they told us how to make our own very low fat ice cream sandwiches. Also super easy: use chocolate flavor graham crackers, spread about a tablespoon of lowfat cool whip, cover it with another cracker, wrap in saran wrap or foil and freeze. They were really good!

Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to try this one too. My DS loves Baskin Robbins ice cream cakes. I bet he'll love this one too. Using different flavors is a great idea. I think I'll do one layer with strawberry, & one with vanilla. I may try to make a smaller one though. There's only 3 of us & a 9x13 cake would last forever.

The one I make uses:

broken up oreos
ice cream
fudge topping
cool whip

You freeze between each layer except the oreos.
