Well, I lost my mind a month ago, and booked a 5:10 AM flight out of Newark, NJ on NYE. Headed to DL via Houston....

The last few days, I have been wondering..... should we get to the airport around 3:30 am?? (oh jeez that means leaving here at 2:15 am)

The skycaps do not begin this early, I am pretty sure, but I assume the personnel will be there to take our checked bags, it just seems so bizarre to get to the airport this early. Any tips or suggestions?

You should check the airport website to see what time ticketing and TSA open. I wouldn't show up much before 4:00am if this was at BOS (that's more than an hour before the flight)

No advice but eek. I've done one of those before. 5:00 AM flight out of Ft. lauderdale. The cab dropped me off around 3:45 and we all just sat on the floor because security didn't even open until 4:30 I believe. And of course no shops/cafés were open at that hour. Not familiar with your airport though.

I had a similar flight, but not out of newark. The biggest bottleneck will probably be TSA. Instead of the usual 6 lines moving through security, there will probably only be one line at that hour.

Thanks for that tip, I will have to call the airport because I can't find any information anywhere online. One site seemed to say that the airport was open 4 am - 2 am. I will look into that, and see if it is accurate.

I wanted to get to the west coast early, because we are flying on NYE and I know it will be a zoo out at DL that day.

We always take 630 am flights out of laguardia to disney. The lines both times were very short because it's so early. Yes the scanning line was only 1 but at that hour it is so much less crowded.

I have done 6 or 6:30, but not 5:10 am, lol.

Looks like Newark is open 24 hours, so that is good. It will be weird, but interesting.
