Now that the Patriots are off to the Super Bowl, DH wants to have the party at our house.

Anybody got a good chili recipe?

I thought I'd also make some chicken wings, and DH has asked me to make my pita cheese/garlic chips. Any other suggestions?

Here's one chili recipe I like to make. It has a lot of ingredients but is tasty. Other than this I'd suggest some Tex-Mex items to honor the host City of Houston. Maybe some guacamole, cheese stuffed hot peppers, cornbread, mini tacos, etc.

Hard Rock Cafe Chili

2 tbsp oil
1 large onion, chopped
3 large cloves garlic, crushed
2 -1/2 lb hamburger
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp barbecue sauce
2 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp celery salt
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp instant dried minced onion
1 tsp instant dried minced garlic
cayenne pepper to taste
15 oz. Can tomatoes, chopped with liquid
16 oz. Can red kidney beans
4 oz. Jar pimentos with liquid
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1/4 cup diced celery

Instructions:
Brown hamburger, drain off fat. Cook onion until softened. Add to hamburger. Add crushed garlic. In small bowl combine tomato paste, worcestershire sauce, barbecue sauce, chili powder, brown sugar, soy sauce, celery salt, cumin, black pepper, seasoned salt, minced onion, minced garlic and cayenne pepper. Mix well. Add to hamburger mixture. Bring to simmer over medium heat, cook, stirring 5 minutes. Drain and rinse kidney beans. Add to hamburger mixture along with tomatoes and their liquid. Reduce heat to low. Cook, covered, 15 minutes, stir occasionally. Add pimentos and liquid, green pepper and celery. Cook, uncovered, 5 minutes longer, stir occasionally.

MMMM, those pita chips sound good...care to share the recipe?

I'm having sweet n sour meatballs at my superbowl party...make meatballs any way you'd like, or buy a bag of frozen. Throw them in the crock pot with 1 small jar of grape jelly and 1 jar of chili sauce...let cook on low until the meatballs are done.

Sounds weird, but they are really good!

OOPs, I didn't see this thread and just started one of my own for Superbowl Sunday. Those meatballs sound good, I may try that sauce instead of my old standby!

Alison, the recipe for pita chips is sooooo easy.

Separate the pita into two rounds. I put just a little butter on the bread, sprinkle some garlic powder on it, then add some grated cheese (I usually use sharp cheddar, but you can use whatever you want). Cut the rounds into pizza-slice-shaped pieces, put on a cookie sheet in a 400 degree oven until the cheese melts, take out of the oven and serve. A little more cooking time gives added crisp. These go over very big where ever I serve them!

it might sound odd but it is soooo yummy -

1 pint stwarberries chopped up small
2 kiwis chopped up small
and 2 tablespoons orange marmalade

that is just a quide you can alter the amount of ingredients to taste.

mix it together and let it chill

serve with nacho chips!
YUMMY

I know my sister thought I was soooooooo wierd when I made it - then she tried it and she ate the whole dang bowl! LOL

Minnime where in Central MA are you?
I'm in central MA too! :)

I make this chili recipe for my family and they all like it, you can alter it to make it hotter if thats how you like it. I got it from my "Cooking with Mickey Around our World" cookbook, the copywrite date is 1986, and it says this recipe was from Campfire Snak Bar at Fort Wilderness Campground Resort and the Fiesta Fun Center Snack Bar in the Contemporary Resort. ( I don't know if these snack bars exist anymore) but anyway here it is:

Chili and Beans
Yield: 1 gallon

2 lbs. ground beef
2 1/4 c. coarsely chopped Spanish onions
1/2 tsp. granualted garlic ( I always use crushed)
2 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp ground cumin
freshly ground pepper to taste
1 1/4 T. salt
1 T. Spanish paprika ( I use the hot hungarian paprika)
2 c. tomato catsup
3 c. (29 oz. can) tomato puree
3 1/2 c. beef stock or 3 1/2 c. water plus 4 boullion cubes
3 1/4 c. (2cans, 15 oz each) pinto or kidney beans
1 c. dry bread crumbs

Saute beef and onions in a 1 1/2 gallon saucepot until meat is lightly browned. Add all the spices, catsup, puree and beef stock. Mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer over low heat, covered, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour. Add undrained beans and bring again to the boil. Add bread crumbs and remove from heat. Stir for 1 to 2 min. before serving.

Note: This recipe can be cut in half if a smaller amount is desired. It also freezes well for future use.:D

Those pita chips sound great, I am going to try those on Sunday along with dip from patty T!!!
