I'm looking at flight options for our January trip. Originally we were going to fly Jet Blue out of Syracuse as flights out of the US always save us a ton of $$. But then I remembered Sunwing and right now they're running a buy one seat get the 2nd 40% off sale. So to fly out of Ottawa would only end up being about $300 more than going to Syracuse, so I'm considering it.

My question is does anyone have any experience flying with them? I've actually used them once before and the flight was great, but I'm worried about the flight being cancelled due to bad weather or something, as it's a small airline and doesn't have 10 flights a day!

Any experiences, good or bad would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sunwing ... do they usually do chartered flights to All-Inclusive places? If it is only $300 more it might be worth it .... I might hve to look into it too for next September.
Looking forward to hearing what people think.

Just checked for me ... don't have it for Speptember, but even if they did it would be $500 and it seems they only fly out and back on Saturdays

I have not flown with Sunwing but you may want to consider Allegiant or Directair out of Plattsburgh, NY as well.

Thanks webworm, I've looked at Allegiant and Directair, but unfortunately they don't fly into MCO, and we don't rent a car, we use DME. So they don't work for us...which is too bad because Directair has really good fares!

We flew Sunwing to Orlando for our Disney vacation in January 2009. Got a great price of just over $1000 taxes included (return) for the three of us from Toronto.

Both flights were on time with no delays (actually, our flight home even left early). Flight staff were very friendly and accomodating. We received breakfast sandwiches on our flight to Orlando (it was a 7 am departure) and wraps on the way home (11 am departure).

That said, my DH (who is 6' 4" tall and 275 pounds) found the seating very cramped.

We are flying Jetblue from Syracuse for our upcoming trip to Orlando. Hoping that the seating will be more comfy for my two big guys. And we're looking forward to having a TV on every seat....that was another strike against Sunwing, with only a drop-down screen every several rows and no choice in what you get to see.....its whatever movie the attendants choose to show (a Disney flick both times in our case).

I've only ever flown Sunwing, love them! We actually did do the Jetblue route for DW out of Syracuse because i found flying out of Ottawa was way to expensive...that was before the deal you mentioned oh well :confused3

Anyway i found them to be great, the staff were friendly and the website was very informative...the only thing i found on my trip to Cuba was that they tended to change flight times without a lot of notice - now that was my very first all inclusive so i was a bit nervous anyway, but i would definately fly sunwing again...

We flew once with Sunwing a few years ago. Overall it was a good experience and great price - on time but early morning flights (pre-7am to MCO, pre-7am DME back to MCO). At the time, on the way down we had to clear US Customs & Immigration at MCO (it was strange because you had to dispose of any drinks, remove shoes, etc after deplaning and prior to "entry" to the USA), but I think this has changed and you now clear in Canada.

We've flown sunwing quite a bit on inclusive trips to Mexico, etc. I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it was fine, smaller planes though I think from what I hear. This trip will be our first flying out of the states, we've always flown out of Toronto or London.

Lot of folks like Sunwimg..but do know, when they have an aircraft 'issue' and delays are incurred?? Often they are quite lengthy!:confused3

Not much of a fleet to pull spares from!

I've taken Sunwing from Toronto to Orland o on 2 different trips and I had nothing but a positive experience both times! They were on time and fed us on the departing and return flights both times. I would fly with Sunwing again. :thumbsup2
