Sunshine states are the happiest, study shows

"quality of schools" doesn't exactly spring to mind when looking at many of those top ten states...

Montana sure is high on the list...

I'm surprised that Texas isn't higher than 15th. People tend to stay put here. I don't think that I'd want to move anywhere else except maybe California (if I was rich), North Carolina or Arkansas. I like some New England states but it's just too cold up there!

Nope, but I guess that school quality does not directly correlate with happiness. I am in Tennessee, my kids go to private school, as do most of the kids I know. Public schools to suck majorly (except for those few diamonds in the rough), but we have some awesome private schools and we love the ones our girls are at. Overall everyone I know here LOVES Tennessee. I could not imagine living anywhere else, honestly!

hehehe

Like I said, it was 78 today, probably going to be that tomorrow.

I am sure the "number 1" state wasn't even near that.

Well the Number 1 State was 74 earlier this week....a cold front did come through and pushed us down to the mid-50s, but it will likely be in the 70s again soon.

I work at a school in the number 1 state and have worked in schools in the number 51 state. The "academic rigor" may have been slightly higher in NYC than here in Louisiana, but the school down here is far more well rounded academically and the kids are far happier overall at school than the children at the schools I worked at in NYC.

Down here, the kids get P.E. everyday, and they rotate through an enrichment schedule of art, music, computers, library, and Spanish. The school I was at in NYC only had art and P.E., and the kids got only one or the other - not both.

Yeah, I see a several states near the top that get LOTS of rain. The sun shines over 300 days a year here in NM with low humidity, no bugs, lots of outdoorsy people who love to hike, camp, bike ride, hang glide, and we're the 3rd fittest state in the country due to the beautiful weather, but we are ranked 24th on this list. Go figure.

I'm guessing in NM the low happiness level has more to do with the high poverty level than the weather. Otherwise I'd bet it would be in the top 10.
