Sunscreen Wipes?

I read a couple of threads (which I now can't seem to find) that some people mentioned these sunscreen wipes. Can anyone tell me where I can find these? Maybe online or a specific store. I'm in PA but I work in NY so either places would be good. TIA

Avon sells sunscreen wipes that are labeled - VERY WATER RESISTANT - they also are bug repellants. SPF15 is the highest sun block though!

Make them yourself! You'll get the SPF of your choice, and they'll cost MUCH less. I like these because the kids can handle them easily, and they manage to avoid their eyes with wipes. Here's how:

Buy a big box of baby wipes (any kind with a box-style lid -- no pop up style), and let the lid stand open a week or so until they're completely dried out.

Remove the wipes from the box, pour in a whole bottle of sunscreen, and mix well with some water (let's say 2/3 sunscreen and 1/3 water).

Put the wipes back in the box, and separate them a bit so that the sunscreen permeates each wipe. Being dry, they'll suck up the liquid sunscreen.

If you need to carry just a few, put them in a ziplock.

Mrs Pete--that is a brilliant idea!! I have bug repellent wipes that I have used on my kids. Hmmm, wonder if I could do the same thing with the Avon bug repellent lotion.

The Avon ones are 5.99 now, if anyone was wondering. :) I haven't tried them myself but they are a big seller.

I use gel sunscreen on my kids faces so it dries fast and doesn't get in their eyes. Bullfrog brand.

For the kids faces I use the Baby Faces sunscreen stick. Works great! Comes in I think 30 or 45 SPF. Easy to get around their eyes and mouth without gettting it IN their eyes or mouth.

Just wanted to thank you all for your responses, at least now I have different choices. I had been using the stick (which was Coppertone Sports and attaches to a keychain, fannypack or belt loop very easily) but I found it to be a little sticky feeling and I didn't want to use it when the humidity was very high. When I read about the wipes I was hoping they would be drier. I am looking for high SPF, I burn very easily. Thanks again for your responses and keep them coming. :cool1:

We found wipes were great, especially for those days when the sun didn't come out til half-way through the day

I burn easily too - Baby Faces 50 - works the best for me.

but in Florida I need to reapply the stuff every hour - now at home it can go 2 hours - but the Florida sun is so much more intense - that every hour was necessary - so bring your sun screen with you.

baby faces 50 is not cheap - comes in a pink bottle - and it won't burn your eyes.

you don't say if you have kids - but if you do - check them - sometimes kids get so excited that they forget to tell you that something is burning them - until they get back to the room and then it is a little too late....

oh also bring :umbrella: and a hat pirate:

the Florida sun can be unbelievable.

Don't forget, you can burn even worse when there is no sun. That hazy cloud cover makes for a gread magnifier of the suns rays :sunny: I've had some of my worst burns when the sun "wasn't out".

I'm not the original poster but thanks for the ideas on where to get the wipes. Those will be great to toss in the backpack.

We used Pampers Sunnies (SPF 30 and waterproof), but I like the idea about drying out a pack of ordinary wipes and putting your own mixture in. How well does it work with water-resistant sunscreens if you have to mix it with water? Is there a problem getting it to emulsify?

While we were in Florida we had record rainfall for the month of March, so the sun was rarely a problem :umbrella: :sad2: , but for those few occasions where we could feel our necks sizzle the wipes were refreshing as well as effective. If it was already sunny when we went out we applied high factor lotion before we went out and used the wipes to top up (lighter and less messy). Also DH used a hair and scalp protector as well as a hat :smooth:
