Sunscreen Tip for Fair-Skinned

The only negative I've found is that this product runs out very, very quickly. We have gone through almost 2 bottles in a month!! Of course, we are out by the pool every single day; and I'm coating 4 or more bodies with it. My 13 yo ds let his buddies try it today. They all liked how it went on. We'll see how they're doing sunburn-wise by the end of the day. 3 of the 4 are very fair-skinned.

In case anyone isn't sure what the continuous spray is here is a link to the coopertone webpage for this product - http://www.coppertone.com/product.aspx?prodid=34

I bought it and really liked it. Sprayed it on before we left for a local theme park at 7am and forgot to bring it with us but no sun burn, expect where they wiped it off for a temp tattoo my DD got.

Ingredients: Homosalate, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Oxybenzone. SD Alcohol 40 (79.6% V/V), Acrylates/OCtylacylamide copolymer, Fragrance.

WE love this stuff. I bought two cans for our trip and have started using it in the past week and a half - goes on so easily and covers well. It does something odd though - it coats my arm hairs and makes them glisten LOL!!! It dries quick which is a big plus. It really takes the hassle out of sunscreening my family and takes a fraction of the time :cool1:

This is our second year using this sunscreen. All of us are blond haired and blue eyed. My DH and DD both tan, by DS and I burn. We used it when we were at WDW in May and none of us were burnt.

Has anyone heard that it's no good after a year? I'd really like to know if that is fact or fiction.

Joyce, in WI where it's been 90+ for the last 3 days!

That's actually a good thing. In order to get the SPF listed on the bottle, you're supposed to rub it in so thick that any more wouldn't be absorbed by your skin. An "average" sized adult should use about 1 oz, so an 8 oz bottle should only last for about 8 applications.

We tried the coppertone continuour spray on my 3 boys, it left us feeling sticky and they actually burned quickly anyway. I like the waterbabies 50 spf lotion. It rubs in well and doesn't leave us feeling unpleasantly sticky. We were camping when I tried the coppertone spray and even with good ventilation it set off my propane detector? :confused3 :confused3 It took hours with the fans running to get the smell out. I would definately suggest only spraying it outdoors. My boys are all fair complected and very blond.

Dh is a red head (as is our DS) and he SWEARS BY the Coppertone Spray. We have yet to try the continuous spray, but he used to use the pump spray with 0 problem. Now this is a guy, who burns by sitting in the backyard for 4 minutes..... :rotfl: We use Water Babies for DS and have had no problems. I also use a stick sunscreen on him (it looks like a bug chap stick) - the stick works great for him.

Sunscreen....don't leave home without it..... ;)

We love the new spray too! No rubbing is so great! FYI, Avon makes a spray that is also a bug repellant (I know there are pros and cons to the dual product...) that we also like. Avon's is only an SPF 15 so it needs to be re-applied if you're out for a while, but application is so easy with this stuff that its not a big deal. I like the Avon for in the yard after work when I want protection from both bugs and the remaining sun for my DS and myself but we're only out for an hour at most.

CleveRocks - I worked at a pharmacy during college and the pharmacists told me the same thing you said about SPF above 30 - marketing, marketing, marketing!

I use Water Babies spf 45, spray for me (a blonde). DH uses Banana Boat spf 50 as he is folically challeged. I prefer the spray because the sunscreen on my hands makes me nuts!

How often do you have to reapply the spray? I'm the problem one in our family, I have a skin condition that gives me big patches of skin that is totally lacking in pigment so I burn very very easily (supposably this is the same condition Michael Jackson has LOL! He's the only one I've heard of that doesn't get it splotchy, hummmm..... :rotfl: ) . I normally wear SPF 50 (now I know that's just a gimick!) so I want to make sure I put enough of this stuff on. Oh and what do you do about your face? All the sunscreens including waterbabies burn my eyes once I start to get hot. TIA!!!!

Thank you for the tip. We just bought it yesterday but haven't had the chance to use it yet! I am hoping it works well for me and my fair children!!! :) Thanks!!!
