Im not a big sunscreen wearer (not fond of the chemicals) but spending a week in the sun in Mexico, I don't want to ruin our vacation with a sunburn. Any recommendations for a good one for adults and kids?

My dermatologist suggested Vichy Laboratories Capital Soleil SPF 60 with Mexoryl XL for Sun Sensitive Skin to me. I burn very easily, and this has worked for me. Remember to reapply after swimming, washing or perspiring profusely.

There was a discussion recently on sunscreens.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2931648&highlight=sunscreen I highlighted this recommendation for you which I found to be very helpful

From someone that has had multiple skin cancers (starting at age 32) and melanoma, I use Coppertone Pure and Simple. It really works well! My children hate sitting still to get sunscreen put on, but we've spent 2 weeks in the Bahama's and Florida in June, then were in the Carib. for 9 days this spring, and nobody gets burned. I've tried everything and it works the best at preventing sunburn, and I like that it doesn't have all those chemicals.

For parts of the face, we do use a stick.

I also reapply about every 45 minutes.

Ahh... Mexico and the sun...:rotfl: The next time we go to Mexico I am going to buy the kids the long sleeve swim shirts that have the sunscreen in them to help with the sun. The sun is SOOOO hot and my DD#1 is so fair that she just gets sooo red! So, I don't know what ages your kids are, but that is what I would recommend to help.

I live in the Northeast and I use sunscreen every day, year-round. Of all of the things I use daily, sunscreen is non-negotiable. I thought most everyone did the same.

It is always interesting to find people who think differently than I do.

We wear sunscreen as little as possible. We wear chemical-free natural sunscreen everyday at Disney, because we are out in full sun all day long.
My kids wear long sleeved spf rash guard swim shirts, the longest spf swim shorts we can find and "fireman" style sunhats with long back brim that covers their neck and wide brim keeping sun off their faces.
It's really a benefit over risk for us. The chemicals and carcinogens in sunscreen are not worth the risk when we can keep them covered or out of the sun...for the most part.

Which sunscreen do you use at Disney?

California Baby, Badger, UV Natural, Soleo. California Baby the most, but there seem to be lots of new chemical-free sunscreens out this year. I might try the Kiss My Face Hydresia SPF 40, this year. It has the low rating on the EWG site and is about half as much as the others. :thumbsup2

half as much might mean nothing if it's half the size. A lot of those brands come in a very small tube for lots of money and they don't last long.

Whatever you decide make sure to buy more than you think you will need!

Sunscreen at the resorts down there is very expensive. We just use a spray sport type. DS's and DH hate the feeling of lotions or creams, so the spray works for them. What costs 6.00 here was 24.00 there!

Whatever kind you use, APPLY EARLY and APPLY OFTEN
Have a GREAT time! WE LOVE MEXICO!!!

For a chemical free, paraben free sunscreen, we love Blue Lizard Sensitive 30+. I find the best deals on either Amazon or Soap.com
Our family just got back from Mexico, and none of us got a burn! We apply first thing in the morning, and after lunch, and it does go a long way as it is a physical barrier sunscreen.

Have fun on your vacation!

I think I will get Coppertone Pure n Simple for the kids, and I will use Alba Botanica for me and DH. They both get a 2 rating on that EWG scale. Not the best, but not the worst either. All I know is I am staying away from the ingredient Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A). That stuff has been known to cause skin cancer!

The sprays are the worst chemical-wise. Not only is your body absorbing harmful chemicals through the skin, you are also breathing it in. It may be doing more harm than good!
