I don't usually use a lot of sunscreen at home (I live in the frozen north, though I know that is no excuse). How much (how many ounces) of sunscreen will I need for my 7 night cruise? Also, has anyone used Blue Lizard sunscreen. I am considering getting that kind and I am trying to decide between regular and sensitive formulas. I am very fair, but not really allergic or sensitive to skin products. Sorry it's a little off topic, but if anyone can help, that would be fantastic!

One large bottle of sunscreen should do a family of 4 for a week of cruising. Get something with an SPF 30 or more, waterproof (yeah, right), and UVA and UVB protection. Reapply every 2-3 hours when you are in the sun (don't believe the stuff about lasting 8 hours.) I usually buy and bring 2 bottles and use one.

The reccomended dosage is at least a shot glass full of sunscreen per person every 4-6 hours, more if in and out of the water.

Sorry if I am being obtuse, but would one 9 ounce bottle be enough or should I get 2? I would be the only one using it. The others in my party are bringing their own.

Buy the highest SPF you can find at the lowest price.

Also, if you are flying, remember to pack the sunscreen in your luggage, because of the restrictions on liquids in carryons now.

If you do not have sensitive skin use the sport or regualr formula - they last much longer - 4 hours in and out of the water - look at reviews- by far the best sunscreen out there at the moment. My family swears by the stuff. I will bring two 9 oz bottles for my vacation - can't bear to run out of the stuff.
Also if we split up we don't have to worry about who takes the sunscreen.

Just FYI...I like the continuous spray sunscreen bottles. They are so easy for me to apply to my back by myself. But they run out very quickly. I usually go through 2-3 times as much as a regular bottle of lotion. The coppertone is great!

After trying numerous sunscreens for various reasons (my daughter has sensistive skin, none of the others worked well, etc) we finally found Blue Lizard sunscreen. WE LOVE IT!

We get ours from drugstore.com as the local stores that do carry it are very expensive.

The best we have found is the stuff in the blue bottle. It's very easy on the skin and has titanium dioxide and zinc in it. It does whiten you a bit but I like that since I know where it is then.

We used this at Castaway Cay this past April. Put it on in the morning, reapplied once after lunch. No burn. No tan.

I'm with thundermountainmomma - get the continuous spray ones. You use more but it is SOOOOO much easier and less messy. Places like target sell house brands now too so you can get $5 cans when the name brands are usually $8.99.

Watch for lotion vs. clear. The lotions you have to rub in. Get the clear. My daughter has almost white skin and we have had no problems with burns using this stuff. It is plenty strong enough.

Also, if you get the spray you still may want some regular lotion or a roll on stick for the face area. If you forget you can always spray your hand and rub on your face.
