I have really fine (read thin) hair and I ALWAYS get a killer sunburn in the part of my hair. Does anyone know of a sunscreen that I can use in that area that won't make my hair look like an oil slick? Yeah, I know that I should just wear a hat, but I look silly in hats. :sad2:

Thanks!

Have you tried the spray sunscreen? I don't know if it would be any better than the regular stuff on your hair, though. You could lift sections of hair and try to spray directly on the scalp.

Hopefully someone else will have a better idea! :)

Like the previous poster mentioned, I use the spray sunscreen and spray it directly where my part is. Be careful to buy a clear spray, and not the ones that spray a mousse. (The newer kids' coppertone sprays do this.) I found a generic drugstore spray that was clear, at Shoppers Drugmart in Canada. I'm sure there are generics in the US too.

:flower: I found some scalp sunblock at walmart and toys r us. It was spf 30, I think. It's supposed to be for babies. You know how they don't have that much hair. Well, it worked like a charm on my part line! I think it was made by water babies?

I read on another post where someone suggested nutragena stick sunblock. I have not tried that, but the poster said it was non-greasy. Years ago I used a spray that was specifically for the scalp. After using it for the a few weeks of the summer, I started to notice big clumps of hair in the drain and on my comb. Stopped using it and the hair stopped coming out.

The brand is called Baby Blanket Scalp Suncreen for babies. I've seen others at Walmart and Stop and shop for adults but I cannot remember the name of it.

Bananna Boat made a hair and scalp sunscreen. It was awesome, but I havent seen it this year.

I use BullFrog brand spray bottle 35 spf. It comes with a lock top spray pump so that it won't accidentally leak in a bag.

It works great for me on my scalp and the rest of my body.

I like the fact that you do not have to rub it into your skin, but just spray it on.

It might be expensive and I haven't looked for it in a while, but Paul Mitchell had some product w/sunscreen in it -- maybe the leave-in conditioner? Not sure what the SPF actually was though and it may be geared more to the hair (and color) than skin. Might be worth a call to a salon...

EEK! I definitely need ALL of the hair that I have so I'll be wary of that stuff.

Thanks to all for your suggestions! I've never seen these products before, but I knew that this was the place to go for tips ... so off to Wally World, I go. :goodvibes

as a completely bald person (for the last 15 years) i gotta say that there isn't a sunscreen that i've found that works. They're too greasy or they sweat off in the heat...nothing better than a nice "gilligan" hat... best thing in the world. I know i look like a doofus, but my head stays unburnt, and i'm at disney, so i don't care what anybody thinks about how goofy i look...and besides, no matter what hat i wear (my fave currently being an animal kingdom hat!) i still look less goofy than those weirdos in the black socks with sandals!

lol - I want to call you "Bald and Proud"! I just heard of another person who lets the characters sign their hat instead of an autograph book. So this is my new plan...I'll wear my white DLC baseball cap and I'll let the characters sign it :goodvibes So maybe I'll look less dorky :bitelip:

"bald and proud" pretty much sums it up. i'm no longer ashamed at my beautiful head!

i have seen many people (of all ages) who have their hats or shirts signed by the characters. We plan to do the hat signing for our nephew as soon as he's old enough to go to WDW with us!

Have fun with your hat...and be proud of however you look! Trust me..there will ALWAYS be someone who looks goofier than you! (esp at WDW!) :teeth:

I vote for the hat! Whenever I use scalp spray on my little boys, their hair gets so greasy. It takes two or three hair washes just to get all of the gunk off of their hair. Yuck! BTW I bought the baby scalp spray from Toys 'R Us in the summer section, but would not recommend it due to the grease factor...

Try Redken UV Rescue Daily Sun Milk. It is a spray leave in conditioner. It contains SPF 12 and prevents your hair from drying out and your scalp from burning. I found this at the Smartstyle Salon in my local Walmart.

I normally would not wear a hat but I have had a sunburn on my scalp before when I was a teenager at Disney World. I didn't know why my head was sore until my friend said "you have a sunburn on your scalp!" So now I will wear a hat at Disney World. . . like someone else said you can't look goofy in a Disney hat at Disney World. I have even taken to wearing them at home when I don't feel like doing my hair. I wear my purple Red Sox hat to my son's baseball games and it has saved me from getting several sunburns. The one day I didn't wear one, my forehead ended up getting sunburned and was bright red for several days! I think a hat is the best way to go but I used to use sunscreen for my very blonde and mostly bald babies when they were little and it did work but was greasy. I imagine most of the newer spray in sunscreens are better. I saw some Disney spray in sunscreen at Wal-Mart made by No-Ad the other day and picked some up for my DD with Ariel on it. :earsgirl:

I used to use a brand years ago that had sunscreen(Graham Webb). I did a search on google and some different brands came up. I'm not sure what stores would carry it.

I emailed Coppertone about the scalp sunscreen and this is what they said....

""Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate the opportunity
to provide you with the following information.

We recommend using our Coppertone Sport Spray SPF 30 for use on the scalp.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Schering-Plough HealthCare
Products.

Sincerely,
Coppertone Consumer Relations""

I already have the Sport Spray, but haven't tried it on our scalps yet. It does say that it is ultra sweatproof, ultra dry formula and waterproof.

I'm the Neutrogena wax stick fan; it really works for all face/ears/part-in-the-hair coverage, and it does NOT run into your eyes and sting when you sweat.
I do know bald people who use it and are very happy with it, but on a large area you have to apply it sort of carefully so that you don't miss any spots.

Sport Spray works great on hair if you like a wet/tousled look, because it acts like super-strong hairspray. I use it at the beach when I just want to push my hair back; I spray it on and then finger comb-it while the spray is still wet, because once it dries it ain't moving. The Sport Spray will not look too great if you have a softer hairstyle, because your hair will not move once the sunscreen has frozen it in place. Also, it will pretty much be impossible to brush until you wash out the sunscreen with shampoo, as it sticks the strands together.
