Can anyone recommend a good sunscreen for babies? DS will be almost 6 months when we go to WDW in April. He is very fair and his skin seems very sensitive. I use Water Babies on my older kids, but my pediatrician suggested I use something with titanium or zinc oxide for the baby. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

My son will be 5 months when we go, and my ped. advised me he is to young to use any. I have heard of reactions to it. Just be careful, & have a great vacation.

The is a form of water babies called spectrum (I think) that includes the two items that you are looking for. I have used it for the last 2 summers and I really like it.

Please keep in mind that in no way do I want to contradict what your pediatrician says. Follow his/her advice. With that said we used water babies on our DD since she was about 4 or 5 months old. She also has very fair skin. Our pediatrician suggested as a first application using a small amount of the sunscreen of choice somewhere on her body (like the lower leg) and see if she reacts to it. Obviously, you'll want to do this while inside. Hope this helps.

Our pediatrician always recommends using sunscreen, even on the little ones.
We took dd to Disney at 4 mos. and he suggested we use the Aveeno Baby sunscreen. With her, as well as ds when he was her age, I simply applied a little bit just to ensure they were protected.
I also have a few friends who have used the Arbonne line with their very young ones and have liked it. (Just gets pricey.)
Good luck!

My pedi told me not to use sunscreen until they are at least 1. With that being said I have heard of people ordering blue dolphin (I beleive) off the internet. It is supposedly good for young ones. I have never tried it just heard about it.

We used Aveeno baby on our son when he was 6 months old and had no problems with it. I tried the Mustela version and although it worked it smelled awful! We're happy with the Aveeno and will continue to use it.

There is a sunscreen called total block that is safe for babies. It contains zinc and titanium dioxide. It doews not have and chemicals so it is safe for babies and children with exzema. I got the recomendation from a dermotologist. Here is the website.. skincarerx.com/total-block.html The only draw back is that it is kind of expensive.

All 3 of my girls have VERY sensitive skin..we use Blue Lizard sunscreen(they all had bad reactions to water babies)... It is awesome..we used it all last summer and didn't have even 1 bit of sunburn (even if i forgot to re apply)here is a link to the website .. http://www.crownlaboratories.com/bluelizard/products.html

It is a bit expensive, but you can't put a price on sun protection.
I have a friend that has twins..they are VERY light skinned red heads...they were always burning..they started using this at the end of summer last year and never had a problem after. We also like the fact that its not loaded with chemicals...Good Luck!

We use neutrogena sunscreen. It works and my DD usually breaks out from anything else. $$$$$ is the downside.

BTW, the AAP rescinded their "no sunblock for babies under 6 months" recommendation in 1999. Caution is still urged, of course.

A ped that still says never use any at all is a bit behind the times.

I learned my lesson the hard way & have used sunscreen on my kids when they were infants.

We were up in Maine & my oldest was 6 weeks old, this was Father's Day weekend 2001. I didn't put sunscreen on her because she was young & I wasn't supposed to. I kept her covered, or so I thought. The sun went thru the tent & she got a burn. Since then I used sunscreen on my kids.

And I use Neutrigena for sensitive skin. My ds's dermatologist recommended it. I used the non-waterproof one on his face since that is the one he liked (but if you use it & sweat it will turn you white) & now I use the waterproof ones.

Do they make a baby sunscreen? Or are you using the adult sensitive skin shown on this link? http://www.neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_87.asp?lProductLineID=15 Please advise, thanks.

Many sunscreens claim UVA/UVB protection but the amount of each of those types of protection varies and quite frankly, can be surprisingly low for the UVB (i think). Blue Lizard is awesome and protects well for both types of light. Other sunscreens...like Water Babies will prevent the burn but do very little to protect from the cancer causing rays. It's worth every penny.

This is what I plan on using when we go. I think it is a SPF of 50. We have used it in the past with my other 2 kids and loved it! My DS will be 14 months old this September.

When you are looking at these "baby" sunscreens, remember that water proofing chemicals can be harmful - there is a difference between water resistant and water proof. You can check the ingredient safety on ewg.org. Of course I am partial to Arbonne, because it is safe and has natural ingredients, but there are other naturals out there.

While the retail price can be on the high end, if you check with your consultant, you can get wholesale prices - no substitute for the best results and safe ingredients!

I just purchased this on your recommendation. I am extremely protective of my 5 month old son. Dr told me no sunscreen but I want to have the right one on hand for when I need it. I tried to find it on EWG but I did not see it.
Thanks for the tip.
