Sunrise Safari

We stayed AKL concierge 4 years ago and did the Sunrise Safari. The breakfast buffet at Tusker House was amazing. I just read that the breakfast is now at Pizzafari. Is there anyone who has been on the safari since the restaurant change? If so, how was it?

Fabulous! We've done the SS when the breakfast was at Tusker and also twice since the move to Pizzafari. It's the same great food; only difference is the private room in Pizzafari is larger and much more comfortable than the school room at Tusker House was!

That's good to know because we'll be doing Sunrise Safari again in another month. I didn't know they had a change of venue for breakfast.

I was on it at the end of June. It was awesome. We got a woman who is a manager of the savannah, she had been on Africian safaris, she was great!

We did it in May for the first time, nothing to compare it to. It was just wonderful! It was the highlight of our trip! The food was just awesome! We are scheduled again for next May, I hope to do the Safari again.

Did the Safari in April, was one of the best tours at WDW.

Ours in March was perhaps the best buffet we have had anywhere in Disney! Loved it and hope to get to do it again if this new booking policy allows us to ever do concierge again.

My DH thought the old breakfast had a few more African style dishes than the breakfast at Pizzafari. But he still thought it was a geat breakfast as did I.

We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet at Pizzafari after the Sunrise Safari. I'm a poet and don't know it.

Wide variety of danish, bagels, muffins, french toast, banana french toast, omelet casserole dish, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, coffee, teas, orange juice, a juice blend (very yummy), etc. Too bad I wasn't more hungry

Pictures from our April 2008 SUNRISE SAFARI Breakfast @ Pizzafari:

Wow! Your buffet looks much better than the one we had and we also did the safari in April. Our buffet was very meat-centric. They had four kinds of meat (ham, bacon, two kinds of sausage), scrambled eggs with meat, an omelet with meat, and the fruit bowl also contained meat. DH and I are vegetarians so that left us with potatoes and pastries as the only meat-free items. Well to be fair, there was no meat in the orange juice or coffee as far as I could tell!

The chef fixed us a veggie omelet (thanks to the woman in AKV Concierge who thought it best to call them and let them know we were coming). It was dry and not very tasty but we were very hungry and it was good to have something other than carbs. We did pick out some fruit from the middle of the fruit bowl that was furthest away from the meat but I have to say as a vegetarian, meat in the fruit bowl was really disappointing! Why put meat in everything?

I am constantly surprised that a park that caters to animal lovers offers the worst food choices for vegetarians, many of whom choose to be vegetarians because they love animals! Thank goodness for the new buffet at Tusker House! It's expensive but at least we finally have a place to get good food in AK.

That's just not right, putting meat in the fruit bowl.

We did the Sunrise Safari again last month - same varied menu (I just didn't take any pictures!), but you're right -- definitely not a lot of choices for vegetarians.

And I agree with you on Tusker House's buffet. My family loves it!

Can anyone please provide some additional info about the Sunrise safari? I know this sounds like a dumb question (but I have no one/where else to ask and I really want to know) how is the safari different from say the regular safari ride? I assume it goes down some different path?

We are recent DVC buyers and have only been to WDW once but I'm considering this for our next trip since there's so much good buzz about it.

It does take the same path as the ride - without the storyline; and since this safari is before the park is officially open, they take their time and make frequent stops for pictures. The guides are very informative and also answer any questions.

Last safari (several weeks ago) we got to see a Pelican feeding - which is something they do early in the morning. Let me just say, my DD14 thought that was the greatest thing!!! (you had to see it to believe it!) Also, the Okapi were right down by the road so we were literally feet away from them - they're usually up the hill by the fence or hiding in the brush.

Here are several pictures from our most recent safari. (and if I can give you one tip, it would be make sure your camera battery is fully charged - mine wasn't! )

Do I think it's worth it? Absolutely - we are planning our 4th Sunrise Safari!

Wow you got some great photos! And thanks for the explanation/info! And I had to laugh about not having a fully charged battery, first time we went on the ride we realized our battery was fully empty!

It has been the highlight of our trips! We had a wonderful time, the truck stopped numerous times for us to take wonderful pictures of the animals. Our breakfast was wonderful. I called Don yesterday to see what day I had to call on to book it again. I do not want to miss it. I made the mistake of eating some food in the Concierge Lounge, I won't do this again.

Sunrise Safari pics from this morning!

These are some pics from our August 3 safari. It was amazing and we would definitely book it again!

We thought the breakfast was nice - good variety. I did not notice any meat in the fruit tray. The only drawback to the breakfast was that we didn't finish until close to 10 AM, so you do not get a jump on park touring. Plan accordingly!
