SunPass/E-Pass question

I've had a Sunpass for a few years (the portable one), in addition to my NH EZ-pass. I registered my car to the Sunpass but it's never actually been used with it. I've only ever used it in rentals. Once I get to my rental car I log into my Sunpass account from my phone, enter the rental car info, including my intended rental end time, and I leave. It's a 2-3 minute process that saves me money and hassle. I'm not familiar with the Uni, because I already have the Sunpass and the Uni sounds new.

Uni is from a different FL Toll Authority (the Central FL Expressway Authority). SunPass is from the FL Department of Transportation (FDOT). The advantage Uni has over SunPass is that Uni also works anywhere E-ZPass is accepted (like in NH). The current SunPass transponders are not E-ZPass compatible.

local here - I have sunpass, I use it on all toll roads here in FL.., even use my sunpass Georgia, work just like the GA peachpass... We just got back from NC, and we used both ways in GA and in Fl... sometimes it takes longer for the tolls to show up, in your account...

Question. family are from NY and have EZ Pass up there. They are planning on flying to MCO and renting a car from Alamo for a week. In that time they will be going to OKW, to the Shrine for mass, grocery store and maybe ride over to Disney Springs. When they leave they will be going to visit friends for a few days near Tampa. Then returning car and flying back home from MCO. With all that driving what can I suggest they do for the tolls? Sounds like the "uni" might be a good option as long as they link it to the rental car and then it would link to their ez pass? IS the UNI a "unit" or do they have to bring their EZ Pass transponder?? Thank you!

The UNI is a transponder, the part they put on the windshield. It will not link to their EZ-Pass account, it will have it's own account from Florida. It will work anywhere their EZ-Pass works, so if they wanted to they could just use the UNI if they bring it home. With the rental being from Alamo, and how little they plan on driving on the toll roads, I would suggest they either pay cash at the toll booths or pay Alamo the 3.95/day convenience fee on the days they use the toll roads. Alamo isn't like some of the other companies and Alamo only charges the fee on days you incur toll charges.

The NY E-ZPass will (currently) work on about 1/2 of the toll roads in the Orlando Area. There is a route between MCO and WDW which the NY E-ZPass is accepted at all toll plazas. Take the South Exit out of MCO to SR-417. Head South on SR-417 and then take Exit 6 (International Dr/World Center Dr). The other tolls in Central FL are supposed to accept E-ZPass soon, but an exact start date has not been announced.

As far as the Tampa area, there are far fewer tolls roads (which don't yet accept E-ZPass) so it's easier to get around without needing to use a toll road.

If they stick with 417 to and from the airport and exit at I-Drive as PP said, it sounds like the only toll point they'll encounter that doesn't accept E-Zpass is on the drive from Tampa to MCO, shortly after transitioning from I-4 to 417. So they could just pay cash or use Alamo's program for that one, and try to avoid other toll roads in Tampa and on their jaunts around Orlando.
