I am in my BIL's wedding at the end of the month and am wearing a strapless gown. I need to get rid of tan lines and was thinking of trying a sunless tanner. Can anyone recommend a good one? I don't want to be orangey or streaky!

DW uses Clinique's tanning lotion -- it's worked pretty well for her (she has strict orders from the doc for her to get NO sun, so it's her only chance to not look like a ghost :) )

More important than the brand of tanner....

Exfoliate thoroughly before using.

And if you're worried about streaking, and don't mind paying a bit more, check to see if they have Mystic Tan at a salon near you:

This summer I've been using Lancome's Foaming Tanning Mousse and LOVE it!

How long do these things last (meaning, how often do you have to apply)? The good ones, I mean, like Lancome......

Bet, how much more? And have you ever actually seen someone with it? The other night, I tried Bath & Body Works Sunless Tanner, and I'm amazed I ended up with streaks on my legs (I only did my legs...they're WHITE), and I had done major exfoliating. I'm heading to Florida in a few days and would really like to do something about that.

I used avon's sunless tanner and it works great. It was the first one I've tried that didn't leave me orange.

Adrianna, I usually use it for three consecutive days and then every other day to maintain.

I think the days of orange self-tanners are over, and I’ve found the drug store brands to be just as effective as the department store brands. I’ve tried Coppertone and Banana Boat and they were fine.

I've used Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray on my legs every summer for YEARS. It absolutely NEVER streaks. The key is to exfoliate before using it and to be sure you rub it in both ways, vertically and horizontally to cover all areas. I use the light/medium and it looks very natural. Dries quickly too, even faster if you stand in front of a fan. :)

For your upper body you will need someone to help you apply it to your back.

It lasts about 3-4 days before it starts fading, I usually only re-do it once a week or so. Right now I have a "real" tan from being in Hawaii so I haven't used it in a while but that's fading so the Neutrogena will be coming out soon...as long as it is shorts weather. :)

Oh sure Michelle, just rub it in why don't ya!;)

Mare,

I have done the Mystic Tan and while it's not as natural looking as "the real thing" it's much better than my attempts to use the self-tanner, and I got compliments on how "healthy" I looked after I had done it.

The salon I go to has several different shades, just like the creams do. I think the darker you try to get from your natural coloring, the more fake and orangey it looks.

The best thing about Mystic tan is that it doesn't streak, and it's "all over" coverage.

The cost here is about $25.00 per application....most places have packages that bring that down to about $20.00 per.

Oh, thank you Bet! I'll give the local salon that does it a call. :D
