Sunless tanner tips needed!

I am very fair-skinned, which I'm accustomed to, but I never like how white I look in our Disney pics. After turning orange and having to wear long-sleeved shirts and pants for days in warm weather in jr high school, I have decided to brave sunless tanners again for our trip and have some questions!

I have read that a lot of women use it just on their legs, and I'm wondering, can't you notice a difference between your lower and upper body? I feel like I need to do legs, arms, upper chest and face! My arms and face have a tiny bit more color (if you can call it that!), but my chest and neck are as white as my legs.

Can anyone explain?

I'm a huge fan of spray tans. Unless you already have color do not use only a bronzed or light dusting of spray on your legs as it will definitely be noticeable.

I highly suggest going to a salon and get airbrush spray tanned, do not do mystic tan (I've never had a good experience with it) first. They will custom blend a formula for you based off of your skin tone and how dark you want to be. Spray tanning has come a long way and I've never been turned the shade of an Oompa Loompa in about 5 years) :)

After you get professionally spray tanned you can keep it up at home by using top quality spray tans (my favs are by ModelCo and St Tropez....my most favorite is BYS Island Bronze Spray but I have to order that from a diff country). However, it's harder to get an even application when you're pale. At least it is for me and I use spray tans year round! Good lock

When I used sunless tanning lotion, I used it all over my body - but not on my face. I think they sell ones specifically for the face and even with that, it was a bit irritating. My tip is don't use too much. I kept trying to get darker and got orange. Wash your hands after application. If I had used it as directed, I think it would have been fine. Good luck. :goodvibes

Being very fair...okay white....I've used them as well. Usually it's further on in the season so I only do my legs, since my chest and arms already have a bit of colour!
We are headed down in March, and I'll be vampire white all over, so I'll definitely have to do something!
I usually use neutragena I think...It's available for different skin tones and looks a little more natural.

Hmmm..sounds like I might need to look into a spray tan. I think I will have to do it twice, though--once in advance to make sure I don't look orange and once closer to my trip!

I'm fairly pale too but I like a spray tan and then top it up with a sunless tanner. A great tip I heard once is to mix your normal moisturiser with the sunless tanner - smells better and also gives a more subtle result. Remember to wash your palms!

I'm of British heritage which = milky white. I've used just about every self tanner out there. My absolute favourite is the L'oreal Sublime bronze. I get the tinted one in medium. They also have a pre-tan product that is an exfoliator. With any product the key is to exfoliate very well prior to application. I will exfoliate 2 days in a row before I apply the tanner. Then I apply a light amount for 2 or 3 days to get the colour I want. I find that by doing it in lighter amounts it is easier to get good coverage without any streaks or blotches. Lastly, you need to wash your hand very, very well or else you are going to get stains on your hands.....wash up to the wrist as well.

Funny, I picked up L'Oreal Sublime Bronze in medium a couple days ago. Glad to hear good things about it! I had wanted to get it in light but I didn't see it. I don't know if they were out or don't make that shade. I will def exfoliate, mix w/ moisturizer and wash my hands. :)

I've had years of success with either L'oreal or Bananna Boat tanners--whichever is on sale:lmao:My "secret" is to mix half/half with my regular body lotion and start application 10 days prior to the occasion/event/trip/etc. The color builds slowly everywhere. Take care to wash hands after each application. I use a bit with my face moisturizer too. I've never tried spray tans, but a co-worker says they work for her. Not sure how pool time effects the spray tan though, if you plan on spending alot of time in the water. I'm currently doing this routine to keep some of the color we got in December at WDW. We lucked out and had 80 degree days with perfect weather the entire week. I'm just not ready to go back to my Illinois winter-white;)

Thanks for all the good suggestions! I think I'm going to see how the L'Oreal does for my legs since it's pants season and I have enough time before I go to see if it will work for me. I kind of don't want to spend the $$ on airbrush tanning because I'd need to do it twice--once to see how it looks far enough in advance to fade out if I look orange :lmao: and if it does work out, again closer to our trip.

I am a big fan of the Jergens moisturizer with the self tanner in it... Just apply every day for a few days before and during your vacation! It looks natural and is another reason to remember to moisturize. Give it a shot!

Oh, I may look into that. Thanks for the suggestion!

That is what I use too. I'm very pale, and it gives me a bit of a glow. :thumbsup2

I agree. My family and I went to Disney World 3 years ago now and I too am of the vampire white complexion. A few weeks before leaving I used the Jergens moisturizer with tanner and loved it. It's gradual and if used correctly won't turn you orange. We are returning to Disney World in April and I will be picking up my supply very soon.

Ok, I'm convinced. The Jergens is going on the shopping list! :thumbsup2

I've used that too as well as several others like it. For me it's just OK. I prefer the tinted sublime bronze. I got a fabulous deal on the L'oreal mosturizer w/self tanner and use that as a maintence for in between doing the whole exfoliate/tanner application thing.

My skin is basically transparent and i began using self tanners 15 years ago and have tried them all! I have 2 items that have become a huge part of my life:
Loreal sublime one day Bronzer and Sally Hansen airbrush legs. The reason I like these is primarily because they are really quick and convenient, don't have an odor and it's impossible to mess up. They are not necessarily good for splash mt though. using self tanners was such an ordeal and I could never apply evenly so I looked ridiculous! And my DH said I smelled like dirty socks after applying!
When I go to Disney or vacation I do spray tan. It's very even and actually not orange at all. I use the sublime on my feet when I wear flats with jeans too.

I just recently got married and didn't want to look very pale in my pictures. I used the Jergens natural glow product and loved the outcome I had with it. I thought I would have to use it for weeks before hand but i noticed a change within a few days. So I would do what you said and just try it out during the "jean" weather and see how quickly it works for you! :thumbsup2

I am curious about the spray tan. If you go swimming, does it wash off? For those of you who have had a professional spray tan, what are the downsides? does it get on your clothes for instance? I have no idea, and I am curious b/c my hubby mentioned that I should do a spray tan for our cruise.

The spray tan stays on for several days, but there is usually a "bronzer" mixed in with the spray so you get instant results. The bronzer can rub off on your clothes/white bra when you first get dressed. The bronzer will wash off, however so don't be alarmed when you take your first shower the water will run brown - definitely shower before swimming after you get it done.
The down side really is the actual act of getting sprayed! It's a little unnerving when it blasts you in the face... Also, i had to do all these charlie's angels type poses!
