Sunglasses question

This may seem like a strange question! In the past I have always worn contacts but am having to wear them for shorter times these days (old age!) so will be wearing my glasses in the parks sometimes . I am very shortsighted and getting a pair of prescription sunglasses is not really an option for me, also I can't seem to find any good clip on sunglasses. We will be there in May/June and I know the sun is strong although I've not been there at that time before. Does anybody here manage without sunglasses (say with a baseball cap with large peak?) or is it too bright for that ? Any advice welcome!! Will be at WDW in 8 weeks - hurray!!!

My eyes are very light sensitive and I have worn prescription sunglasses for years. I recommend the same. Not quite sure why they are not an option for you. Are they not available in bi-focal?

Nope perscription sunglasses are definately avaliable in bi-focal, since I've had bi-focal's since I was 3 and have had perscription sunglasses since I was about 18.

To answer the original question, I am sure you can do without sunglasses, but it isn't something I would want to try. My glasses have the lenses that change into sunglasses in the sun and then back to clear lenses when you go inside. I love them and highly suggest getting them if possible since then you don't have to worry about changing glasses. My husband has clip ons, and if you can't find any, have you checked at your local optical store? They tend to have a lot more choices then general stores.

Have you had your glasses for very long, ie would you concider new frames? The last two pairs of glasses I have had have come with a pair of magnetic clip on sunglasses. That would let you have the bifocals on the regular glasses, then bifocal sunglasses if necessary. THe frames are very stylish also.

Try WalMart. They have a nice selection of clip on sunglasses. I gotten two pair for prescription glasses and they work great.

My mom has these adorable bi focal sunglasses that she takes with her everywhere. She got them at Filene's (we are in the Northeast). Her favorite thing is that she can lay by the pool and read her book and no one has to see the bifocal. Then she can go about her merry way and the bi focal isn't affecting her vision because it's out of the way.

I wear glasses 24/7 and I carry sunglasses (no prescription but don't tell my dr. that) and carry my glasses in a case in my bag. It's annoying to have to change every time you go in and out of rides, but once I forgot my sunglasses and it was horrible.

If for some reason the perscription sunglasses really are not an option, I would definately look in to getting some clip ons. If you can't find any that fit your frames at places like Walmart and Target, you may need to step it up to somewhere like Sunglass Hut or another specialty place.

I actually had to buy clip ons at the airport in Orlando when we arrived our last trip. Dummy me left the perscriptions in the car back in Baltimore (it was 4am, no sun, so I wasn't really thinking about them). The nice lady in the store took my glasses and found a pair of clip ons that fit perfectly! I was amazed. It cost me nearly $40, but I never would have been able to survive the trip without them, so it was worth it.

How about getting a new pair of regular glasses that have clip ons (or magnetic type) that come with them. Extra expense, yes, but you may find it worth it in the long run. Just be careful if you get the magnetic kind. You wouldn't want to get them too close to your park tickets, among other items...

I don't wear glasses, so I can't help on that front, but I could not manage going without sunglasses at the parks..... I have tried hats and visors, but they just dont do it for me!

As we speak my sunglasses are on the top of my head which is pretty much where they are every day. I even put them on when I just walk outside to let the dogs out, etc.

I don't bother with sunglasses. Ther are maybe a few times where I wish I had them - coming from a dark ride into the sun - but really, I found them to be more of a hassle than a help. At every ride you'll have to take them off. Don't forget, and leave them in the basket at the ride. Don't drop them in a crowd - or they'll get stepped on. Don't leave them on top of your head by accident, or they will fall off during the ride.

A hat, if you feel you must have some eye protection -will also protect the top of your head from the sun. I think a baseball cap would work well in that regard, but again, you'll have to worry about keeping track of it. At least if you lose a hat, you won't be out more than a few dollars! (Plus, there are lots of places at WDW to buy a new one!)

If you are traveling with small kids, you'll have enough other gear to worry about.

My motto at WDW is, the less you have to carry, the better! The less items you have to slow you down, the better!

I cant cope without sunglasses, and also have the light sensitive glasses which I wear all the time - they are great at Disney.

I do know people who do cope with a baseball cap and glasses however, I just cant do that. I suppose it depends how sensitive your eyes are. Mine are super sensitive to the light.

I used to wear glasses (never contacts) til last summer (had LASIK) and I neve had sunglasses. I always got a visor (hate hats, too) and wore that when at WDW. I started wearing glasses in 4th grade and NEVER had sunglasses, so I was used to bright sun.

Now, since my surgery, I wear sunglasses!

I wear prescription bi focal glasses everyday and usually do not wear sunglasses. One of the places I can not go without sunglasses is Disney. Very bright with reflection off the pavement, especially Epcot. I got myself a pair of photo gray(old name for them) glasses that change as you go in and out of the sun. Greatest investment I have made for my Disney trips.

If you can afford new frames, I'd highly recommend the new ones withthe magnetic sunglasses. They scost a bit more than the traditional frames, but much less than two pair of glasses would have been. It comes with what looks like clip-ons with no clips, there are magnets in the sungalsses that stick to a specila spot on the regular frames. They look really good as well.

Thanks for all the advice. The reason prescription sunglasses are not an option at the moment is that because I'm so shortsighted, I need to pay extra for thinner lenses to avoid my glasses being literally like milk bottle bottoms! Here in the UK, glasses cost a lot more than the USA - my last pair (quite recent) cost me £340 (around $500 I guess), and that is not unusual, so I can't afford the same for sunglasses. Anyway, I will continue looking for some clip ons, even if I can't get a perfect fit they would probably make a difference. Thanks!

My husband can't stand to wear his contacts all day. So he wears them in the morning and brings his glasses and contact case with him to the park. Once he can't take it anymore he switches to his glasses. If it's still really sunny he just wears a hat to block the sun. Maybe just try and wear your contacts during the brightest part of the day. Then when the sun goes down put your glasses on.
