sundown mingle at AKV?

We arrive August 16th but have not received anything yet :confused3

Seems like we are hit and miss with DVC emails.

We joined in July 2011. We received a few emails (banking deadline reminder, update on Claire Bilby hiring, the 20th anniversary offer). However we did not receive either email about the discounted cruise offers for DVC members, and so far haven't received this AKL one.

Hi All,

The Sundown Mingle is basically a get-together for DVC members. No they didn't have any presentations, and weren't pitching to anyone.

We got wrist bands to enter the lounge area (the left side circular porch) and there were cold drink choices (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and little hot appetizers. For example a veggie samosa and pork samosa and little crab-cake balls. Drinks were tea, water, punch (non-alcoholic) and punch with punch (rum-based).

After having a little while to eat/drink, there was a game to help break the ice - Mingle and then a gift card drawing.

Did people bring kids? Yes. It was fine. Most attendees were adults, naturally - maybe kids would be bored, but they were welcome, and the ones there seemed to be content, as there were drinks and food. Although not food geared necessarily to kids' tastes.

It was a nice thing for members, and it was in good spirits. Would we do it again? Sure, it was nice for DVC to show appreciation to its members, which is how I interpreted the event. It was not at all like the Atlantic Dance Hall thing or the Top of the Tower presentation.

Just my $0.02.

Thank you VB! This sounds a bit like the "Happy Hour" my parent's camping club would have on the first night as folk pulled in. We kids would run off & play with each other (maybe sneak some food) while the adults just enjoyed each other's company.

Thinking my 18yo DD and I may attend after all. It would be fun to meet other DVC members. I'm positive my 15yo ds would just rather go hang out at Everest.

Sounds real nice. Thanks for the review! I'm going to be solo at Jambo in a few weeks. I haven't gotten my invitation yet, but I'd better. Because this sounds like something I'd like to do.

Hi TB and Simba's Mom,

I think you'd have a nice time. Since it is just beginning, it is not crammed with people, so it is fun. There were peeps of all ages -from itsy-bitsy (a beautiful 7 month old) to the upper range of age and wisdom. All very friendly.

If you're shy, it's a bit more challenging to meet people, but I am trying to get out of my shell, so I tried my best to "Mingle". I think the cast members were really trying hard to facilitate the mingling with their games (guess the character, Disney trivia, etc.), and that made it nice too.

It would be fun to know whether anyone else was addicted to reading the Dis-boards, like me, but I didn't ask!
 :rotfl:

Thinking about going with DH, DS(7), and DS(11). They said there are things for the kids to do...
