i accidently fell asleep in the sun and now seem to be wearin a extremly painful sunburn suit :sad2: anyone know any tips to cool it down *** it hurts so much :confused3

Hey, I live in the southern United States, we are experts at treating sunburn down here:rotfl:. Here are some common home remedies that do work:

1. take a cool bath with 2-3 cups white or apple cider vinegar added, soak 30 minutes
2. soak small towels in vinegar and apply directly to sunburn
3. the tannic acid in tea also seems to help. Steep a large pot of very strong tea using 4-6 tea bags, cool in fridge, soak some small towels in the tea and apply to burned area (it will stain the towels, so use old ones)
4. apply milk to area or better yet soak in a bath with cool water to which you have added a gallon of milk, soak for 30 minutes
5. aloe vera
6. a cool bath with 2 cups of oatmeal added and soak for 30 minutes
7. a cool bath to which 1-2 cups baking soda has been added, soak for 30 minutes
8. grate cucumber and mix with milk and apply to burned areas

wow and ive never herd of any of them thing!! thanks im in sooo much pain x

Rub pure aloe vera on every half hour and by the end of the day you will be feeling a whole lot better. You should also be drinking a lot of water. You need to rehydrate your skin.

Also taking some Motrin, Advil or Ibuprofen (all the same drug) will help with the pain and inflammation, internally.

Believe it or not, Noxema, the face wash stuff, really helps with the pain. I am darn near albino and think every year that I am going to get a tan. I end up looking like Sebastian. Oh well......

yeaa same here im also so white i never tan part frm my hands and feet haha so weird  <me with my sunburnt face haha

I agree with the Noxema.

If your skin however is too painful to touch there is a spray on topical anesthetic called dermaplast which is really helpful. Spray it on then apply the noxema or aloe vera, which have other healing properties.

I swear by the ibuprofin and baths, especially in the first 24 hours.

Another thing to help with healing, after the first 24 hours, the fluid from vitamin E pills (just break them open and spread it on).

One more thing -- the skin is damaged and you want to prevent further damage: more sun exposure is the worst thing you could do, since at that point it will have a cumulative effect.

take ibuporphen for the pain and swelling. dab milk of magnesia on the sunburn with a cotton ball. This has always worked the best for my family of snow white people.

i like that thats what i am ..snow white :cloud9:

They (Banana Boat and a few others) make an aloe vera gel with Lidocaine in it for sunburns - keep it in the fridge and slather it on while cold. The aloe moisturizes and helps with the "tightness" and the Lidocaine numbs the pain away. You can find it in the same area of the store as the sunblock.

Hawaiian Tropics (I believe) sells an after sunburn aloe gel with lidocaine in it. Works WONDERS for sunburn.

I use ibuprofen and Solarcaine spray (it has lidocaine and aloe). If you use the Solarcaine, make sure it is dry before putting on clothes or getting into bed.... if not you will find your sunburned skin stuck to the clothes/sheets and it isn't fun peeling them off. :headache:

Solarcaine has saved me a few good times! I also take Advil if I am in a lot of pain. :thumbsup2

As someone that thought it would be cute to "lay out" 45 min on each side (and I'm extremely fair skinned).........it was NOT cute when I passed out from walking back into the hosue.

I was 20 years old...and that was 17 yrs ago. My sunburn was actually sun poison. Are you running a fever? I had blisters and you could see my "healing sunburn" for 6 months. I pray you aren't that bad.

I totally agree with everyone's suggestion. Do not wear excessive clothing. try to sleep in all cotton (light weight) gowns only while you sleep - the less you have against your skin the less you will irritate yourself.

If you "itch" - take a benadryl. Do not scratch as again you are probably suffering from pain already.

I love solacaine (sp) and I am 100% firm believer in using aloe vera cold from the fridge (very soothing). Also do what the others said - increase your water by probably double your normal intake.

Hugs to you....I have felt your pain and I am so sorry you got sunburned! Here is wishing that you heal quickly!
