Okay, I have the sea safe for the sea lice and regular sunblock for other times, but I have read that you should also have sunblock for your scalp? Never thought about that. My DD probably would burn. What do you use? Does it make your hair greasy? Is there a better kind and where do I get it. Sorry for the stupid questions, but I never considered this before. Thanks!

We like either the bullfrog one or the Hawaiian tropic one! Doesnt seem to make hair greasy but it is so nice to not have scalps burned for the trip..washing hair is miserable with burned scalp especially with kids!

We buy ours at a local drug store and usually places like Walgreens or Eckerdt have it with the rest of their sunblock

I don't know about the scalp sunblock (I wear a hat), but you may want to consider getting sunblock with bug repellant. I once got my legs totally chewed up by some type of insect...I suspect it was sand fleas. That only happened once out of 37 cruises, but it was miserable because my legs were full of giant, disgusting-looking welts. I have allergies, so I suspect there was some sort of allergic reaction compounding matters. Ever since then, I use sunblock with DEET and have never had a problem.

I used Banana Boat and it worked well. I had heard the suggestion to use the spray, that it was easier, but it actually was messier with my daughters braids. The spray went all over the braids making them "yucky" to my 8yr old! I found the tube easier to apply to her head. I highly suggest using it on your head, I was too busy worrying about the kids' heads and I ended up burning mine!

Hey...Just back from the 7 night Western

I personally have a full head of hair and did not need any sunblock for my head. My daughter, however, had her hair braided in Cozumel and we did not put any on her. Ooops...her head is still peeling from the sunburn. I would recommend using the spray sunlotion for convinience. And yeah, it looks a little greasy, but no one will notice :-)
So... hats or sunblock for the hair follicle challenged (aka balding), or with braids, or babies with thin hair.
Have fun

I use the coppertone sport spray. I tried the spray in the pink bottle, but it's normal suncreen, and I didn't like that in my hair. The sport spray is clear. It is a little tacky when it dries, but it doesn't make your hair greasy. I ended up using that sport spray for all my sunscreen needs. It's a lot easier than rubbing it on.

Thanks for the replies! I have such thick hair I never worried about sunburned scalp, but DD has thin hair. We will definetly get some sunblock for her scalp!

I used Banana Boat Kids in a tube and dabbed it directly on her scalp where her braids were. I reapplied it on her scalp each time I reapplied on the rest of her. She is light blond with very fair skin and her scalp did not burn. Applying the cream just on the scalp seemed to avoid getting sunscreen in her braids.

Banana Boat makes a sunscreen specifically for the scalp (it says scalp spray right on the bottle). My DH uses this and work very well and is not at all greasy. The other regaular spray sunscreens might make the hair greasy and hard to wash.

As a "follicly-challenged" 40+ fair-skinned guy, I use sunblock on my scalp all the time. Key is to use a spray that is alcohol based, rather than oil based. There are a bunch out there, but the alcohol quickly evaporates leaving behind the sunblock.
