right heading for orlando on the 18th only for 7 nights sadly, is there a change of catching a sun tan walking around the parks at this time ? and what sort of spf lotion would be best? im pale skin, and dont tan generally i do however get burnt on my shoulders ..anyone suggest a spf?

I've just got back, the heat has really cooled down the past few days but the first 11 days it was SO hot, and I burnt pretty bad. I'm fare skinned too and I caught the sun from walking around the parks all day even with spf 20 on. After burning quite badly for the first 4/5 days though, I didn't burn at all after that, I didn't even have to use sun cream.

Use a tan accelerator for a couple of weeks before you go to prime your skin and then get a high factor spf

You will get burnt walking around the parks. Despite using high factor sun protection I am always tanned within the first few days and don't ever really 'lie around' in the sun. You will get burnt/tan anywhere you are outdoors and your skin is exposed to the sun, regardless of whether you are walking about or lying on a sun lounger

The sun is really strong here at the moment. DD is getting a tan with Factor 50 on!

I suggest at least factor 30.

BTW the heat is returning too :goodvibes

The key to not getting burned is to reapply the sunscreen every couple of hours. A 30 SPF is really all you need if you reapply. A 30 SPF will be easier on your skin chemical wise. You might want to get a sunscreen labeled "sports' due to these sunscreens are thicker and don't wear off as quickly as regular sunscreen.

I lived in the southern part of the US most of my life and this is how I avoid getting burned.

Ive got blonde hair and pale skin and i wore factor 30 whilst i was in florida but got burnt so badly that a cast member stopped me and said "get ur self to first aid missy every body wants to go home with a florida tan but no body wants to go home looking like a lobster" :lmao: she took sent me straight to first aid and they gave me pain killers and after sun with something to deaden the pain in :worship: and i was in a whole lot of pain :rotfl: from then on i carried around a factor 50 sun screen stick that i got from the gift shop and kept applying it through out the day it was really good stuff :thumbsup2

I can add some practical advice. Don't fall asleep on a lounger with your hands behind your head .... It was a turning point for me. I now know that it's always a good idea to apply some UNDER my arms as well :rolleyes1

Ok. I have to ask! What is a tan accelerator? I have never heard of one!

i always put sun protection cream on as there is a lot of waiting in line and sometimes not in the shade. Also i carry a very thin cotton long sleeve throw over top usually white, if the sun gets too much (sorry can't remember if the poster is male or femail :confused3) - and that's when we have been in Oct/nov!!!! :goodvibes

It is a pre-tanning/pre-sun exposure preparation which is applied daily to the skin for a couple of weeks before you expose your skin to the sun. It is supposed to prime your skin so that it does not burn as easily. It is very important to note that these products do NOT offer sun protection on their own so they are not a substitute for a good spf cream/spray. Someone recommended Elemis to me last year. I didn't use it on myself but did on my DD and it worked a treat on her. Although she goes brown very easily, she has a tendency to burn first which she did not on our last trip.

Australian Gold also have a range but you have to read very carefully as they have quite a few products which are intended for sunless tanning and I have no idea how effective they would be used as a primer for outdoor sun exposure.
