I need to hear from those of you who have ridden Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach. I will ride Tower of Terror, RocknRoller Coaster, etc. but I gotta tell ya I'm not sure about this one. My ds (7) is all about wanting to ride it. I was surprised that the height requirement is only 48 inches. Is it a wait until you get there and decide thing? What is SP like? :earseek:

It's a bit of a strange one - it's not like a ride, because you're not enclosed in anything - it's a big steep drop that looks very intimidating when you stand at the top.

It's all about pushing yourself over the edge, as when you're on it, it's a fantastic feeling hurtling down the slope.

Oh my it is soo fun! I am really really glad that I did it!!!

Like DisneyDiver said... It is VERY odd! I think it is one of the strangest (yet fun) rides I've been on!!!! It is VERY exhilerating!! It is most definietly worth the thrill!! -and wait!!! I would go to Blizzard Beach just to ride it!! It's a blast, and almost unexplainable on the feeling you get!! DO IT!! :hyper:

My 8 year old and dh did it and they LOVED it. My husband said he hasn't been nervous on a ride since he was a kid and when they go to the top, he was ready to chicken out but since my 8 year old had gone at that point, he figured he better :p
He was very glad they did it but didn't do it twice. He said your butt gets pretty beat up :earseek:

It is a rush...a real feeling of speed as you drop pretty much straight down...It is over a lot quicker than you expect...a word of advice for the ladies...wear a one piece or hold on to your top:eek:

One of the male life gaurds told me that his favorite place to work is at the bottom of Summit Plummit. He retrieves all the ladies tops for them!:earseek: :teeth:

lol.... and thanks to them I didn't have to walk around topless for the rest of the day!!! ;) .......

I've gone on it several times. It can be intimidating - waiting in line you get up higher and higher (great view over WDW!). And you realize you are going to have to get DOWN from that height! Several times it was all guys in the line and I was the only female (not a young one at that).

There is a CM controlling each person at the top. It is NEVER unattended. When it's your turn you sit in a little 'pool' area of water and there is a bar in front of you. The CM instructs you to cross your feet and cross your arms across your chest. They will not let you go down with water shoes on - the could/would catch on the slide and that would NOT be a good thing. The CM waits for the person before you to get off at the bottom before he allows you to go. You kind of have to scootch yourself forward to get your body over the 'hump' and start down.

It's a bit unnerving to be sitting in the 'pool' waiting to go over and you can't see the portion of the slide near the top - it really feels like you are dropping off the edge of the earth. (A leap of faith.)

I love coasters, thrill rides, speed and am not afraid of heights but this can be intimidating.

I felt that after all that anticipation, it was over way too soon. You are traveling so fast (officially it can get up to 65mph) that I felt I couldn't enjoy it. I had to keep my eyes closed because the force of the water spray stung my eyes - it hurt and I couldn't see. Picture hanging your head out the car window in a strong rainstorm going down the freeway at 65mph with the rain driving into your eyes.

The other thing that can affect someone psychologically is that (even though it is engineering properly) you are not "contained" or secured in like you usually are in thrill rides. I always wonder if someday (God forbid) someone might go off the edge of that slide.

Also, besides the one piece swimsuit for ladies, the other suggestion is to be sure to tighten your rear end muscles or you will have water driven up where you don't want it - alot of people go running for the restrooms after that waterslide!

Despite all the above, I have subjected myself to it several times. I think for me it's mustering up the courage and proving to myself I can do it that drives me.

I hope I didn't scare the heck out of anyone but knowing in advance might help you decide if it's for you. You can always walk up and chicken out - I've seen people get up there and they just can't do it. I doubt anyone would be unkind about it.

While the height makes me nervous, it doesn't scare me so much that I wouldn't do it. It's the above quote that worries me! I don't want to be uncomfortable after a ride!!!!!

My son calls Summit Plummet "the Wedgie Maker". Since that's not my idea of a good time, I have statyed away from this slide. I have done all the others, though.

although i have not yet been on that ride, i have been on something a little similar at a water park local to me. your son is officially right, it is the wedgie maker. although the ride was fun, i think that if i wanted to wear a thong bathing suit then i would have bought one. LOL.::yes::

Yes, it is the hurting tailbone thing that turns me off about SP.:) I like the Slush Gusher next to it but even that took a lot of courage for me. We saw some guy in the gift shop on the way out of BB that wanted $$ towards a new bathing suit since his got ripped apart on SP. What would cause a suit to rip on that? Scary.

I'm still to wimpy to try it.

Try the Slush Gusher which is right next to it, almost the same height... it's in the same line for a while. If you can handle that, you may be okay on Summit Plummet. The Slush Gusher was thrilling/scary enough for me.

P.S. If you're not in a hurry, take the chairlift up. Those stairs are killers in the heat!

I ride anything, but after Humumga Kowabunga at TL, I decided I had enough of that and opted out of Summet Plummet. My DH and DS, along with some other relatives enjoy it !

What I did want to share, as you had concern about your rear-end getting beat up..............both of them rode it only twice and their butts were very bruised ! It had to have felt bad too, as it looked bad.

You have to try it. It is really a mind game. I almost walked off the line because you are sooo high up. Having said that, the ride is not as scary as the anticipation. It goes so fast that my eyes were forced closed and my bathing suit was firmly up my rear. Will I go on it again. You betcha.

Out of a score of 1 to 10

I give it 10 Wedgies.

;)

Do it. I have to admit since I am not a fan of heights it took all my courage, but it was worth it. Its a great slide. Only thing is it seems to be so quick. I actually like the one next to it better I forget what its called. Lots of fun.

I have to say that I liked SP much better than the Slush Gushers. SP is higher, but that dip in SG really did a number on my tailbone!

As far as the chair lift goes, I think that ride is much more frightening then either SP or SG. My entire family was terrified the entire trip up the lift and vowed never to ride it again! We walked back up the mountain on each subsequent trip.

I did Summit Plummit for the first time on my recent trip. It was a thrill. You just lay down and then go and then there's so much water in your face you can't see a thing. Before you know it, you're done. It's awesome. I did have sore spots on my butt the next day, kinda like bruises on both cheeks, weird. It was worth it, I would do it again, but only first thing in the morning when there's not a huge long line. I don't like standing so high on those stairs for such a long period of time.

You have to try it. I loved it (except for the wedgie). It's over so fast!
