Summertime in Florida

You know you are in FLORIDA during the summertime when:
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and
end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out
and add butter, salt, and pepper.
Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from
laying hard-boiled eggs.
The cows are giving evaporated milk.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.

Living in Florida, I can definitely relate to everyone of those sayings. It was so hot down here yesterday.

I alwys have wanted to move to Florida but after my last vacation I think I'll stay put and juat go every yr. to visit the mouse.:D

This is so true! You can easily watch butter melt on the sidewalk. I did once as a child.

I can only hope my wife doesn't see this. I've been trying to convince her Florida is the place to retire to.

You're only talking about a few weeks out of the year... right?

Our NY summers haven't been all that cool the past several years and we don't have central air conditioning all over the place.

I will trade the wintery, snowy, COLD days in MA which can last from November until May for a month or two of hot, hot, heat in FL any day!! Annmarie

It's not just a month or two of intolerable heat it's more like the majority of the year with a few months of cool weather.

ROFLMBO Oh can I realte to this.

How about cooking the pepperoni on the top of you car hood? Or frying an egg.

But it is only about 3 months were it is unbearbly hot and the rest is tolerable. I would never go back north to live.

Summers here (SW FL) are easier to take than NY/NJ summers - been here over 7 years and haven't seen a 100 degree day yet and the humidity is about the same as it is up there.
Besides, it's so much fun to call up north in January from the pool or the golf course!

I'll second that!

That is true. At least in North Florida we are getting ready to hit the downhill slide to the hot weather. I could tolerate it so much better if it would just cool off a bit when the sun went down. But, I just keep telling myself, that it will be September soon.

I alway thought that it was A/C home to A/C car to A/C store. I also figure you in FL also use the car starter there in the heat like we use it here to warm up the car in the winter.

Also add that ...........

Summer is the time when you find out buying that car with the black leather interior was a BIG mistake....................

Yep - you can tell who the tourists are - they're the ones with the tans - we know better & stay inside in the A/C!

But the best things are light traffic and decent parking spaces! Woo hoo! :teeth:

I'm the original poster and I must clarify...I LOVE summertime in Florida!:sunny:
We live near the beach and almost always have a nice breeze.
We have a screened in porch, we have a tv and stereo out there and we eat all of our meals out there. We don't stay inside in the air-conditioning, we jump in the pool to cool off!
It seems there are usually just one or two nights each summer that it is just too still and humid to stay outside.
I have a pre-school and we are outside quite a bit all day long.
With 2 big shade trees and the ocean breeze, it's quite comfortable! (I also have a spray bottle of cold water to spritz the kids with, they love that!) :)
We enjoy the tremendous thunderstorms that quickly roll in and out again too!
There are many reasons NOT to live in Florida but the weather sure isn't one of them!
