Summer's Planning Journal 08/20 Update 08/10/07

Go over your order form carefully, and make sure they wrote the order in correctly. If they did, and the manufacturer sent you the wrong skirt, then full steam ahead! Raise heck with them and the shop.

Don't let the dressmaker touch anything until you've tried to get a new skirt, first.
 
I left the bridal salon feeling a bit down but the woman assured me that once altered it would look like that.

I called the Sales mangager for the maker of the dress and he told me to contact the owner of the store tomorrow and he will se about getting a replacement skirt for me. Tomorrow he will only have 1 week to get it and have it altered, there is no way it will get here in enough time, nor is there any guarantee it will look as it should.

Summer, remember that you paid the bridal store the £ for a NEW dress - not something that needs to be drastically altered to look vaguely like you hoped. The bridal store should be running ragged to put this right. I would be at the Bridal store tomorrow, and making sure that they knew I wasn't leaving until they put this right. I feel so sorry for you and so angry with them! I might come down and stamp my feet for you!!!!!

You get your refund or a new skirt. YOu have to tell them "This is not the skirt that I paid for and its definitely not the skirt that I want. How soon can you send me a replacement skirt" (Make sure that they don't make you pay for it -its their mistake!)

If they can't send you a replacement then get your refund- but you should do that ASAP! don't waste anytime and don't be cutesy with them. Don't worry about being a bridezilla- YOU DON"T MESS WITH A BRIDES DRESS...BIG NONO!

Completely agree. If they ordered the wrong skirt, that is on them. And they need to fix it. Sure, the lady can try to make it look like the skirt you wanted, but that is not what you paid for. And are they charging you for those particular alterations? That's bogus. You can go in calmly and explain that this is NOT what you paid for and what you expect. Bad business is bad business and word of mouth travels fast. Go in with what you expect to happen and politely, but firmly demand that they fix this.

While I agree that you look stunning in your dress, it is NOT the dress you ordered. I must concur with Abbypan on this one! She's right. THEY need to make it right. I know time is of the essence but right is RIGHT. Do not let them talk you into something else because of their mistake.

I totally agree that you shouldn't "settle" for the wrong skirt, but unfortunately with only 8 days left before you leave, getting a new one into the salon may not be a possibility. Plus, as "plain" as the front is, you are adding the sash to it, which will make it unique!

How about the skirt you originally tried on as the sample. Can you get that one at a discount price? At least you know that one is in the store and possibly available.:hug:
 
Summer, where did you get the dress from in the end. I know you were looking originally at a placed based in the US, if so could they send a new skirt to your hotel?
Fingers crossed everything gets sorted asap for you.
 
Your dress looks great but I understand your dissapointment. My dress still wasn't right when I picked it up to go to Florida and they had to alter the top so much that it wasn't the same dress anymore. It ended up being fine, but I had a complete nervous breakdown the night before we left. It just pissed me off that I paid that much to make sure the dress was perfect to end up with something I was upset about in the end. Who the heck do they make these giant ****ed dresses for anyway? My body isn't that far out of proportion and they had to take in like 8 inches at the top. If it was going to be that far off, why didn't the bridal shop suggest I not order it in the first place? Instead they gouge you for alteratiosn to screw up all their mistakes...
 
Thank you girls for the support. I have decided to take the day off work and look for another dress. I have canceled the cheque and I will contact the woman this morning and let her know that I am not happy with the dress. Although the dress is pretty, the halter neck is also wrong, for the dressmaker to have to take the boning out to get it to fit right is wrong. I think my figure is quite typical so there is no way it is my fault that the top is not fitting right.
When I went for the first fitting I tried on a dress that someone else bought. It was way too big and she pulled the top to sit on me properly and she had said because the skirt was too big, again with alterations it would sit perfectly. I was shown the picture of the front and purely based my order on seeing the picture of that dress. So I ordered it in good faith. It is a UK company but the dress has came over from India. I don't trust this company to be able to get me another skirt in so quickly it took over 2 months for the dress to arrive in the first place.
I am excited to go dress shopping but I was so happy to find 'The One' and to have it come in and be so different from what I ordered is so disappointing. I have contacted the dressmaker and asked her to halt any alterations, luckily she hadn't started it.
So I need loads of pixie dust girls, I have today only really to find a dress. I would have went back to the store but it is such a small store, that she has hardly any stock so it's unlikely I would find a dress that I like and in my size. I basically need something off the rack with little or no alterations.
 
Summer good luck with it all, I know it must be a nightmare trying to get a dress that is perfect after you have found the one.

I'm so sorry that the dress wasn't what you expected, but sometimes things just happen for a reason. Maybe today you'll go out and find something you love even more!

Good for you for cancelling the cheque, and being so sane about everything. It will all work out.

And...you did look beautiful in the dress, but you'll be a beautiful bride no matter what!

Summer, I am so sorry you are having to go through this so close to your wedding day! It really makes no sense that the top is that big! But, they do get you with alterations! :sad2:

I know here we have David's Bridal where you can buy dresses off the rack. I hope you have a similar place there. My prayers are with you today. (And LOTS of pixiedust: )
