Summer's Planning Journal 08/20 Update 08/10/07

Well, after spending about 3 hours looking for suits, my DF finally settled on this one:

along with this shirt and tie:

and this waistcoat:

and these cufflinks:

We originally bought a light gold cravat instead of the white tie, but the white tie looks great. We also had wanted a white waistcoat, but eventually settled on the silver grey one. He loves this style of shirt with the little collar, reminds me of 'Smoky and the Bandit':lmao:

I think he looks great in his outfit, all he need now is shoes!

I went to try on my wedding dress again and although it fits better, it still doesn't fit perfectly, I do have 4 months to go though so I am going to really work hard to lose the weight. I managed to try on my dress with my tiara, veil, shoes, necklace, earrings and the material for my sash. I bought black satin material which I will get a dressmaker to sew into a sash. The material is about 4 inches wide and will go right down to the bottom of the dress. It felt so much better with the sash against the dress. I bought the biggest hoop they had and it is on it's way to get dry cleaned.

Now when I was trying the dress on I felt really hot and I know that the dressing room was warm. However my hair started to curl (I had it straight) and I am now wondering how it will fare on the wedding day if I decide to keep it straight. Does the hair and make up artist put in loads of products to stop it doing this? I just don't think I would be comfortable wearing my hair up, as I never do this, I really want to have it down, but if it starts to curl, I'll scream:scared1:

I am still debating whether to do a Unity Candle Ceremony or a Sand Ceremony. Disney's quotes for the Unity Candle arrangements are pretty expensive and I'm assuming you don't get any holders to keep. I think without the floral arrangement (which is very expensive) the Unity Candles may seem quite bare, any thoughts? So I figured The Sand Ceremony may be better esp since we are at SBP, if you buy from Disney what do you get exactly? I mean okay, you keep the sand, but is that it? I don't know what to do, does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to pay through the nose for candles or sand, but they all seem very expensive and the Unity Candle won't last forever but the sand will. I love the beach so I'm thinking I should maybe go for sand, AAAHHHH, decisions!

I love the suit and the whole outfit you picked for DF!

I don't know what to tell you about the hair. I never wear mine up either. I'll give and wear a pony-tail sometimes when I'm going to the gym or know I'm going to be really hot, but it doesn't look good. I'm putting myself in my stylist's hand, though. She said my hair's just too thin--in the early September heat, it'll just look completely lifeless if I don't put it up. My only advice is to talk to your stylist about it. It's too bad you're too far away for a trial run. :( My stylist attempted a half-up/half-down style during my trial run but said it just wouldn't work after hot rollers had absolutely no effect. But maybe there are some good products that would work for you?

If you do the Unity Candle or Sand ceremony, do you have to buy from them? Could you just bring your own? It might be cheaper elsewhere. Since you love the beach (I do, too!), I vote for the Sand instead of the Candle ceremony. Also, like you say, at least it's something you can keep afterwards. And it fits with SBP.

Summer - I was reading the latest issue of Brides magazine (the one with pix of the WDW wedding contest winners) and thought of you - there's a whole page on black-and-white wedding stuff, including a white dress with a black sash. You're ahead of the curve on that one! :thumbsup2

Wish I had some advice on the hair issue. I have curly hair that just got curlier when I was at WDW, but maybe your hair stylist will have some miracle spray that defies humidity... the products just get better and better!

we get the Hi Res CD too (UK Bride) I think it is well worth it. Does anyone know who has done this before whether we get a letter confirming that we own the copyrights to these pics? Also will Randy do the same? I want to take this CD into our high street store to print off copies but I know they will ask to see proof that we own the copyrights.
hiya summer. you wont get a letter from disney about the copyright, doubt you will off randy either. you wont have any problem though getting reprints, i have printed off my wedding photos at boots and jessops and have had no problem at all. the fact that you have a cd of the photos implies to them that you have the copyright.

Hey Summer,

We did the sand ceremony, we had to provide the container to combine the sand in, but Disney provided the sand, the seperate cylinders, and we also purchased the petals from 10 roses to have just lingering around the bottle and cylinders. Our total for the sand and all was $30.00. They wanted at least $75.00 for a TINY floral ring for a unity candle.

I really liked the sand because now we have our bottle of sand on a shelf above our bed with wedding pictures around it and it looks beautiful.

Good Luck! :cheer2:

hey Summer, maybe you can help me out!!

first off, the stuff your DF bought is stunning - I love that look... I'm getting married on Halloween and want to add a black sash to my gown also! did you just go to a material store and how much did you buy? my gown has a chiffon overlay so I'm thinking a black chiffon sash tied in the front with the ends going almost to the floor and adding 3 black bows on the back of the train. OR just a sash coming across the front , tied in the back and going down 3/4 length of the train. I'm not going to the seamstress until late May.

can't tell you how many bridal magazines I've ripped apart looking for photos!! :rotfl:

looking forward to seeing a photo of yours!

Michelle :cloud9:

Summer -

I don't know if you saw what I posted in my thread about the MK photo session price increase, but...

Given all that happened with that, I was frustrated enough that I started looking for other places to cut expenses if possible. I had originally planned to just do all my floral with Disney because I figured it would be more convenient. Well, I hadn't gotten actual quotes for the unity candle yet, just knew that the Wishbook said $200 from floral for the unity candle, and I was planning on doing that.

Now, I am buying a unity candle and taking it there myself. I know since you are in the UK, it might be more difficult for you, but I figured I'd share the site with you anyway. The candles are carved, and they have an oil resevoir, so they are made so that the candle itself never burns down, and you can keep it. They are beautiful, much more decorative than what Disney provides, and while not cheap, still cheaper than Disney by far. I decided that with the candles we are getting, I really don't think that I need any floral. If, when the candles come in, I change my mind, I will go to the craft store and get some very simple silk ivy to go around the bottom. But with the way these candles are, you don't want anything extensive florally - it would take away from the candles.

Here's the one I plan on getting:

And, if you go to http://www.weddingfairytaledreams.com they have a number of other styles to choose from as well.

Thanks everyone for your responses and opinions.

Glorydaz - I bought black satin material from my local dept store, it only cost me $6.00 for 250cm in length and 60cm in width. I am going to have it doubled up so it should only be 4-5 inches width wise. I am going to get it attached then I will look for a brooch or something to put on it. I won't get pics of it until June probably, but I'll be sure to post them when I get them. I am definately having the sash go all the way down the front of the dress, I love the idea of the bows on the train, I think that would look great!

osxgirl - Thanks for the link. I was originally going to order from them but they don't ship to the UK, plus I have now decided to go for the sand ceremony, I like the idea of it, and I have found some glass containers that I think look really nice:

Oh, those are beautiful. I don't know if you plan to do anything else, but if you want a little more decoration, you could always go with some silk ivy to go on the table where the bottles will be, maybe even add a little heart garland to it in your wedding colors so it will sparkle in the sun... just a thought, anyway.

Okay I've woken up this morning and I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've decided to walk along to my local Wedding Dress store and try on a few dresses. :rolleyes1 I don't really know why, I do really like the dress I have bought, but it doesn't have the pick up skirt I would like. I decided it may be better to try on a couple of dresses that have this and then maybe I would decide once and for all that it doesn't suit me (I'm hoping!) I still have $1000 to pay on my wedding dress as I have only paid the deposit. So tell me girls, is this suicide?:scared1: What if I fall in love with another dress?

i did exactly what you are going to do but nothing was as special as the one I had already picked! I was told dont look anymore incase but I had to to make sure the one I picked was the right one!

Well I did it, I went to the dress shop and tried on another dress, and I think I'm in love. Here is the dress:

Close up of bodice:

Unfortunately I don't have a shot of the back which is such a shame as it has a really long train and is detailed with roses with black and white leaves, it also has the pulled up skirt I always wanted. The bodice is detailed with crystals all over it, it's hard to tell in the pic. It is also a 2 piece. The size I tried on was way too big, but it still gave me an idea as how it would look on me. Not only that I can have a detachable black sash and they do it for me. The alterations are really cheap (length and having it taken in if I lose more weight before the wedding) She will also hire me the hoop skirt for free. In a way I'm gutted, because I have already paid $400 towards my other dress, but I know I really love this one. I am going back tomorrow with my mother to get her opinion. Please let me know what you think of it, I so wish I had a photo of the back:love:

I'm at work and can't see the pics, but I am going through the exact same thing with my dress. I've decided to buy a different one and sell the old one on eBay. If you really like this new dress and feel more comfortable with it, then get it! :)

S-C that dress looks perfect for you. If I had saw that dress on someone elses thread I would have thought of you! I love it!

Summer, if the financial aspect really isn't that big of deal, forget about the money for a moment. Which dress do you feel better in. If you stick with the first dress, are you feeling you might regret not getting it? Don't settle for less than what you want. If you are not loving that first dress, it most likely isn't meant for you. I know when I got my second dress :scared1: I kept thinking that I wanted to wear that dress more than anything. I had already had doubts with the first dress anyways. I was afraid that I would have wished I had wore something else on that day. I don't even think about the first dress at all now. It is almost as it never existed. I say go with whichever you love more. (of course as long as you can afford it.)

Well I'm going back in tomorrow with my mom to get her opinion, I must be in love cause I wouldn't shut up about it to her on the phone:rolleyes: The skirt isn't as big in the pic as I would have it as I don't even think she has a hoop under it, it is quite a full skirt without it, but I know I love the full skirts. I will see if I can find a pic of the back. I am not allowed to take pics of it in the bridal salon until MY dress comes in for some reason:sad2: I mean the back is gorgeous:love:
I honestly do feel princessy in it, the fuller skirt just makes me go 'WOW' I love the way the halter shapes my shoulders too. *sigh* when will I learn to try all the stores before I buy something. I honestly never thought my local bridal salon would have 'THE' dress. Plus the woman was so friendly and I felt like she really paid attention to what I said.

I love it! The bodice is very beautiful!

Well, I went today with my mom to try on the new dress, and yes, it is 'THE ONE' it was even nicer the second time and this dress was 4 sizes too big. My mom loved it and she thought the back of the dress was beautiful. I tried it on with the biggest hoop and I just melted, it is exactly what I had hoped for. So I paid $400 today and the rest is due when I pick it up. She has ordered it today and she thinks it should get here within 10 weeks, if not she'll put a rush on it. I get all the alterations done there at the shop and I am having a detachable sash with a brooch and the rose leaves on the back of the dress will have a black accent. She has ordered it in my current size, but said she can easily get it taken in a few sizes. The fact that it's not a corset helps as I intend to space bag my dress so I can take it in hand luggage.
I'm so excited, I am truely ecstatic about my dress, I absolutely love it, the pics don't do it justice. I tried it with my veil, gloves and tiara and I was just so happy. Now I know I will never need to look again for another dress:)
Now how to tell the other bridal store I no longer want the other dress:scared1:

I'm glad you're so happy :) Thats how you should feel about your dress!!
