Summer's Planning Journal 08/20 Update 08/10/07

WOO HOO!!! I have changed my accommodation booking to 3 nights at The Caribbean Beach Resort and 4 nights at Port Orleans French Quarter. I still have my 7 nights at AKL, 3 nights on DCL and 4 nights at Universal.
Changing my CBR booking is a total surprise to my DF and my mother. Initially when we were looking to book our honeymoon, my DF wanted Port Orleans FQ, but I really wanted a beach and loved the loction of CBR.
After changing the wedding date to the Mon I decided it may be nice to spend the time before the wedding at CBR and the time after the wedding at POFQ, although the eve of the wedding we will be at POFQ.
When I was talking to Randy about pics he suggested getting some shots at the resort, and I suddenly thought of ForKeeps (Thanks Tiffany:flower3: ) and remembered how many beautiful shots she got at her resort, which was of course POFQ. I absolutely love the idea of the DTD boat, the location is great and I love the look of the grounds and the food court for breakfast. I feel I have made the right decision and it is actually cheaper to move to POFQ, weird!
I'm so excited:banana:  I am also gonna book the carriage ride for my DF and I on the eve of our wedding I think, something nice and romantic. I am not going to tell my DF or my mom until the day before we check out. I figure this will be a great surprise.
I have confirmed with Randy also that I want him to come and take pics during Wishes. We are starting out at The GF Marina, then moving on to the Pavillion (beautiful all lit up at night) then maybe heading over to The Poly on the beach there. He is meeting us at 9.30pm, after our V & A meal so it's perfect. I'm really glad I have booked this extra, as I love night time photos.
Have been working on our budget and my DF has noticed that I keep adding things here and there. I am trying to keep it to a minimum, but everything just looks so great, it's hard to choose. We are on free DDP, but we are still paying OOP for quite a few meals, there are some restaurants I just couldn't pass up:rotfl: We don't think we will need much spending money as we aren't taking much souvenirs back, and since we are moving abroad soon, there really isn't any point buying loads of things.
Well, I'm almost at the 4 month mark, and I feel the big day is getting really close. Nearly everything is organised and I feel I'm at a good position, apart from the budget:rolleyes: I am now looking into doing more selling on Ebay and Amazon(which I do loads of) and hopefully pick up more hours or a new job:idea:
Anyway, hope everyone else is getting on just as well with their planning!

Hey Summer Caitlin - I just wanted to say, from one Celtic gal to another - best of luck for the wedding, everything sounds absolutely amazing! It's my dream too, to get married at WDW, but I know it's especially hard when you're going over from the UK with money and if guests can make it, etc... One day hopefully!!

We'll be at WDW when you get married :) I'll keep a thought for you :teeth:

I have to say though, even though you're doing a great job with your weight loss - I don't think you need to lose any weight!!

Where are you moving abroad to?

Hayley x

Oh, I'm also a law student too! :)

You made a good choice going with POFQ. It's small and easy to navigate. When you get there ask if you can get a room with a river view! Also when at the food court try the beingets. They're sort of a puffed fried dough covered in powedered sugar, very tasty!!

Wow, we have loads in common!

We will be moving to Queensland, Gold Coast to be exact, hopefully within the next 16 months or so. I grew up in Sydney and have loads of family there, but I want to live on the coast and Sydney is so expensive these days, so I thought we'd give Queensland a go, plus the University I want to attend is in the Gold Coast. Bond University is where I intend to do my post graduate Law studies. Are you enjoying studying Law?

Thank you for the compliment about not needing to lose weight, but I am totally not happy with my weight. I used to be very slim and I was very athletic, so I'm not used to having to wear bigger clothes. All my smaller clothes are in the loft, 3 whole bags of them. I always hoped I would get back in them, so the wedding is the incentive I need.

Cool, you'll be in WDW at the same time as us. It seems there aren't many people on here that will be, I'll be around so maybe we might see you there.

I just realised you are also going for 3 weeks and it's your first time, me too!!!! Hope you have a wonderful vacation at WDW!

Wow, Australia's a far cry from Scotland! At least you won't miss the weather ;) Is your DF from Oz too, or is he a Scotsman?

Yeah, I love studying law - I'm in my final year now so it's quite scary, plus I want to plan the rest of our holiday, not revise! I was going to do the LPC, but now I've decided to stay on at Uni and do a PhD :goodvibes What do you hope to specialise in?

Yeah it's my 1st time too! I always wanted to go when I was little, now we're finally only 4 months away - I bet you're extra excited with your wedding and honeymoon! :goodvibes I just read the rest of the thread, and oh my gosh, are you keeping busy :rotfl: I guess you're like us, it's the holiday of a lifetime and it's the first time I'm doing it, so we want to do EVERYTHING  We're arriving on the 6th August, but don't hit WDW til the 17th.

I think you are doing brilliantly with the weight loss! I really want to lose some lbs before I go to Florida too - like you, I am used to being quite a smaller size, and hate having to buy my clothes bigger :headache: I think it was a mixture of being in a relationship and the student life :drinking1

Just wanted to say you will love CBR! I've stayed there several times, most recently with DH when we first started dating. It was our first Disney trip together and it was very romantic

I'm hoping to do a short stay the end of April at POFQ so if I do I'll let you know how it is. I've stayed at almost all of the resorts, but never POFQ. I stayed at POR when it was called Dixie Landings and didn't really care for it, but maybe we'll see how POFQ is. We might just do our usual day trip though. It is good to live only 1.5 hours away from The World!

P.S. I'll check on that postage for you on Saturday :flower3:

Jen we stayed at dixie landings too!! Haha-- I really didnt understand why they changed the name :confused3

S-C, I know I dont comment on this thread nearly enough! I love everything you are doing, all of your stuff-- and you are going to be taking one heck of a long trip! I hope that you come back here and share every bit with us! Haha-- you might have to keep a journal just to remember it all (just kidding!). I would love to hear all about your DCL experience-- that might help some of us book it more comfortably. I would love to go but am not sure if its right for us-- we dont have kids. Although i know other cruises wouldnt suit us well considering we dont drink or gamble. Oh well-- I love hearing everything and im so glad you got things worked out!

Will the resorts do something special for you to watch wishes.? I would love to do that on the beach at the Poly, but if I did I would like it to be a little more than just standing there on the beach...like a dessert party or something. I was going to do the grand 1 cruise, but never thought of this possibility. Looking forward to responses, thanks!:)

Well, after looking at Lynn's Planning Journal, I decided that I actually quite liked the look of a veil. When I tried one on in the bridal dept, I thought it looked stupid, but I had on one of those pouffy looking things, that just didn't work on me at all.
So I have been searching the internet for a veil. Now not knowing much at all about these things, I had to look up the different terms fo veils, i.e cathedral, one-tier, blusher (huh?) Now I am well versed in veil language and have since purchased one today:)

Here is a pic of the Shimmer Veil I have bought:

I have absolutely fallen in love with this, esp the blusher (see, I know now what that means, it isn't just make up;) ) I love the shimmer effect. Apparently the first image is what it should look like in the sun or under bright lights (photography flash etc) I'm so excited, I honestly thought I didn't want a veil, but I didn't realise there were so many different types. I still think I will wear my hair down and I think this will work well with that kind of style.

I also purchased earrings:

They go really well with my necklace and tiara and I don't like wearing huge earrings so these will work really well, plus they were on sale, so another bonus:thumbsup2

I have bought these items from princessbridetiaras.com, I have never used them before, but I have browsed through their website many times.

I also have paid more on my wedding dress today and have been told it is due in the shop mid May:banana:  She has advised me that their are two different types of hoops to wear under my skirt:confused3 The one I tried on was the smaller of the two, which makes me even more excited as I loved it when the skirt was bigger, now I can't wait to try on the other one:woohoo:

Am just about to book our overnight stay at The Holiday Inn Express at Glasgow airport for the night before we fly to Orlando. If I book it now that is just one more thing off of my 'to do' list.

I have not heard back from Disney photography or Tanis for that matter after I sent the email, complaining about the MK Bridal Shoot. I'm still taking it that I am paying $800 and that's final. We'll see what he comes back with, but I may just follow it up today.

I don't think I mentioned it before, but I have also booked Jiko for one of our nights when we are staying at AKL. It was a hard decision actually as we will be paying OOP for it, and I wasn't too sure if we would like the food there. However it has had so many great reviews and I thought we may regret it if we didn't book it.

I am also waiting for the date when I can book the Carriage ride throught the POR grounds. I am hoping to book it on the eve of our wedding. Does anyone think it would be weird to have my mom come along on the ride? I think she would really love it too, but I don't know, what do you think?

I love the look of your veil!

Defintiely book the carraige ride through POR. There are actually 2 horses that go around at the same time, usually in a different direction. You can also bring drinks while on the ride, so you could have a toast while going through the grounds. As for your mom being there, it's only weird if you think it is. It would probably be fun!

I think maybe I missed something... what's going on with the Bridal Shoot?

Your veil is so glamorous!!! I love it.

Love your new things Summer!! They will look absolutely gorgeous on you! :teeth: All sparkly :)

I can't believe the MK shoot has gone up to $1000! It still says it's $800 on the Wish Book :sad2: It's not really right if they make you pay the extra $200, especially as you have already booked it when it was $800.

My DBF said yes last night to a WDW wedding :teeth: I guess I am a good persuader as it's something I thought would never happen :rotfl: Although it won't be for another 5/6 years, and we're not even engaged yet  It's a start of my dream come true ;)

I'm with you on this one, not engaged either, and wedding is probably at least 3 years away - gotta start planning though eh?! Just my mum I need to work on at the moment I think.....

Disappointed the shoot has gone up - but then who knows how much it will cost in a few years time!

I know, I'll bet it'll have gone up to $2000 or something by the time we get married!! Never too early for planning though - I'm planning for planning :rotfl: I'll get to the hurdle of everyone else when the time comes  As long as some close family and friends are there I'm happy - excuse to have a big party when we get back home and wear the dress twice ;)

Good news for me on the MK front. Tanis emailed me today and has said that she is definately honoring the $800 price I was quoted for the MK Shoot and as we get the Hi Res CD too (UK Bride) I think it is well worth it. Does anyone know who has done this before whether we get a letter confirming that we own the copyrights to these pics? Also will Randy do the same? I want to take this CD into our high street store to print off copies but I know they will ask to see proof that we own the copyrights.

Also as you all know I have changed part of my accomodations to include POFQ. After reading Emilys TR and finding out the room number she was in, I decided to go ahead and request the exact room she had, it sounded perfect. And :woohoo: I managed to secure it, it only cost an extra $80 for the whole 4 nights we are there. I have not upgraded any other rooms that we are staying in as I am secretly hoping for a complimentary upgrade, esp in AKL:rolleyes1 But i decided that as we will be at POFQ the eve of our wedding and the 3 days after the wedding it was justifiable to upgrade, this way at least we have that room guaranteed.
