Summer Vacation Time - San Diego, Hotel Del Coronado, Catalina, and of course DL

Very nice pics of the Catalina. It would be nice to go there one day on a vacation.

It is a nice get away. We loved the feeling of being on the ocean but not subjected to the cruise vacation. This was our first time being on the ocean without being able to see land from the boat. Makes you appreciate how small we really are.

First off, best wishes to Jack and his family. I hope and pray that everything turns out fine.

Mike, I'm enjoying your shots. One of my best friends and his family live in Colorado Springs, but fortunately they were not in danger.

Can't wait to hear and see more!

Thanks for joining Sleepless Knight. Always love your insight. Forgive me because I sometimes forget but you were named sleeping jedi beauty, right? My wife turned me on to your trip reports way back when. You always gave the best reports.

On board now for your trip report! Can't wait to hear more. My family is headed to DLR for the first time next month!

Your going to have a blast Kerry. Everytime I hear someone is going for the first time I think back to our family's first time in 2007. We went for a short 4 day weekend kind of thing during Halloween time. We use to think WDW vacations were the end all be all to vacationing. Boy were we wrong. Prepare to be hooked.

The shots of Catalina are......... absolutely heavenly.

And loving the random DLR shot! I do love the total Disney immersion at WDW...... but all the ther interesting things around DLR are SO tempting.

Thanks Janet. Great Merida dress by the way! If you all want to see a lady who can make the most gorgeous dresses in the world for her daughter then you should head over to her trip report. She also is an amazing photographer. Do yourself a favor and stop on over.

Now we just need you to get back to Disneyland and join us on the DL picture of the day thread on the community side of the Disneyland boards!:stir:

Another random shot.

Mike -

This beautiful random shot of Floral Mickey above^^^ - on which date was that taken? It on this most recent DLR trip, correct?

I ask because when I was there on June 9th for the Cars Land preview - not all that long ago - if I recall correctly, the swirly designs around Mickey's head were a pinkish-purple shade of flower. I don't think there was any yellow at all in there, unless I just totally looked past it!

In fact, I was so fascinated to see a different color in the Mickey Floral than what I have become accustomed to (which is the Fall/Halloween design and the holiday season/red motif).

Anyway, it just surprised me because I didn't realize that Floral Mickey's surrounding colors were changed between early June and early July. I guess I assumed they stayed as is until Summer season ends and then Masked Halloween Mickey goes in.

ETA: The quote feature was not working for me this morning, for some weird reason, or else I would have quoted your post with the photo and carried it over to this page!

Thanks for the kind words Mike.

Reading your TR finally pushed me over the edge to start writing my own again. It's been 4 years, so at this point, I'm combining the greatest moments from trip reports never written (or only partially written in one case) with the planning aspects of my next two known visits. One to Disneyland for the 1/2 Marathon and one to Walt Disney World for the Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon.

And I've already started posted part of it.:cool1:

Awwww shucks. Thanks Mike! :flower3:

It's not gonna take much to get me back over to DL. It's been 2 years this summer. My plan was to get back and see the bulk of the Fantasyland Expansion this December, then swap over to reading the DL side of things and get up to speed to plot..... I mean plan...... something for next fall at DL. Just not sure if we'd try for October or December. I will have a LOT of research to do.

Yes this was from late June into the first few days of July. Thanks Sherry. I'm always trying to get a different angle of the mickey floral. Pretty soon I'm going to have to jump the fence. Just kidding.

I'm off to start reading.

These signs for sale were in the gift shops across the street from the hotel. I just had to take a picture and share...

Thanks for joining Sue. Love my 60d so far. What two lenses do you have?

DL in October is so much fun. You will get to see the Haunted Mansion overlay.

Hi Mike:wave2:

I have the 18-55mm and the 55-250mm lenses. I have been out getting the feel for the camera over the past couple of weekends and I am most happy with the reults so far! I just cannot wait to get it to Disneyland. I have just purchased a remote shutter release cable and have a new tripod on the way with the fireworks in mind!
I have been to DL twice before, once in the regular season and also for Christmas, but this is our first look at the Halloween decorations! I just love the Haunted Mansion ( it is my favourite ride! ) and I especially love it with the overlay!
Looking forward most though to seeing my castle again ( I am sure everyone who loves the castle refers to it as "their" castle!!! ) ................ahh the pictures I will take!!!!
And great minds must think alike as I also threw in random Disney shots all the way through my trip report.......love it!:thumbsup2

Looking forward to seeing the Disneyland pics, but loving all the others so far!!!

They were is a shop just across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado.

Minnie...we love the overlay on the Haunted Mansion as well. I always liked the NBC movie but love it that much more after riding thru the overlay. I also love the Christmas overlay of It's a small world.

I took several shots with the 55-250 this time around. I love this lens. It is very crisp and has high IQ. What kind of tripod did you get?

I noticed they sell a remote for the Iphone for slr's. This was on cool summer photography items on the USA today website for this weekend.

Wow does that look nice. One of these days I'm going to eat at the Carthay Circle. Just not sure when yet. Trying to save money for a WDW trip means no eating at Carthay Circle for now. And I'm okay with that.
