We left Dothan Al on Saturday July 17th pulling a Forest River Flagstaff Model Camper. When we turned on I-75S, a truck pulled up beside us and said our right rear tire was smoking. We pulled over and it was so hot the grease was out of the wheel and the paint was burnt off the inside of the wheel hub. We found someone in Lake City who came and did a temporary fix and followed us as we drove on the side of the road about 15 miles to his shop. We called Fort Wilderness and explained the situation. They sprinkled "magic dust" and was able to provide us a cabin for the week. We can not express our gratitude to the management and staff of Fort Wilderness working with us to ensure our family enjoyed a great Disney Vacation. The camper is still in Lake City awaiting an axle.

That is really great! I am so glad it all worked out and your family had a great time! :tinker:

Great to hear you could still have you Disney vacation, good luck with your repair , how old is the camper? check with Forrest river there have been alot of axle issues and you might get some help from them or the mfg of the axle.

This is why tire pressure monitors should be standard. I just bought a set for my 5'er and although I'm sure they're not 100% going to keep anything from happening, but it's nice to see the pressure and temps of the tires. I've had people debate me that a tire could lose it's casing but still hold air. I'm sure if the casing started to come off the temp will change.

Glad your trip still happened. I remember a tire caused a dis'er family their vacation a while back. There is so much debris on the roads, especially the emergency lanes. Last year we pulled off with a flatbed trailer hauling our 4 wheelers because I thought I had a flat. All was fine and about a mile after getting back on the road I had a flat which I suspect was from running over all the crap I saw in the lane.

Donnie, could you tell me some more about the pressure monitors, how they work, what you purchased and where and the price?

Thanks.
Judy

I can tell you want I do on long trips I have a 100 psi tire gauge I test the tire pressure every 300 miles when we pull over I also feel the tires to see if one is getting hot and also feel the hubs to see if there over heating I also carry grease to add to the hubs

Sorry about your trouble, but sure am glad your vacation wasn't ruined! As much as we bash Disney for some of the decisions they have made at the Fort over the past several years, we do still hear stories like yours from time to time and realize that it is still a better vacation destination than most places that would take your money and say "sorry, can't help you".

Hope your TT is back on the road soon without a lot out of pocket. At least Lake City isn't TOO far from Dothan. Good luck!
