Summer vacation destination that's not so blazing hot!

Northern California - San Francisco, Redwood Trees, Wine Country, Big Sur, etc. Lots you can do with a rental car.

I think a few posts have mentioned the Pacific highway. But I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned that due to a really bad winter, there's a destabilized bridge which has cut off a portion of Big Sur. Basically, you cannot drive all the way through on Highway 1, and the DOT is probably not going to replace that bridge before fall. (Everyone is hoping for fall. But I'm betting on it being out for a year, as I think they're still arguing over how to replace it).

Vancouver BC and Seattle WA? Because our CDN dollar is so crummy right now your US dollars go way further in Canada giving you more bang for your buck :thumbsup2

So true about Canada but any money saved there will be spent on hotels in Seattle. It's gotten seriously expensive, and makes staying at a value at WDW look like a bargain in comparison!

An adventure on the Alaskan Marine Highway, maybe, if you like boats? Same scenery as a cruise, but lots cheaper.

Another vote for Colorado! No humidity and no bugs. It was so strange to send my kid off to YMCA camp in the mountains and see 'long johns' on the packing list. Long johns? For summer camp? Well, yeah, at 8,000 feet it can get pretty chilly at night!
