Summer trip when you HATE the heat or no trip?

We always go in the summer due our kids school calendar. Sure it is hot, but your at Disney! We tend to venture into the parks later in the afternoon to avoid the hottest time of the day. We spend mornings outlet shopping or spending time at the resort.

We go ever August & my DH and kids are very heat sensitive, its unbelievably hot and humid at the parks. So We go out for breakfast, go to the resort pool all day & then get to the parks around 5, no way can we be at the parks all day in the Florida summer heat, but we still have a ball and also get to enjoy the resort pools too. Like other posters said, if you can get to the parks super early for a little bit and then go for a swim break when the heat is unbearable.

Heat indexes around 100-110 degrees, on some days, some only 93-98 degrees, it's sucks but go early go back to the pool cool off, take a nap go back in the later afternoon be hot for a while until the sun goes down, then it's just a little hot but you don't have the sun beating down on you, staying on property is good as they have the extended hours.

HUGE plus is your kid's ages. I loved when my kids got older, changed everything. Plan your days to fully utilize the evening and late closing hours. You can do mornings while it's cool, return to resort for swimming and naps, and return later. Also we book our table service at lunch hours or mid afternoon to escape the heat. Sitting, being served and taking our time to cool off is very energizing. And of course the obvious really do help, light colors and fabrics, hats, drinking lots of water, hand held fans that can clip to backpack ....

I also have zero tolerance of heat. If summer is the only time you can go as a family, then I would suck it up and work around it.

We go in AUgust too, and this year my Son in Law, a heat hater times ten, is joining us. AS you said, touring is different, but still fun. Head out early, get the heck out when the sun is high, and go back in the evening, We also plan the AC shows and attractions as a respite from the heat.

We go the last week in Aug before school starts here in the northeast. It's very hot and humid but we take midday breaks to swim. We also try to alternate a.c. shows with outdoor shows/rides. Not ideal but it helps! I bring a water bottle and squirt into my grandsons' baseball caps! lol! When it rains it's kinda refreshing. My desire to go outweighs the heat I'll be facing! Gotta love the mouse and his magic!!

It sure does make a difference! We leave the parks around lunch time and go back after dinner. This is one time that hoppers really are worth it to my family, since we are back at teh resort for that mid day break, we do not liek to be commited to any individual park.

We always go in August and yes it is very HOT, but it's doable. As others have said take advantage of the first couple of hours the parks are open and then head back to the hotel for a break and come back out in the evenings. The end of August is much less crowded than the beginning/middle but you have to go when you can. My college daughter starts around the 3rd week of August so that put a damper on my disney trips the last week in August.

We went at the end of August one year and I was nervous about the heat but we went in with a plan and it was an absolutely fantastic trip. Frog Togg Chilly Pads, small mister fans from Walmart, and lots of drinking water were our best friends. We made sure to take breaks at places like The American Adventure, Hall of Presidents, etc. An extended time in air conditioning in the middle of the day did wonders. We also brought along the cheap 99 cent ponchos from Walmart for the pop showers in the afternoon - we only needed them once. They were much lighter to carry around than 4 rain jackets.

What time do you usually head back to the hotel and what time do you head back to the parks. I am thinking of doing this for our trip in late August, but my DD gets tired around 9:00 ish. Thanks

It could never get hot enough for me not to go because of the heat. DS13 and I hate the heat but it didn't stop us on any trip and we have been in June, July and August. Pace yourself, drink plenty of water, takes breaks when you need them and have a good time!

Live in south AL .....it would not stop me from going, but I'm used to it.... I would go, consider wearing wicking clothing like camping or workout wear.....it makes a huge difference in how you feel when you do sweat....vs wearing traditional shorts and cotton t-shirt s. The frog toggs r awesome.....we use ours May through Sept at sporting and other outdoor events...they help a lot!

Thanks for all of the advice. If we do go I have some great suggestions that I will definitely take advantage of!

I'm going to the parks for the first time in 20 years in the summer this week!!!!!! I'm prepared to sweat to death and die. (LOL!) That's the motto on this trip. I have been to Orlando in August and visited the water parks. It was horribly hot. I swore I wouldn't go to the parks in the summer. Hmmmm go now or not at all this year. ACK! I decided to deal with the heat.
