We are thinking of going to DL next summer. Can I get any tips from you veterans, please??? We have been to WDW many, many times. When its hot we go early and come back and nap and swim mid day and then back to the parks at night. Is it less crowded towards the end of August (do schools on West Coast go back before Sept??). We went last year and my kids are desperate to go back. When we were there they were building Nemo subs so there are a few new rides ~ Nemo and Toy Story. I understand Little Mermaid may be open by then too. What did they get rid of to put LM ?? I hope not the huge ferris wheel. Thanks, Happy 4th of July everyone!!!!

This is the time to go. Kids are still in school and you can tour the park during the week with minimal crowds. Weather is great too!

Hydroguy has a "sticky" that you can check out with his summer tips. I will be using them is just a few more days:cool1:

We are planning on visiting DL next August, last week to be specific, it may be hot, but not as humid as Orland gets in August.

We have also been to WDW many times, never DL.

We are very excited.

From my understanding they are planning on keeping the Sun Wheel, but they are altering it slightly. I have heard that they are going to remove the sun and replace it with a giant Mickey head.

We're usually a large party, and we've never had issues with bringing in snacks and soda - I'm talking 2 backpacks filled with edible goods. We've never had problems during security checked, and we've even asked. We were told, as long as it's not a glass container or alcoholic then it's okay. However I've heard some things about sandwiches like huge deli sandwiches, and I saw a person's bucket of KFC chicken get rejected. So as long as it's not too extravagant, it should be okay.

Any place will give you a cup of ice for free, if you plan to bring in soda cans. Also, keep in mind that the Mexican restaurant next to Big Thunder Mountain (Disneyland) provides free soda refills.

This is base on our experience and we've been doing this for years. I'd like to hear from anyone who has had issues.

Many of the school districts in CA, AZ, and NV are back in school in August. DLR has seen a decrease in visitors over the last couple years and has started decreasings its hours during the last couple weeks of Aug. It's a pretty good time to go, although you will find that some of the local annual passholders will be coming into the parks on weekends and weeknights since their passes will be unblocked around that same time. It's also typically very very hot (but not humid like WDW).

Read Hydro's stickies for sure!

Same with us, we have bought sandwiches, snacks and drinks into WDW and DL many times and have never had any problems with security. In fact my kids are the ones that hold the cooler so the guards always kid around with them. I've never seen anyone have problems with what they bring in, I think everyone pretty much obeys their guidelines, or tries very hard to.

What great tips. Bringing in your own food and the drink refills at the Mexican place are definate helps. I know August will be hot but I think that would be when I could put the most time together. I thought the crowds would be really bad in July. TIA this board is awesome.
