Summer Specials?

We are planning a cross country trip this summer ending at Disneyland. We've only been once before and are terribly spoiled by having DVC and staying at the Grand Californian. We've since sold our DVC and looking at all of the Disney owned properties I have sticker shock! But...I really want to stay on a Disney hotel. Grand is out of the race and even the Disneyland Hotel is pretty outrageous.

Do they typically run any room/package deals in the summer? We'd be there the first part of August.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Since summer is a peak time and demand for the Disney onsite hotels seems pretty high in general, I wouldn't expect to find much in the way of specials. Maybe 10-15% off, if anything, for that time of year.

AAA gives you 15% off any time of year I believe. You have to call to book. At least it used to be the case. We've rented points through Dave's vacation club the last couple of stays at the Grand. I know it's not onsite but the new Courtyard by hojo's is close and looks nice. We are staying there for a couple of nights before our 5nt VGC stay this July.

Good idea but there is no way they will be able to get the GCH with rented points 3 months b4 they want to go. Very limited amount of rooms available for the demand. You can always try but I would doubt you would be able to get it.

PP is a good alternative for staying on site.

MY TA says Disneyland no longer offers hotel discounts for AAA.

Oh for the good ole days......

Discounts are becoming a thing of the past. If they happen they are few and far between.

Just like slow days in the parks. I do remember when.... and it wasn't that long ago.

As others have mentioned check AAA and see if they have anything to offer. Costco might be a place to check too.
There are many nice places on Harbor. Booking early will be key to get the best room rate.

Good luck

That's peak time at DLR. IF I remember right last year the summer discount stopped mid-June & late summer discount didn't start until mid-August. The only discount available that I can think of is using a coupon on Orbitz (usually 15% + 5% "rewards dollars") or Cheaptickets (a few percentage points more than Orbitz, no rewards). (AAA & Disney discontinued their relationship a few years ago so while it won't hurt to check I wouldn't hold my breath.) Paradise Pier is the cheapest onsite hotel. As mentioned there are a number of more affordable offsite options and you often can find someone here on the DIS who has stayed there before if looking for offsite info & opinions.

Thanks for the responses. AAA out here only discounts Disney World. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go for Paradise Pier. It's not likely we will be back for a long time so I'll just book it. It's just frustrating since there seem to be deals for DW all of the time...

Demand for onsite DL hotels during summer is MUCH higher than WDW. Don't let it get you down! After all- you're going to Disneyland!!
