We are heading down end of August and flying back over Labour Day weekend.

Flying WestJet since we have 2 mastercards so our kids will be using our companion vouchers.

Prices currently are quite high (about $950 after taxes), but they should hopefully go down, right? I’m Most nervous about the labour day weekend flight that it won’t go down at all since a busier weekend.

when have you found that summer seat sales start in the past? I’m probably okay to wait and book sometime in next couple months?

I think a big factor will depend on whether the 737 max will be flying by then. Both WJ and AC have the 737 max sitting on the ground, without those extra seats in the air capacity will be limited and prices will be higher. My $0.02

Another key factor in your finding good $ on flights is what airport will you be flying out of. Are you able to fly direct?

Unfortunately only if I fly Swoop which I personally don’t want to do. Looks like at moment need a connection in Toronto

Prices will go down. For August, I often buy May or June. Usually spend at most $400 nonstop from Toronto. Usually Air Canada though—cheaper.

Thank you! I was getting worried because months ago I saw the price for about $750 but thought it would go cheaper. And now it’s been creeping up to $900+. Good to know I can just keep waiting. Seems all the sales so far have been for travel until June 2020 so like you said, the summer ones should be coming. Thanks :)

I am in the same boat (plane?) as you - we are going at the end of August and returning on the Labour Day weekend, out of Calgary. I ended up booking the flights last week as they took a bit of a dip in price. We are a family of 5 and have 2 MasterCards and used the two companion flights.

For comparison, we usually go down in January but had to change our plans this year. Our January flights usually cost around $2500 for our family of five, after companion tickets and the odd WestJet dollars we collect throughout the year. For our August trip I expected it to be a bit more expensive, so I budgeted $3,000 for flights, with the same conditions - companion tickets and the odd WestJet dollar here and there. They came in at $3,077 so I grabbed them.

Our companion flights have an April expiry, so up until then I will watch the prices and take advantage of any significant dips, as long as that difference is greater than $50. After April, we are locked in.

It helps me to set a budget that I am conformable with and make the move when it gets close to that. Saves me the stress of worrying too much about it :-)
