Do any of you guys have to read book(s) during the summer for your English class next year? I have to read two:

-"All quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque.
-"Tess of the D'Urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy.

Also, have you ever read either of these books before? If so, are they good?

LOVED Tess of the D'Urbervilles, though sadly, I didn't get to read the last few pages because it was due back at the library. But I can't tell ya the whole plot either, cause it was a few years ago. 7th grade I believe. (10th now) But it's very good. :thumbsup2 Happy reading!

i've never read either of the books and i don't have to read for english next year! :cool1: i DO read just for fun tho! :goodvibes

I have to read 6 books over the summer for my advanced placement english course next year, i should be getting the list tomorrow, but i know we read Utopia, 1984 and HitchHikers Guide!!

I've just finished 1984, great book.

I haven't read those two, but I did read 1984...had a nightmare about it after the first 10 pages...put it down for about 2 weeks...then continued reading it.. :rotfl:

I don't have ANY assigned summer reading so FINALLY I can read WHATEVER I WANT...such as what we call "Pink-book-jacket" books. :rotfl:

I have to read three. I don't know about the other two, but Pride and Prejudice is definitely one of them.

Im going into 9th grade and have to read

"The House of the Spirits" Isabel Allende

"Boys Life"-Robert McCammon

and one other book. I think Im going to read "Jays Journal"-anonymous though.

All Quiet on the Western Front is outstanding! I never read it, but I watched the original movie.

I get to read the Grapes of Wrath and The Awakening. I can't wait to read The Awakening (as I have already bought the book on my own time never knowing it was going to be summer reading lol) but have a feeling I won't care too much for The Grapes of Wrath. I am sure the message will be great, but I am usually very active in the summer and sitting down to read such a book might not be easy lol.
