Summer Fun not to $$?

Family of 3 would like ideas for summer fun that is budget friendly?. DH, DW, & 6 1/2 yrs old DS.

A Drive In Theater is already on our list. We are in Niagara Falls area. However, are too familiar with the Falls!

Canada's Wonderland too $$

How about a leisurely hike on the walking trails at a nearby Provincial Park?

Picnic at a nearby lake. Bring your bathing suits and towels and make a day of it.

Picnic at a park. Bring your frisbee or a ball and glove.

Take in some of the small town summer festivals. Wander around some of the farmers markets. Go to a Pick Your Own farm and, well, pick your own.

None of these cost much more than the price of gas.

Port Dalhousie! Free public beach, 5 cent rides on the carousel, check out the boats in the lock, and there's a bird sanctuary too (I can't remember the name)...

Geocaching! If you've never heard of it, it's basically hiking with the added fun of a treasure hunt.

It's our favorite "free" thing to do. If you have a smartphone, the official app is only $9.99 I think and it can provide, weeks, months, no, years of fun. For no more costs than the price of gas. There are many free finds. I pay for the premium which just gives you more, but it's nominal. $30/annual OR if you pay by the month to try it out, just $3.00/month.
