Somebody please ease my mind. We traded our RCI Aruba week for a week at Summer Bay Resort. It looks lovely on the website but I just read some negative reports on trip advisor. We leave Friday so there sisnt time to change it. I just want to be prepared. We got a 2 BR Condo style. We paid for an upgrade from the standard Villa on recommendation from RCI. We stayed at Liki Tiki last year and it was ok.We are spending Fri-Sun on site at Dolphin.
If anyone has stayed here recently I would love to know how it was and how long of a drive it was to Disney. I made some ADR's already and am not sure about travel times.
Thanks!!! :cool1:

If you stayed at Liki Tiki, Summer Bay is the one you can see from the Liki Tiki water park. It is right behind it. I think the travel to disney should be about the same. We found 15 minutes taking the back way (black lake road to
Sherbeth rd. to Osceola) to most places in disney. Summer Bay looks very nice from Liki Tiki, at least the newer buildings that you can see, maybe that is where the upgraded condo's are. Have a great trip.

I stayed at Summer Bay two summers ago, also in a 2 bedroom. Nice unit, professional staff, tight security and pretty sound proof. I requested a bottom floor in a building close to the clubhouse. Since they have open patios that saves you a lot of walking to the club house. I'm sorry I forget the building numbers. They honored my request, no problem. There are smaller pools directly outside your building in addition to the clubhouse pool

I have not read the reports on trip advisor, but I found it to be a first class resort and have an exchange for two weeks this coming summer in the houses  .

My only complaint was karaoke in the main pool. It was just God awful. A mediorce singer with a mike and background music is not my idea of entertainment - JMHO. Not to mention handing the mike off to every passing ten yr old  , but this certainly didn't have any negative effect on my stay there.

It is pretty far down 192. I know that bothers some people, but I didn't have a problem with it. About 15-20 min ride (tops) to any parking lot.

We've stayed there a couple of times, most recently last October. The first time we were there a few years ago, construction on 192 made it a pain to travel to WDW. Last Fall, it was just fine. There are lots of red lights, but traffic moves pretty well. We also took Sherbeth Rd into the parks part of the time, depending on where we were going.

Summer Bay is a very nice resort and the staff tries to make you feel welcome. Be sure and check out the balloon guy if he's there. He made the most incredible balloons. We were just talking yesterday about the monkey climbing the palm tree he made for my son.

Thank you all. I feel better now!
I didnt realize it was near the Liki Tiki. It is listed as being in a different town.
We hope to make use of EMH during our onsite weekend then take it a little easier during our off site stay.
We all woke up with bad colds today. Hopefully it will pass quickly.
We leave in 5 days! :lmao:

Hi,

Lots of people from MA here, including us! We stayed in a 2-brm villa at Summer Bay last July. It was our only visit there but we liked it. The villas are actually smaller in size and do not have a balcony like the condos so I think you will really enjoy the upgrade.

The villa was still plenty big for our family of four and the resort was nicely kept and clean. The staff was very friendly as well.

It was definitely further out on 192 than we had stayed before but it sounds like you will be fine since you already know that, plus you are also staying on-site for part of your trip as well.

When you are on 192 heading away from Summer Bay, you can take a left at the lights near Orange Lake....it's called Black Lake Rd I believe. Stay on that and it will take you right to Sherbeth Rd. You will drive almost parallel to 192 but without the traffic lights. You'll be behind all of the stores and restaurants. Take a left onto Sherbeth Rd and you will come out near AK. There is a sign on your right about other Disney parks and you can follow those to where you are going. It can save you some time but overall we really didn't hit any significant traffic during our stay.

Have a great time. Let us know if you have any other questions on the resort.

We've stayed at SB several times and like it alot. If you want to upgrade to a private 3BR/3BA pool house ask when you checkin. Maybe for a fee they will let you. The private pool homes are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
