Summer 2024 Prices

The European cruise mark up is just insane. Equivalent trips only 2-3 months out from sailing you can get at 30-50 per cent discount in 2023 compared with 2024.

disney is just being stupid with their 2024 prices. They have to fall sharply unless disney plans on doing these cruises with less than 50 percent capacity.

There are some good itineraries on Princess and Celebrity that visit the Baltic countries like Sweden, Finland, and Estonia plus some of the others Disney is stopping at this year.

Why give up going where you want to go just to sail on Disney and pay 4 times as much?
Celebrity has some excellent Northern Europe ones next year on their newer ships for relatively reasonable prices (even with adding in the drinks, tips, Wi-Fi package). I have been eyeing those, hopefully airfare isn’t crazy next year.

I’m so disappointed in DCL itineraries. I’d really prefer to use them for a New England, British Isles, or Northern European cruise but the itineraries and when they’re sailing those locations just don’t work for us at all. I’m kind of tired of the Carribean. I don’t mind paying more for Disney because more is included (especially entertainment) but they need to offer better cruise itineraries, and more dates for certain itineraries.

If they are going to continue to do short UK based cruises and attract UK guests for those, they need to bring two ships to Europe. Have one in the Med and have a slightly longer Med season. Bring a ship over for Northern Europe and have several weeks of those short cruises but also offer more longer cruises.

I really wanted a 7 night, but that Norway one is insanely priced and the Northern Europe doesn’t interest me. And I’m English so I won’t be doing a cruise around my own country 😂

I really want them to offer a 7 night France & Spain like other lines do.

Yes. I am a bit baffled about their itinerary choices. These are not itineraries to attract Europeans. And they need Europeans to fill the Dream - and possibly a second ship. They actually marketed the cruises in Germany this year more than in the past. But the prices are so off putting!

For example: Mein Schiff, the RCCL joint venture with TUI, is offering cruises that include all drinks (including alcohol and specialty coffee drinks) and gratuities and I could book a 7-night cruise in the Med going to interesting ports for under 3000$ for 2024. Yes, there is an early booking discount. But that’s what they are up against for the German language cruising market.

Same here. I don't mind paying a little more either. This year's prices with the GT rates are a little more. Next year's prices are triple. I'm not sure why DCL thinks they can get that premium. I don't even think a miraculous change in the economy would inspire bookings. I think they are going to find that out next week.

What itineraries do Europeans like?
For me personally, cities or places I can’t fly/get to easily. So I did a Baltic in 2017 on NCL that included an overnight in St Petersburg, and last year I did the Norwegian Fjords cruise. Those are my only two Europe cruises I’ve done if you don’t include the U.K. staycations which went nowhere.

I’d actually visited several of the ports on the Baltic cruise previously, but the main aim of that cruise was SPB. On that Baltic cruise, I had a great time in Rostock and Warnemunde (the ‘Berlin’ port) and Nynashamn (the ‘Stockholm’ port) and they are both places I never would have visited myself but were great.

I’d never visited any of the spots on the fjords cruise but I’d previously been to Oslo.

I would also prefer they did multiple fjords cruises (and at least one not in school holidays, and therefore reasonably priced!) as it’s one of the most popular itineraries.

I’d also like a 7 night France/Spain cruise, maybe hitting La Rochelle, Bilbao, and a couple of other spots.

Basically I don’t want to see a large city I’ve likely already visited, unless it’s somewhere like SPB where it’s much easier on a cruise vs flying there (obviously I do not mean visiting now.) Going to Rome, Barcelona or Athens hold no interest to me on a cruise.

I would also not object to a Greek island cruise or maybe somewhere like Sicily but not at the price Disney wants for them.

What itineraries do Europeans like?
Croatia, more Greek Islands, Western Spain/Portugal, Canary Islands, long cruises to Norway, Baltic capitals. If you live in Europe and you want to see Rome or Florence, you do a city break there.

With the covid UK staycations in 2021 Disney discovered a new market. Summer 2024 is going to be the test to see how much Europeans who do not want to fly long distance are willing to spend for a Disney fix.

With the flight prices from the UK / Europe it might not make much difference to pay for a Caribbean cruise + long flight or European cruise + short flight / car.

For a 7 night cruise it definitely is cheaper to fly to the US than do a summer cruise in Europe. Even with higher than normal airfare at the moment.

I think that was always the case. The 7 day mediterraen and norwegian cruises were already very expensive.

In 2019 I did a 4 night cruise from Miami, and it was for sure cheaper to fly all the way over there from the Netherlands than a 5 night from Barcelona.

Our Alaska 2024 fell through with Princess so we were looking at the new Disney 2024. The prices were so much higher than 2023 we decided to book the 7-Night British Isles in September. It’s at least 3K cheaper for my family of 3. It’s crazy! The ports are better too!

I guess the Fjords to Europeans is like our Alaska is to Americans. We have done the Iceland/Norway cruise I would consider another Norwegian cruise if it went farther north up into the Arctic Circle. I would also like a stop at Greenland.

Greenland, Iceland, and northern Norway would be ideal for me.

That's a long cruise, though. Disney usually only does a handful of long cruises each year and none longer than two weeks. For comparison, I found a 16-night Iceland & Greenland cruise from another line. That cruise doesn't have any stops in Norway, though, which would add to the cruise duration.

I was interested in possibly trying DCL to Alaska. I know it’s been expensive in the past but was hoping since older DD isn’t coming our family of 4 would be more manageable than 5.
Um, no. It’s pretty much twice as the NCL cruise we booked the same week. Guess we are going with NCL.

The difference will more than pay for our short DCL Wish cruise next year.

Anything after the last week of August (normally) is regular DCL prices. My fjords cruise last year it would definitely not have been cheaper to go to the US.

Anything over the summer though, absolutely cheaper to fly.

The opening day rates for the DCL European 2024 cruises are nearly identical to the opening day rates for similar DCL European 2023 cruises. I do not know whether GT discounted rates were offered so far in advance this year because the cruises weren’t selling well, or because Disney wanted to get cash flow and reduce the number of cancellations by getting more non-refundable advance payments.

I do agree that the itineraries for some 2024 cruises are not as appealing as some 2023 cruises. My husband and I waited to book our 2023 Northern European/Fjord cruise until the 2024 cruises were announced, then decided to go in 2023 when we could visit both Norway and Denmark. I would be thrilled if summer 2025 had two Disney ships in Europe, but I suspect DCL will add another ship visiting Lighthouse Point instead of Europe.

Whatever cruise I book next Summer on whatever cruise line. I'm waiting until after the PIF. My cruise price on Royal dropped like a rock after I paid in full.

The overnight in Hamburg would have been great if they would have done it a little earlier and made it a little longer. I get why they are doing the short cruises. Those were popular during covid, but are they going to be popular now?

Australia was the same. They obviously weren't concerned about attracting Americans although they made this big deal about it at the gold and Platinum party on the 11-night Northern Europe cruise last year. Who is going to fly to Australia for a 5-night cruise with one port stop?

I don't think it was a cash flow problem they are getting plenty of cash from the Wish sailings. I think it was more likely the cruises weren't selling well especially the northern European ones without the Baltic capitals.
