:) Hi all! I'm hoping to book our first DCL cruise for summer 2006!! Have any of you booked yet...I know that's a silly ? for this group! Anyway when I was requesting the quotes one of the questions asked was about having a preference for a higher or lower deck and it stated that this could affect cost. Help! I don't know if i have a preference! Should I? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Opinions, Please! Oh yeah, which is cheaper? Thanks!

We are booked for May '06 already

Pricing is not based on decks, but category of the room. Every category is not on every deck. Deck 1 I dont think has any verandahs, so those rooms will be cheaper.

Some people say that there is less motion the lower you are , so deck 1 has less motion than deck 6. Other than that which deck you choose is really just personal preference.

Get your booking in early, because prices will be going up....

There are many different reasons why people prefer different decks. So you could get several different answers. We prefer Deck 5 because there are fewer rooms and the Kids Clubs and Movie Theater are on the same deck.

Our twins are 11 now, and we love that they can sign themselves out of the Lab and just walk down the hall and around the corner to get back to our room.

To be honest, I would take any place on the ship just to be there! But Deck 5 is our first choice. Here is a link that shows you the layout of Deck 5:

You can see how the Kids areas and theater are right in the middle of this floor.

You can also click to other deck plans from this link.

A lot of people are booking the 8/19/06 Special Western Caribbean cruise for two reasons:

1. The Special cruises go to Castaway Cay twice; Sunday and Friday.

2. As the summer season winds down towards September the price drops (off-peak). For whatever reason in 2006 the price dropped for the Special cruises starting with 08/19/06 cruise.

I saved about a thousand dollars booking early and choosing 08/19. Some other folks changed their reservations entirely and most saved at least as much or more than me.

If you don't have children in school or they don't go back until Labor Day this is the cruise to book over the summer.

Hi

I agree with Jeff, we are also sailing on the 7 day August 19th 2006 cruise, because of the two stops at Castaway. We were originally booked on the 4 day wonder next year, but when the rates came out for this cruise, it was to good to miss. It worked out at only $1000 more than we were paying for the 4 days next August.

I have just checked the rates on the DCL web site and they dont appear to have gone up yet.

So if you can make this cruise, come and join us.

Sue

I booked the 4 day Wonder for next August while I was on board last August. It was to celebrate my DD HS graduation. When I saw the Special Western Caribbean Cruise with 2 stops at Castway Cay I transferred my '05 reservation to '06 so we are booked 8/19/06. I can't wait. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We booked back-to-back cruises while aboard in June. When we got home I faxed Inventory Control our request to move the cruises to the summer of 2006. We're also booked for the 8-19 Special cruise; but we're starting out on 8-12. Looks like a lot of us are going then :)

We're also cruising on the 8/19/2006 cruise. We have a great bunch of DISers over on the Meets board, come on over and join us! :sunny: Here's a link to our thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=653957&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Could someone share their rates for the 19th? I've called about that cruise and also the 26th. Not sure if I got a good rate or not. Did you go thru Disney or travel agent. Any AAA rates?

Call Dana at Cruise Planners, 1-800-385-8233 and get a quote. She is a good person to compare to see if you got a good price quote. I have 2 cruises bookedwith her and I found her the best price.

I am also booked for 2006 - but April. Find out all you can about category - that will be the main determinate to which deck they place you on. I am on Deck 6 in a category 6 - but there are other categories on Deck 6.

Disney's main cruise site gives you a lot of info about decks and staterooms too. Its a good place to start - the go off onto the more "getinintoituptoyourears" sites like DCL Tribute and castawayclub which are loaded with awesome information.
