We are in the process of buying at OKW. Given that 2006 will be our first DVC vacation, we are leaning toward staying at our home resort. Our boys will be 11 and 5 years old and we will not have the use of a rental car. Any suggestions for us? Do we stay close to the restaurant, main swimming pool, etc.? I think the hospitality house, building 13 looks appealing. What about buildings 55, 46 and 45? These 3 buildings seem a little too far from the hospitality house; however, I think they have a great relaxing river view. Our preference is to have some quiet; however, also have the convenience. Thoughts?

You'd probably be better closeer to the main area. The pool with the slide is there, the kids play area is there, the little store is there, you can rent bikes/boats/shuffleboard/volleyball/basketball stuff there. Anything in the Turtle Pond or Southpoint area would be a pretty far walk. The lower numbered buildings...like below 20, or building 63,64,65 are pretty close as far as walking distance.

You mentioned building 13...that would probaly be a good one.

Make your request not by building, but by "close to the HH area". Giving them building numbers can be too specific, and you may get a CM who says "Well, we couldn't get them building 13, so what difference does it make where we put them now. No matter what, they didn't get what they want".

Also, generally the earlier you can check in, the better.

I stayed at OKW for several years with my two boys without a rental car. Really, any of the buildings you mentioned (or others) are fine. Even though the resort is spread out, any bus will take you to the HH. The only downside to that is that the internal bus to get you back to your bldg. is sometimes slow about coming around. For that reason, being in a building within close walking distance to the HH is nice, especially if you are making a quick trip to the general store. Enjoy your first visit! I still remember my boys faces when we entered our OKW 1BR unit for the first time in '94. They were 8 and 13 at the time and were stunned at our new "home".

Which buildings have the best view - lake / wooded with some quiet? If I have a preference, I would like to avoid a golf course view unless it is partial golf course and partial lake. I can't tell by the map which buildings have a lake / garden view and are closest to the Hospitality House. My preference is lake / garden view with some quiet and close to the Hospitality House. I can't tell by the map of OKW the difference between golf course versus lake because it is hard to differentiate between the two. Does anyone know where a good map of OKW is on the internet?

Most buildings close to HH are great. But with young ones coming back late at night from a long evening at parks you want to get to your room as soon as you can.So I have found buildings 25,26,or in that area are best. This is way,its the first stop coming into OKW.And its a short walk to HH pool. Also if you see bus going to parks but you miss it at your stop you can take that short walk to HH and still catch it, because HH is last stop.
